Holla ic!
Not quiet sure where to put this but i think grow room safety covers it
.I've been thinking about getting an Ozone machine to kill any mould/mildew spores in my growspace, an possibly help with smell, although the main reason is to clean the room of any mold spores and protect my plants from ever seeing any spores again.
The only thing is i have no experience with these things and hear they can be dangerous(to your health?) is their any truth to this?
Who's got an Ozonator? and which model do you recomend for a 6ft x 5ft x 12ft space? and what are the pro's and con's etc.
I was planning on running it at night(so i wont be in their when its on)and inbetween crops(as a preventitive)
What say ye Ic growers? Thanks ..

factor out your square footage and decide based on that. most units have their effective coverage in the in the specs.

In my independent research I have heard many claims that it is safe at low levels but really not to great for you in high ppm. You can mitigate any health related concerns by putting it on a timer to stop before your scheduled work times.

The o3 has a half life of 30 minutes or so.

I personally own a small one but I have installed it inline in my ventilation.

Nothing is going to kill spores like a good old washing with something disinfectant...Depending on your setup there could be MAJOR logistics issues but hey you have to do what you have to do.

the big homestores have some good products to help combat mold and mildew for pretty cheap.

best of luck

Talk about good timing. . I have a space close ta yours and Im fighting PM in flower.(Treating with PH+/FF milk/water mix every 3-4 days.

I have a monster ozone bazooka waiting for somethin ta do..
From what I understand its a give and take with ozone.

Ya can kill mold with a high enough PPM yet Ozone at that level hurts plants and your lungs. (Not cool)
I've been playing with the idea of running the ozone during a dark cycle with the exhaust fan off.

I just have this image in my head of opening the tent at lights on and finding shriveled up ladies...lol

Rated for 5000 square foot..lol. 1500 if a heavy smell.. Go large or go home...

Its suggested to treat a empty room at high doses with no living things in the space for a hour after ta kill pest and mold from what I can find...

Hard ta find 1st hand info... Not sure if this info is correct. It is my attempt to grasp ozone 101...

you can buy ozone test strips that will tell you the concentration.

a little searching online will tell you what OSHA calls safe or not.

uvonair i had came with safety test strips, had it in diff locations, mainly above doorways, dead end pockets, smelt like fresh washing powder. never used in grow room , bad for plants and health. if i had another one it would be in outlet ducting. 994s2 uses one ''he will tell you what . its said the use in grow room will take the smell clean outa your plants????

The little "Plug-in" ones will be good for spores or mopping up smells outside the growroom etc.
For odour removal, the best way is to duct the ozone into your extraction ducts. This could be an in duct uvonair model, or a cheap medium output(300-400mg/hr) model (about 30 quid on ebay) which uses length of airpump tubing to get the ozone where you want it. Simply make a hole in your out duct after the fan and shove the tube in.
For ozone to work properly, the air needs enough time to mix with the ozone, building a baffle box can help, but a long duct run will also do the trick.
If the ozone genny is a corona discharge model (not UV bulb type), then it needs to be fed with dry air, moisture + corona discharge = nitric acid which will wear out your unit faster.
Ozone is perfectly safe to use provided you don't use excessive levels of it. If you can smell it(the nose tingling smell you get after thunderstorms), it's too much.

The thing about it taking the smell away from plants themselves if you use it in the room is true, it happened to Heath Robinson. that's why using it in the duct is best.

I just got a uvoair 5000 and I don't use it because the smell of ozone is horrible smells like out side after it rains or like snow

If you can smell it, it's too powerful for your needs.
You can get adjustable ones like the "Hydrozone" which is just a rebranded airmaid 2327 series with adjustable output and a digital timer. If you get it from a cleaning supplies place it will be cheaper than a growshop, and they are more likely to stock the replacement parts.
The reason it smells like after a storm is because that's what the storm smell is, natural ozone.

i have used a very small unit(s) since i started growing. they are the 30mg/hr units (OZONE30) on the following page (replace the hxxp with http)

hxxp://www.amazing1.com/ozone.htm

they do not last forever, only a year or two. the manufacturer told me the problem is humidity (moisture not good for these things, will wear them out).

they do however sale replacement air cells and power supplies for much cheaper. i have replaced several air cells and you must be able to solder, but much cheaper than replacing the whole unit.

these are safe, at least under OSHA standards as i have tested them multiple times. they were inside my air cleaning chamber (in my fishtank cabinet i grew in) (link in sig) which was in a bedroom. no health issues what so ever.

between my carbon scrubber and this little unit, Nirvana's Afghan was the only strain i could ever smell and you have to be right on top of the cabinet to smell it.

i just started growing again and need to fire my OZONE30 up so i am off to order a new air cell now...

$70 for the whole unit, $15 for a new air cell...

small, effective and inexpensive, but they will wear out eventually depending on your humidity.

take care

just dug out my two OZONE30's.

one was working, could have swore it was broke before :dunno: oh well, yeah for me.

the second one wasn't powering up, but something was rattling around inside. i found a resister had come loose. a little soldering and it's working again !!!

a little more information regarding OSHA allowable limits. 8 hour exposure, 5 days a week (workplace) allowable safe levels are 0.10 ppm (parts per million) or 200 µg/m3 (micrograms per cubic meter).

for full time 24 hour exposure safe limits are 0.01-0.03 ppm or 60 µg/m3.

hope this helps.

:tiphat:

btw, i set mine on timer to run 15 mins every hour.

one more thing.

for testing, if you wish to do so, they sell ozone test strips. around $20. just google 'ozone test strips', they're everywhere. 12 strips.

tonight i found the B1-C Ozone Detector Card. only $10 with 5 tests. i'm gonna order one soon, just to check again. google 'B1-C Ozone Detector Card'

here's a clip on how it works.

I use a ceramic plate (corona discharge) Ozone generator rated at 3.5g/hour brought from Ebay for $25 , set on a DIY timer with 20 seconds ON and 4 minutes and 40 seconds Off.

$(KGrHqQOKjIE6T!Usgo,BOr6tc(9)!~~60_12.JPG

Is extremely efficient in controlling odors and does not use much electricity (max 40W but I have limited it to 24W). The exhaust fan pushes the air into a 'buffer' chamber (where the ozone neutralize the odors ) before expelling outside.

I used a 25cm long PVC pipe (10cm diameter) to install the ceramic plate into it and is very easy to attach it inline.
