Because you're conveniently reducing your argument to being solely about physical space, and in the real world (the world you and I and all the 7 billion people striving for better lives inhabit), it's not. It's about resources, their limits and their unequal distribution around the world.
It's about the impact of human activity on the very air we all have to breathe (Think Beijing, and how their toxic smog is now affecting parts of Japan), the water we all need, the food that even one year of widespread drought will put in short supply, etc etc etc.
Do you know how much 'space' is required to grow all the food you consume in a year, mine all the metals you use, pump and refine all the petroleum you require? Here's a short article if you want to look at it:

http://blogs.scientificamerican.com...-billion-people-use-up-the-planets-resources/

It's not about how many people can fit evenly spaced in Texas. It's about the carrying capacity of the earth. And about human nature, since we're talking about the real world.

This is what I'm getting at. Multibillion dollar corporations and banks and royalty all collude to artificially create famine. They raise the prices of water like in 1903 causing riots. Then they write books saying how the "experiment was a success"

Unequal, you said so yourself. I said that with better management we could all have a higher quality of life. Instead of incentivising corn and outlawing backyard gerdening, we could be feeding ourselves and eachother better.

And it's a space the size of texas, or maybe a collection of spaces that ammount to the size of texas. and you're absolutely right, it's not about how many people can be crammed into texas. It's about what we decide to do with our time and our resources.

Where again are we disagreeing?

our lifetimes will not experience world over population

but if your going to hedge your existence on conjecture and projection you might want to consider our purpose and if you have a problem with creation don't bring that into consideration its not necessary

if you look at any form of life we have discovered past or present the pinnacle of them all is mankind

if life evolved on earth then mankind formed as a means for life to leave this planet and spread elsewhere making mankind the "flower of life"

we are destined by our genetic design to posses a potential where we are a able to care for life and recreate it in different environments and maintain natural balance not only here but in space

if you were to reverse focus and take a look at earth the mold like growth (modern civilization) that is mankind is shooting out spores (space ships) to "seed" life elsewhere

we recreated rna developing to dna in the laboratory

private industry is racing into space

it wont be long til we send out genetic material like rna into deep space in hopes that it will find potentially fertile planetscapes to evolve on so we have a human population to welcome us when we eventually find a way to travel that far in space in one lifetime

but based on several predictive models we will achieve primitive immortality by 2050 (brain to cyborg body transplants and having your mind including your consciousness mapped verbatim to a computer

if you look at were life stared and where its going our role in the cycle becomes more apparent and were not that far from getting off this rock and i think we still have a billion or so years till the sun blows up so im not sweating the world hitting the shitter

Okay man, Here I am voicing opinions based around freedom and liberty and you're equating me to Karl Marx, a man who spoke for power to the state...

Yes. I can see that you'll just grab anything and go off on some tangent, so I guess I'll bow out here. No need to talk to a wall. It surprises me though, that a forum for the freedom of information is so filled with people who would stifle anyone elses voice. I speak of Love and of caring for Earth, and yet I'm the enemy.

as far as economic devastation by the 1%

if the economy collapses and money loses all value they are no longer the 1% and they know it

they lose the vehicle that gives them all the power and the population to run the civilization they wish to hold power over

Well, this is a forum for the discussion of cannabis first and foremost, and I don't see anybody 'stifling your voice' or calling you 'the enemy'. But I understand a persecution complex is a good defense against differing opinions and new information, so whatever works for you...

Who gets to decide what 'better management' is? You? Me? That was the larger point behind mentioning Mr. Marx, and it's been bitterly contested for all of recorded history.

I agree that we are the pinnacle of life and all the great future could happen..

Still though we have some serious problems and what do you mean in our lifetimes? We do reincarnate and will still be here but in any case over population is a huge problem right now. Maybe you think everything is fine and I hope in the end it all works out ok.

We are more immortal reincarnating than we would be as a Borg.

i disagree about the over population, its no better imo and no morally better than to tell somone to die because they are inconveinient, every one has a right to be here. otherwise its pretty much the same attitude our politicians have toward us.except they go the extra mile to make a buck and throw us in cages and tell the public they are protected, somtimes ,instead of imeadiate death like china.
government changes little throughout the world, kind of made america the last place to run to.no more starting over after this meltdown.

For those who agree with 'controlling' over population....I suggest they grab a shotgun and start with themselves...

But what could possibly go wrong? They say a picture paints a thousand words. None more pointed than this one IMO.

The Great American Dream is quickly turning into the Great American Garage Sale.

If an event is to be survived, the sole hold ups isolated and dependent upon suppies will not trust others, be well disposed to organize and thus be in a state of constant defence. Those who are able to organize creat support systems trade regroup defend advance act in a coordinated maner share in ganes and losses will provide at least as much securety in a truely desperate time. JMHO.

People making educated choices is all. Maybe we will expand into the universe eventually.

Why promote more over populating in countries that are poor and over crowded? To create more emerging markets to sell stuff to. I will be able to sell more beans.

