Poll: 7 in 10 back Florida medical-marijuana plan, enough to possibly affect governor’s race

By Marc Caputo

mcaputo@MiamiHerald.com

As many as seven in 10 Florida voters support a state constitutional amendment legalizing medical marijuana – more than enough to ensure passage and possibly affect the governor’s race — according to a new poll from a group trying to put the measure on the 2104 ballot.
Medical pot’s sky-high approval cuts across party and demographic lines, with Republican support the lowest at a still-strong 56 percent, the poll conducted for People United for Medical Marijuana, or PUFMM, shows.
The outsized support of Democrats and independents brings overall backing of the amendment to 70 percent; with only 24 percent opposed, according to the poll obtained by The Miami Herald.
Regionally, voters from the Miami and Orlando areas, among the most socially liberal in the state, want medical marijuana the most.
Non-Hispanic white women, blacks and Hispanics — all Democratic leaning — are the most-likely to back the measure and could be more likely to turn out to vote in two years if the medical marijuana makes the ballot.

“Supporters of the proposed amendment are less certain to cast ballots in the 2014 governor’s race,” David Beattie, Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson’s pollster, wrote in an analysis of the poll of 600 registered voters taken Jan. 30-Feb. 3 by his firm, Hamilton Campaigns.Continued here:

Fla is so incredibly corrupt, despite this, there is still a mandatory amount of signatures needed to qualify to be on the ballot. I won't say in public like this what I think fla legislators need, I'm already on enough damn lists

The problem is, even if it gets on the ballot for some reason in Fl u need 60% of the vote, not 50%! Also, of those 7 out of 10 people the article mentioned, probably 3 would vote...:wallbash:

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see that happen for all my homies in Fl!

Could have a cool place near the white sands of the gulf of mexico or down the keys for what a typical place costs in riverside ca.

I don't like reading the "no opposition" in the piece. No opposition? They ran right out and terrorized Cathy Jordan and Husband is no opposition?

There's plenty of opposition unfortunately and from those willing to do some pretty low things to another human being, a sick person.

If it happened, it would be awesome for Michigander snowbirds (as I MIGHT plan to become). A place to properly grow the stately sativas out of doors.

Good luck FL brothers and sisters, I hope you prevail.

Rick Scott wants all the aid recipients to be drug tested because his wife owns the testing company so he makes millions on it. I've only been to Florida twice in my life and even I know how screwed up that is. What they did to Cathy Jordan and her husband, just wow.

I'd love to see Scott get his face shoved in it.

all who would move here if the laws changed crack me up.............get ready for a battle with garden bugs like you have never dealt with.

no relief in the tropics.

btw, for any fl resident who truly depends upon Cannabis as a medicine you have the ability to argue a Medical Necessity defense and while it may not help in county court upon a conviction you can appeal to the fl supreme court and they have overturned conviction's for cultivation or possession for several people.

About that NC bill... it aint over til the fat lady sings. The guy who shot it down, his office phone now goes straight to voice mail. If he thought he was getting phone calls before, boy howdy. We're coming back at it in April through a different route.

About the Democrats...

I heard a TV teaser today...(Tampa) Bay News 9 says that the law firm of Morgan & Morgan are supporting legalization of MJ! ! ! ! Their TV ads are on All the Time. Ex-gov Charlie Crist joined the firm... Can't find anything on BN9 website...guess I'll just have to Tune In! Depending on the details beyond the teaser, this could be Big! ! ! !

they should start asking two questions in these polls.

1. if you knew of a prevention method, cure for cancer would you want it to be legal?

2. Cannabis has been proven now in multiple long term studies to prevent and cure cancer, do you think cannabis should be legal?
