Here's 2 shops I regularly check out.

http://stores.ebay.com.au/Advanced-Horticulture-Systems-ADHS

I've dealt with this mob a few times and are pretty good, especially if you get multiple items, they'll do a deal on the freight:

http://stores.ebay.com.au/Discount-Hydroponic-Supplies

I'm gonna be a bit of a hypocrite here, but, buy the best you can afford. Simple.
Now I'm about 2 mths away from doing my 1st grow, but i cheaped out on the tent. No biggie there, I'm only doing personal. But, with the money I'll save from not buying, one of the 1st upgrades I'll do is the tent. More than likely a Secret Jardin like this one:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/200703745418?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Weird size, but I only got 90cm max depth in the only place I can have it. And it has a clone chamber on top. But that tent is well over 2X the price i paid.

ANYWAY, look at as many shops on ebay etc as possible. Research, Research, Research. Especially here on ICmag. It costs next to nothing, and will save you bulk $.

LAST THING (PROMISE!!!) When you log in the 1st place to look is on the top right hand side of the page and click the NEW POSTS link. This is the beauty of being in Oz, the time difference to the U.S. & Europe where most of the posts will come from. If you are on the east coast of Oz, click it in the afternoon but not around 5pm (daylight saving time for NSW), as they do maintenance and nothing happens for about 45 mins. So say after 6pm, click the newposts tab, and there will be 400-500 new posts EVERY DAY!!!!

I have no idea how much I have learnt by just clickin that link, going through 10 pages of posts, have 12-15 tabs open, and learn heaps of amazing shit that no book will teach you.

BUT, be careful. You have 30 mins or so to get through the 10 pages then it does some sort of time out and will either wipe the remaining pages or say something like "These pages may have had new posts since your last visit" or something like that, and if you get distracted enough, it'll wipe out all the remaining pages. Happens to me about once a fortnight (Adult ADHD is my excuse, I get sidetracked easily).

So, just power through the 10 pages as quick as you can (see a link, right click, open in new tab, keep going, is my method) then you can take your time learning, researching have a laugh in the Tokers Den and just end up a little smarter for visiting.

Gee it'll take more than 29 mins for me to take in the advice you've given me in this comfortably numb state i'm in OldSkoolKlein :D Nah j/k, thanks very much mate, you've given me some thoughtful things to consider. While i'm watching the cricket i'm contamplating going vertical now with 2 x 600's stacked haha. Darn these sativas- god bless them :D

heres a noob question in your grow tent do you have 2 inline fans one venting out through the scrubber and one just bringing the fresh air in , is it recommended to have 2 central fugal fans or just the one im not sure ? could some one help me out here

aussie it all depends on how big your tent is and how many watts and plants your cramming in there as well, personally I like using passive intakes with a 6" centrifugal fan sucking the air out through the carbon filter, some tents will get sucked in on the sides if your extraction fan is too strong and may need dialing down with a speed controller, putting a fan on your intake may also stop this from happening. You just need to play around wit your setup and customize to suit your growing needs to keep you and the plants happy :)
Any issues mate I'm sure we can help you out bruz :gday:

I thought about getting a tent, however I was worried about ventilation. I found when I was growing in an old wardrobe that the space filled with heat pretty quick.

Do the tents have good ventilation?

Gday mwz, i'm hearing you there mate. I'm in a bit of a bind at the moment. The house where i'm living is in the process of being sold. Had lil room going but had to pull it down yesterday due to building inspection. Was bloody good as far as temps. Was using a 600 and was able to keep temps between 28 and 30-still a bit hot but ok. Mostly brick so kept things sorta coolish, but a permanent fixture. I'm really pissed about having to rip her down, but it is what it is i suppose :) Anyway i had 6 internal house doors doing nothing so i hinged them together to make like a wall perimetre and put ceiling on with a 250mm exhaust. Few screws holding it together so easily pulled down when inspection happens. Because the space is only 80 x 90 i put in a 400 and decided to use it for just veging. Temp was bloody 32 in there last night!! Plenty of gaps but still too hot. Plenty of circulation too. If i can't get the temps rite with a 400 i have no chance till winter with a 600 using a tent. So yer i really don't know what to do atm. Mother nature is on my side so may just finish outside til winter. Dunno

Yeah man, now is the perfect time for putting your plants outside! Other than that, the ventilated lamp holder suggestion above may be worth trying. I always eye them off at my local hydro shop! They are an extra expense though.

Gday ozzie, yep you might be right. Had the 400 vertical with fan directly under, 250mm exhaust with a 300 x passive inlet with a desk fan blowing through it n still no joy. Bring on winter!!!!

hey mwz, yep fa sure mate. Apart from a butcher bird that keep eyeing them off. Threw a rock at it but the bugger came back. Got the dog keepin an eye on things now ;)

just 2c but if there in veg they should like it in the 30s outside here in one of the gardens it hasnt dropped under 30 for months except when the floods came and things are really pumping. as long as you have fresh air coming in somehow they should be fine.if your flowering thats a diff story.

Reckon i'm gonna go vertical! Yes i know. I've been flopping around like a young dick in an old hooker :) Been reading alot in the vert forum and it sounds like the go for me. Figure if i'm gonna get the doughnut happening i'm gonna need about a 2metre x2x2. Sound about right? Even just trying it last couple nights in my makeshift box its already showing me how much easier it is to move around not to mention the 2degrees cooler. Time to be conVERTed heh
My head is just buzzing lol :D
