Fox Farm would never give up a gold mine like OF. People will pay $25 for $0.25 worth of crap.

If you're in OR/WA?

MJR Blend ~ original Black Gold guy making his original Black Gold. Good stuff!
Really kicks ass when mixed 50/50 w/FFOF.

Agree, FFOF has gone downhill some.
IMO, it seems to be seasonal &/or regional sub-contractors being the cause.
Seasonal, because good compost is hard to find in the winter.
Subs, because they cut corners on raw ingredients.
Then there's that storage issue at all stages of distribution ;)

Frankly there's money to be made on the east coast if someone will do basic organics and amendments in a quality that you can get up in Oregon.

agree 100%. I have had root aphids/fungus nats in my Fox Farms soil, but the bag came from a contaminated storage area. I changed my purchase location and have not had them since. I like FF soils.

Same experience, only had bugs once but I believe it came from outside storage near infected products. I have found FFOF is a bit hot for some seedlings, better luck using Happy Frog for seedling starting.

I am using FFOF and I have been pleased with the results so far. One seedling I germinated didnt like how hot the FFOF was so I put it in FF Light Warrior mix and it recovered. I do have fungus gnats though that came with the FFOF(proven by quaranttening the unused portion of a bag of my FFOF in sealed 55 gallon can and placing sticky strips with it).I have the gnats under control, but not eliminated. I will either bake my soil next time to 150*F or switch to something else.Probabaly bake them out. I will say that I found alot of useful information on Mandala Seeds website about soil and additives. The breeders there have articles on all aspects of growing.Im not a spokesperson or a customer for them....just saying. But they have a list of both european and american soils they recommend, several brands from each region not just one recommended line. But, then again Im a total newb lol.Thought Id share.:tiphat:

sirsteely try top-dressing lightly w/ neem seed meal {lightly because the FF is 'hot'} i would not exceed tsp/gallon

fungus gnats arent too big on neem ~i eliminated them entirely w/ no other measures
