high, everyone
i am laid up in a post-operative daze, and am trying to accomplish what i can, in a bed.
planning on doing several yards of soil. basing the recipe on one i recieved from CC. which is a base of
2x peat
1x pumice
1x compost/ewc.

added to this is 4 cups per foot of rock dusts and 1 cup each, per foot of crab meal, kelp meal, and neem seed meal.

am i forgetting anything, for the basics?

well, i got stuck when i tried to ask google to convert volume to weight, since ammendments are sold in bags by weight. i couldnt figure how to ask , or the computer couldnt answer.

So i guess I would like someone to help me, find where x amount of thorvin kelp weighs x amount of ounces, and the other ammendments. I have seen it before, some site that had that info for everything, alfalfa, etc...

my next request would be for people to help me in building this water-only organic medium... i am running the same mixture, now. 4 plants under 1200w, new spot (pics and growlogs soon) in 25 gallon plastic pots. very few deficiencies have been noted, and the whole time ive been working on a different place, someone else to water them(not consistant) or post surgery...so any deficiencies could be that.

the plan is to use this basic formula, but instead of rock dust, use glacial rock dust, basalt, powdered azomite. instead of just crab meal, use crab meal, crustacean meal, and organic fish bone meal. instead of neem seed meal, maybe insert some nettles, horse tail ferns, comfrey???

Is this a decent idea? Is there anything else? I plan to order ...what was it, live earth humates, i cant remember, and some mycorhizzae (sp) i think g intradices(??)

thanks for any advice help, and corrections you offer

"Bulk densities" are what you're looking for. That'll let you decide how many 5-lb boxes of crab meal will make 25 cups, etc (just a random example). I think the best way to find these bulk densities would be a quick phone call to the company who boxes/bags them up. Bulk densities will vary by the amendment, and by how finely they are ground.

As far as replacing the neem seed meal with nettles, etc, you'd be missing out on the pest prevention that neem would provide in your soil.

Thanks for the response
I only meant SOME of the neem meal..., just to have a variety as well. We're going to several yards, with each girl getting half a yard of medium, fed with just water from the spring and aact's.
found peat at a decent price, and found pumice for 34 a yard, delivered(<1/4"). ewc is still elusive really close at kind prices,(in volume). so were looking into some local organic compost
thanks for your input

Just found these measurements..each per cup
Alfalfa Meal- 6 oz GreenSand- 14 oz
Blood Meal- 7 oz Kelp Meal- 8 oz
Bone Meal- 10 oz Soybean Meal- 8 oz

not that id use any except kelp, but gives me an idea

And just found that fish bone meal and crab meal are .4# ( 2lb is 5 cups)
this info will bee useful in scaling up, as weights would be easier than volume, i guess.(but it may work)

Any suggestions?
