topping my plants?

u can top as much as you want as long as you keep in mind that the plant will need time to rebound from the stress.spread your topping out over time so u don't over stress the plant. the more you top the longer you will have to veg for. but yes you can top a plant as many times as you want.you can try mixing topping with LSTing to maximize and increase the bushyness and yeild without adding as much time to veg as just topping a bunch of times.

Hey, check out the bonsai mothers thread. There are a few good stickies on this site, one of them is callled (I think) the ultimate pruning/LST thread.

Good luck!

the more tops, the more the resources available to the plant are split between each top, so bear in mind that you're gonna need either more root space or more food or pref both.

Agreed with the others.

Why top when you can tie. Keep that main shoot tied over so that it is no longer the main shoot. The others will stretch up to try to become the dominant cola and the end result is a lot of big ol' baseball bat bud sickles.

No real harm done to the plant.

I have LSTd and supercropped my plants -- do they need more food for the same reason? I've been feeding pretty lightly since they're all sativas. They don't show any deficiencies but they're not really growing all that fast, doesn't seem like. Well, the most sativa one is. They're in coir in 3 gallon pots.

Thanks! :thank you:

well personally I found supercropping to be the least effective method of the 3 and topping the most, but I'm an indica in soil guy myself so you're outside of my comfort zone. Though I's say they'll let you know pretty quickly if they need more of something, just be ready to react. I'm sure someone else will let you know who has the relevant experience for your situation. Sorry.

I tried topping for the first time this run. Currently 12/12+30. It's not a simple case of top once, get two main shoots, top twice - four and on and on, though it can be. In my limited experience, the more Indica dominant the plant the more symmetrical the outcome. Sativa looking plants seem to want to reestablish a single dominant shoot, maybe two at the most. The rest get the: "who the fuck do you think you are " treatment from headquarters.

Absolutely makes the plants easier to deal with indoors under 8 foot ceilings.

Ok thank you everyone iv had loads of great info from you all! I think ill just top once then super crop and prune her untill she is nearly bare so light can reach the pot, anyone do this? I dont understand tho how would you LST when she is big, wouldent that be super cropping? Thankyou everyone!!!

Welsh,

In the sticky that was linked he says to do either topping OR supercropping, not both on the same plant. You can do LST with either one, though. I would definitely check out a good tutorial on defoliating before I did it. I'm still a little nervous about finding that sweet spot between improving it and chopping it to shreds.

I multi top and supercrop on every grow without a problem so doing both is fine :) i top several times in veg to give me plenty of heads then supercrop during the stretch to keep a level canopy
