noob question

after growing w/ hoods for years, i finally went vert...... i have a few questions.....

has anyone done 12/12 from seed in vert? how did it turn out?

i have about 14 seedlings that need to be flowered..... would u put 14 in 1/2 - 1 gallon donut(14 in one circle)?

or
14 in 1/2 - 1 gallon stadium/donut (7 on the botton, and 7 ontop of upside down 5 gal buckets)...
any ideas? lighting will be 1k....

I'd think half gallon pots would work well with all 14 in a donut. I've used 24 oz pop bottles at 40 around a 400 watt light and also 12 .8 gallon air pots around a 600 and tho crowded it worked fine. That was in coco watered several times daily.

how big are they now?

are they feminized seeds? if not dont bother the 2 tier because half the plants that turn out male u just kill (cull) also right? so if they are unfem perhaps consider just putting 14 around the light untill they show sex and expect at most 9 more likely 7 ish to be females and ultimately that's howmany u will need to have light for....

in theory these seeds should be female. i know for a fact 4 of the plants are (8-12 inches tall, in 2 gals of coco).... the other 11 are true seedlings from seeds from last crop......adding another 5-7 seedlings to make up for any male/hermi plants............... which brings total count to 20-27 not including males/hermis/runts

so have u guys ran 12/12 from seed in vert?
how was yield?

When I used 24 oz pop bottles with about 18 oz media 12/12 from seed using uberkush 4 weeks around a 400 then 6 more weeks around a 600 I yielded an average around 1/2 oz/plant. Using .8 gallon air pots same conditions as above with a week veg but different strains I averaged a bit over 1 1/2 oz each. That was with a new setup...ie not dialed in.

12-12 from seed may not be the most efficient use of that 1000w light.

Consider the geometry of the area of best light from the vertical setup. It will be shaped like a vertical football with flattened ends. The vertical dimension for your light will be approx "x" inches. If your plants are too short, you're wasting light. If they are too tall, parts of the plant are in sub premium light making larf.

Maybe plan veg time to achieve an optimum size plant at harvest. Dial it in for your strain.

another question.


next grow i plan on running 1200-1800w stack flip pods.i have 2 rooms.

rm1:6.6 x 6.5 x 6.9 + 9.5 x 9.5 x 6.9
rm2: 9.5 x 9.5 x 6.9

can i have both pods in rm1?
and should rm2 be the lung room?

as far as height should i go with the 1200 or 1800 w?

My basement fliproom setups were usually 7'6" tall and 3-600`s stacked well and "inside" dimensions with all the racks/shelves covered in reflectix including ceilings were 6' x 6' for 50 watts per sq ft , but rooms were 8 x 8 on the outside.......

That said......those were pre-vegged fully rooted cuts trimmed . pruned , and shaped for the bloom rooms , and you`ll be doin straight 12/12 from seed and the smaller room will accommodate smaller plants as long as yas maintain environment and ambient lights on/off temps kept within 10 degree variables.....now....

As far as runnin flip rooms , they need to be identical in size with 1 12 hrs on and the other 12 hrs off as well as a month or so apart in age strain dependent so 1 room finishes and then the other finishes a month or so behind it for perpetual and more harveys per yr once the ball`s rollin and set in place....so...

the flip room wont be 12/12 from seed. i have cuts for the flip room........

dhf so i should go with 2-600s?

also which rm would u pick? i could possibly join the 2 rooms together.

Whatever it takes for 50 watts per sq ft Bro , and the lung room should be the biggest area to accommodate both fliprooms lights on and off......