Over population is a big problem but let's just go over a few other emergencies preppers for see and prepare for...

I think about the funniest one is prepping for zombie attack. We just have too many zombie flicks but maybe you will tell me this is the one you think likely.

You need shotguns and first aid supplies for zombies. The truth is most emergencies require about the same things to be prepared. You will need lots of my seeds because if the electricity goes out lots of people gonna have trouble with begging clones in winter.

So for the guy who has loads of gold an economic collapse could be enriching but the problem comes down to defense. Many have been drowned cause they wouldn't let go of their gold. When you store lots of valuables they just become a target and might not keep you safe at all.

So store water and some food and get a shotgun and get some silver but whatever you do don't stay in the cities too long when all this starts. I tend to believe in a seven year Great Tribulation outlined in the bible. According to my calculations it's due because the recreation of the state of Israel in 1948 began the countdown to the end of this age.

It says a man would live to see this sequence from Israel to the tribulation. So many preppers are bible believers. Some believe the buddhists who claim trouble comes under similar circumstances and their sequence of bad events is quite similar to the bibles.

In the bible it says that our leaders are motivated by materialism and greed and deceived by Satan. Could be...

So if you think all will be fine don't prep for catastrophies. Most people don't bother and it does cost money to build a bunker and fences and stuff. Oh well, you can't take it with ya!

In 2008, after the rotting edifice of the finiancial/political system was exposed for all to see I sold my downtown condo and moved 1.5 hours north of the big city and bought 3 acres of waterfront on the lake. Now I just rent an apt close to work and have my main house out there.

If you want to be prepared for a "you can't eat gold" scenario then waterfront property in the country is your best bet. I have a 6 month supply of MRE's and plenty of guns/ammo and seeds.

To protect your savings you should be hedged into some physical silver and gold (I prefer silver for myriad reasons). Large in floor cemented safes to store said fizzy plus a good amount of physical fiat currency. The easiest way to collapse the currency is to have national bank holidays and when they open back up people will get ~10c on the $ or if the currency is completely destroyed then who knows.

The most important thing is to have a community built up of people you can rely on to help protect yourself and property against the people who aren't prepared and are conditioned to having the government take care of them (ie anyone totally invested in the fraud stock market that the government is propping up to keep them asleep and calm while the rug is pulled out from underneath their feet).

Good post. Sometimes zombie attack or alien invasion doesn't seem so far fetched. Just look at some homeless street people with no teeth and you start to wonder. What is a zombie really? Will you turn into one if bitten by a zombie? I doubt that but people who have nothing will be dangerous.

The location out of town and on a lake sounds like you can also fish for food. I like you plan grampa because you probably enjoy your life more. I have always hated cities but I like people everywhere. Most live in cities and it isn't easy to do what you have accomplished. So many struggle just to keep a roof over their heads.

Everyone can have a plan though and I suggest that watching doomsday prepper shows is educational. It teaches the main categories of preparedness for many possible emergencies. Do you have a bug out bag? It is just a pack of stuff to run with. I could see a lot of people taking advantage of peoples fears by selling over priced end of the world foods and such. Capitalism has it's flaws.

One of my biggest worries is electricity. There are a number of things that could decimate our grid and electronics, satellites and such. A solar flare or an emp burst could do great harm, knocking out all the electricity. Have you seen the tv show, Revolution? The power has been off for years and America is a wasteland of rival war lords.

Some people think sea level rise could be rapid due to melting ice sheets in Greenland and The poles. The melting is severe and could flood the ocean with fresh water lowering the salinity and then it's like the movie, Day After Tomorrow.

I watch too many movies and tv too but it keeps me from getting bored.

What wild scenarios have you thought of?

Oh yeah buddy. I live right where the mouth of the river dumps into the lake. Some of the best cat fishing in Texas although it's a fairly uncrowded lake.

I have a honey hole where I run my trot line and will snag 25lb Opelousas cats on the reg with live perch as bait. One weekend we racked up 300lbs of catfish constantly baiting and running the line. All ops (most 10lb or so) and lots of 2-7lb blues. Was wore out lol.

Have a big freezer to store the all the food.

I'm not so much worried about solar flares and rising seas. There are some things beyond our control. If mother nature wants to destroy an area then being prepped for economic calamity is about as good as you are going to get IMO.

I was never a prepper until post 2008. Given our response to that crisis the coming sovereign debt bubble popping will be the most anticipated crisis ever IMO. If people don't see this one coming then they have both eyes closed and are completely tuned into the statist propaganda machine.

that is about 80/90% of the population in the west depending on how wide you accept the propaganda goes, which i would argue is all encompassing..

the worst effect of a really serious solar flare would be an e.m.p ruining non protected electronics and for that i would be more concerned about someone setting off a nuke high up in the sky.. and as for sea's rising that has happened so many times before and man is still here..

after the "zombies" you have to avoid the soldiers and fema concentration camp, somehow i dont think even a community you trust will do the job at preventing that one..
