A few things that I've learned about growing in coco with a drip systm DTW

I've always heard you want between 50-80 watts per square foot. If I have 4.5 square feet I'm hitting 55 watts/SF this is also purely for personal and I'd like to run it year round as a hobby, but don't want to run up the electric bill too high.

As Icky explained above with too large a container OR too fast a feed flow , what happens is some of the rootzone will develop compaction and form "dry" pockets that juice `ll never get to and go around with the DTW process.......and.....

Residual salt buildup will form a crust around those dry pockets with time and guaranteed cause imbalances and lockouts at some point in the game.

I agree 100% with not using large pot sizes with coco... BUT there is a easy way around dry pockets... When you xplant hand water until saturation then feed with normal Drip feeding schedule and there will be 0 dry pockets.

I have 9 trees in 5 gallons under 1600w and I can tell you the roots are even growing out of the top of the pots.. No dry spots no lockouts.

quality thread. should i go full coco or add 20% perlite if going with 2g smart pots DTW dripper system thingy?

2 gallon SP's, I'd advise full coco. Once roots fill out, I've noticed plants in 2gSP's suck the pot dry after a day (under a 1k)

But honestly, it depends on your preferred watering method (hand or by drippers) & how much time you have to spend in your garden. :)

You can transplant soil into coco no problem. Did it last week and they are very happy. I use bluelab meters but not their new pen it's crap.

Yeah Bluelab has acknowledged a faulty lot with their pens. Won't calibrate with 4.0. I swore to never buy Hanna again, but their ph pen worked out of the box, so was able to swap.

I have had good success with #2s and pure coco, but have switched to a mix inspired by DHF and others. I use 40% coco, 40% coco cubes, and 20% hydrolite rather than perlite. Perlite breaks down, and I plan on recycling my mix, so the hydrolite made sense. I notice I have to hand water more often in veg, but if you auto feed than its not an issue. I prefer the better drainage to make sure they are getting fresh feeds each time.

Different strains, different stretch, different veg times. Unless you are running the same strains, the answer won't do you any good. Some strains need 2 weeks, vs 8 weeks for the same finished height. The answer to your questions is runs under your belt, as DHF would put it...

Ptone how often are you watering?

3 times a day. My plants typically run off 6 gallons on one 25gallon rez. Rez Lasts 5 Days

Here are some shots of the grow.

First 2 pics are UK Cheese BX

Other is Pre-98 Bubba
