In 4X4 tent with cage cylinder around 1k no cool tube as of yet. Checking heat issues. Co2 gen 2 burner at 1200 ppms on nice controller and monitor. RDWC DIY with very nice coolers and 2in piping to 1" return thr 1000 gph in line. Tent is 4X4X8. I know temps have to be up for the proper uptake of co2 but how much. Also if cool tube required then id just vent the light heat out with no exhaust and use a seperate fan attached to scrubber for scent issues. But i wanna stay away from cool tube, i want to go bare bulb vert instead. How can i achieve this in this four by four tent. Also bally is digital with 50 75 100% settings. Have two, so would it be better to both at 600 vertically and wut will it take to keep that size tent at proper temps?

Veg horizontal,flower vertical??

Veg horizontal,flower vertical??

hey guys..Im sure this ahs been asked..and has been said to only veg vertical..but what exactly are the harms of vegging horizontally..then flowering vertically..

I plan on vegging seedlings under a t5 for 21 days...transplanting into final pots...then veg them another week under the vertical 400 hps..will this work?

I have a plant that has turned all its leaves towards the hps since it is far from the bulb..so this amde me think..why shouldnt vegging horizontally work?

As far I figure, the plants will all turn their leaves gradually towards the vert bulb...ESPECIALLY if I give them a final week of veg under it..then flower..?

Im thinking two mini stadiums..with 18 plants per 400 hps...9 on each side..3 rows,3 plants per rows...hypotheically speaking it should give me atleast an ounce per plant, with 504g per 400hps..or 1.2 gpw....

Very good thread. :)

Couple of questions;
If I were to build a 10'x 15' x10'tall room with an already existing 12000btu mini split (I know it isn't enough) and hang 8-600's in a diamond pattern with 7 plants how big of an exhaust fan would I need, and intake size hole/fan?

3000cfm for 2x air exchange/minute. You want double the size hole for intake that you have for exhaust. That's double the area of the hole. Area of a circle is radius x's radius x pi(3.14). Area for a 12 inch hole = 6x6x3.14= 113.04. So if your exhaust fan is a 12 inch, your intake should be 113.04"x2. Or 226.08". This would man you would need a17" intake hole for a 12" exhaust hole. I have 4x8" holes for my intakefor my12" vortex. This is only an area of 200.96" total, it is close enough to maintain negative pressure. I couldn't find anything bigger than 8" metal ducting and elbows so I made due. With that fan and a can 125, no oder escapes the room or filter. My room is 9'x11', if I remember correctly. Hope this helps

Yes, this helps. Thanks guys :)

Will that take care of my heat from the 8-600's heat also?
And would using large fans be cheaper than running an ac in the room?

I am going to start the room this spring.

Has anyone tried using the metal vertical grow racks from Taiwan? A friend just returned and said they are very popular there and work really well.

I think maybe vicious bee is asking how you would calculate the size of your vertical garden... like maybe he thinks are rooms are ridiculously big? If not, then you're just trolling... try speaking in plain english, b/c trying to sound smart is really just pissing us off. You're not fooling anyone.

One 1k lamp throws light about 3ft, 600w about 18"... So I try to keep all my plants within 18" of my lamps. They are all receiving equal light that way. The room doesn't just continue to magically expand... nor can it be too small, b/c then you're wasting light. The plants can only metabolize so much w/o other enhancements.
is bobblehead still around?

Hi, after a lot of search and completing a sort of vertical grow myself, I finally got a glimpse at this thread, which is awesome. Should have found it earlier.

Anyway, just to share my grow:

You got to love a vertical and it doesn't have to be crazy numbers. Only vegged for a few days they're just about to stretch now I will insert an empty planter in between each plant so the wall will be 5.7 foot tall and use 2 400w, this is a 1.2m tent if I had a bigger tent I could go full circle.

I've done my share of vert experiments some of which were inspired by this thread. I wish I had pictures to share but I didn't take any.
With one system I used those 5"x5"x8' hollow plastic fence posts filled with coco and perlite positioned around 3 1000w hps bulbs in cool tubes. Top fed with a drip system. It yielded around 3 elbows.
With the other I made 12"x12"x3.5" beds out of plywood lined with plastic. I layered the bottom with about 2" of volcanic rock. Covered that with landscape fabric and filled them with my organic soil mix. It was stacked 2 beds high. There were 4 sets total equaling 8 beds total around 2 1000w hps bare bulbs. I used some of that orange plastic fencing to make a vert scrog along the front of the stacked beds. This was my favorite vert system. It yielded the same as the first one though.
I was growing bubba kush both times.

Getting perpared for 1st Vertical Grow

Getting perpared for 1st Vertical Grow

I am preparing for my late summer/fall grow and looking to go Vert.
I have been growing for a number of yrs in Coco Hempys, horizontal light grow, but this looks like something I would like to try.

48" X 30" X 72" cabinet

400W HPS
Coco in 3 gallon smart pots
Not sure on irrigation, Blumats or drip system.
Nutes GH FloraMicro, FloraBloom, Cal/Mag and Epsom,
Modified H3ad's formula, just reduced rated based on his 6/9 + Epsom, I will reduce that to 4/6 or less plus Cal/Mag and Epsom.
Will need some help from you fine folks on that last thing, since I will be watering 3 to 5 times during veg and 5 or more times during flower shouldn't I reduce the amount of nutes per feeding?

First photo, inside cabinet space, the plant stands/screens will be movable to adjust distance to and from lamp.

This are drawings of the stands, one error side pic should be 42", first drawing is the side, second is the top and third is the front.

I know I will have a ton of questions so I hope someone with experience will be willing to assist. Hell anyone chime in if you have suggestions or questions (especially suggestions, LOL)?

GR :watchplant:
