seeds from stressed plants

T

Ive read never to use seeds from true hermi plant because it can pass on that trait, but these plants were budding out great until an inconspicious rip in tent caused light to enter during lights out These are ak and ww seeds from female seed co. Seeds should be a-ok right since it was environmental? like s1 seeds?

Grow them out and you will find out for sure! I'm growing some S1 seeds from a Chronic plant a friend had. We both had the same cut and I never had a hermie. I don't know how he got a hermie but it happened.

While I cant really speak to it personally, I dont really see the problem. I mean, when people Colodial Silver a plant to bring out male traits to self-polinate (for fem seeds I believe) its effectively doing the same thing and yet people don't seem to mind using those?

Look at it another way... The Colodial Silver is inducing a stress to the plant, while supressing female hormones, causing it to show male flowers for pollen... how is this different to a light-enduced hermi?

I would be inclined to gather up the seeds no matter what and throw a few in your next run and keep a close eye on them, but I dont see why there should be a problem.. Their DNA hasnt changed, they are still a female plant.. stress just caused them to hermi. (Give a man Oestrogen and he will grow breasts and show female "traits" but that doesnt mean he is now a woman, or that his "clone" would suddenly grow breasts, asuming it wasnt subjected to the same stressor (Oestrogen in this case)

thanks for the quick anwsers , I feel the same way, just wanted to see if anyone has had experiences. Input is a great thing. It seems i have read that people with clone-only plants or just no male plants to gather pollen has stressed female plants to produce seeds. I,m def gonna pop some and see what comes out, there was c99, ww and ak plants involved. Dont know if crosses..ie..pollen was involved or seeds will show representation of original plants. maybe someone could comment on that also.

My impression is that a distinction needs to be made between forced reversals and stress induced inter-sexed traits.
Forced reversals have the range of genes that were present in the mother. If the mother has these inter-sexed traits in her genes, you might find it expressed in the seeds. If she didn’t have any, then you won’t. That being said, many plants likely have, but never show these traits. If pollen from a plant hits itself you are combining two sets of genes that are both from the same source, the likelihood of recessive genes expressing themselves is increased. (I think if you’re looking for some special trait then this great. Why clutter up the combination with more genes, when it’s already a needle in a haystack trying to find the good ones?)
Reversals resulting from minor environmental stresses are always going to have genes for inter-sexed traits. Still, you might find some great plants among these “chicas con bigotes”.

Do you have a fan blowing on your plants? A lot of times there is so little male flowers that the pollen usually only comes in contact with the buds directly surrounding it. But you will never know for sure!

true. and I hope it's the case here.

however, a major breeder here in Oz says that the pollen from a plant that sex-alters (hermies, if you must) is much more potent than a normal male.

many Members won't use sex-altered pollen but I 've 'feminised' (<80% female) a sativa strain this way.

cheers from Oz!

yeah i always have alot of air flow, I pretty much know that the rip was the culprit tho, Only being in room after lights on and didnt catch rip until I noticed the bud growth stopped and seeds forming...started checking things out and found the rip. Tent was in room that had overhead light on often. Buds were doing great until that time, stacking up very nicely. Absolutely my inattention and nothing on breeder. Def a stoner move

Light stress is a tech used ta make Feminized seeds. Think thats what ya have.
Hermi trait will show. Yet. Not till the 2-3rd generation. From what I read.

thanks alien dawg, popped some into water this morning to soak overnight. I'll def keep my eyes peeled for any funny business. What I thought was really interesting was the statement about the flavor and smell. Ive pretty much alway grown fems and have had some really great smelling and tasting buds, if regs are much better I would be blown away. I did also pop 11 csg cheesedogs so I will find out the answer soon enough.

last grow was 2nd run of cheese and chong, chem jones, casey jones with keepers and every single plant was amazing, have no doubt cheesedog will be as well. Hoping to get a good mix of phenos, what was your experience? also hoping for a good showing of ak and white widow as well

wow gmt, some heavy reading and heated debates. You have tom hill and greatful head-two very knowledgeable breeders that I respect and am sure they have their shit together. Just ask the people who grow their genetics. Its still hard for me to imagine how an accident can influence the genetic makeup of future offspring. If these plants had true hermi traits then yeah, for sure, I wouldnt want to take any chances. I feel for the cat that curiosity killed.

Never really had space for keeping a male to breed so never delved into this area. But man I tell ya,this shit is deep. I gotta pop some tho if nothing else to find out whats up . I appreciate your info anytime GMT
