To Much Lighting?

OK Hi you all, I have a question on my first grow is 125 watts per square foot to high with a moving light set up?

Ok here are my stats
Over All Rm Size 15'x'15
Area of plants 12 x 12
I have 9 1000 watt HPS & MH over 6x12

I plan on making my own light mover so I have all 9 lights set up covering 1/2 the garden. The lights will travel 6 feet and cover the other half of the garden and then back.

but at any one given time the garden will have 125 watts per s'foot and the over all garden will have 62.5 watts

Does anyone understand what i am asking?

you dont need that many in that space... 5 1k's is plenty IMO..Ea 1k will do 5x5 area well..

Best advice Neone can give u is don't do this...... Completely redicolous overkill.. Less is more in this line of work..... First grow???? Don't go so big... Try one or 2 lights with ur plan things can go down hill real quick..... U have lots of things to learn still .... One last thing to consider light is only a small part of it and all the light in the world won't help ya produce aaa... U need a dialed in environment ... Tempt humidity airflow are just as important if not more important then light..... Without having these things addressed u will not be happy... Good luck mang remember less is more

lol um 9k over 6ftx12ft u could use 6k.. if anything id try stay around the 80w psf mark

The total area of the garden is 12x12
thats 62.5 watts per square foot.

but is having all 9 lights over 1/2 the garden and then rolling them back and forth to cover the 12 feet, is that to much?

I really dont think a 12x12 grow is all that big? And I have grown before but its been out doors or 4-6 plants in a closet. I have been growing since the mid 90's But now that medical is legal here I want a nice 12x12 garden for myself and a cpl others

I'm just about to run 2 600w lights in an area of 14sq.ft, which is 85w/sq.ft. I am a tad concerned that this is a bit too high? Heat isnt an issue I've got that planned for, but the light is. Can anyone please reassure me?

As for the original poster, I think you'd be better off using 4-5 1000w and have them fixed. Best of luck whatever you decide tho mate.

Go for it dude, as long as you are willing to do your research and put in the work you can do it.

The first thing I would worry about if I was you is heat. I cant run more than 2kw in a room in summer without AC.

85w/sf is fine, especially in a small garden. It might be a smidge more than the plants need but it wont hurt anything. When you start talking about running 125w/sf in a 9k room, then you would be wasting a lot of energy.

Screw the light movers. With 9k in a 300sqft room your going to need to aircool your lights
and have a big AC. I hope you can remote the ballasts.

125K per square foot is too much for almost anything other than some rare landrace static as that take forever to bloom out. I tried heavy-duty lighting in my garden and ended up retarding growth. I found a practical limit of around 65 watts per square foot as being ideal for HID where you are seeking to put down around 45,000 lux on the plant canopy deck.

I vote 5x 1000 watt high pressure sodium hung bare bulb vertical one in each corner & 1 in the center Heath Robinson style vertical trees FTW.But you are going to need some serious air conditioning I vote for a mini split.

light overkill.. will waste money.. and ur not going to yield anywere near a gram per watt lol ull disapoint urself with all that light.. if u want that many bulbs.. do 600s ..

it depends what ur lookin for.. yield is only great when ur pulling it every month .. if ur having to veg for 8 weeks. then flower for 8-10 weeks and getting a huge yield? ur wasting a lot of time.. so unless u have the VEG room to have everything veggin for flower on a schedule.. then id do SOG .. and just have a mother room.. clone room.. and ur flowre room.. pulling a fat harvest every 8-10 weeks. BAM ..

Hey mpd if I may ask, do you know what the lights on canopy temps/humidity was around when you tried very intense lighting? Just trying to learn from others experiences as I'm trying high watts/sqft lighting and I've read some experiences of no gain beyond 60-70w/sqft then others getting a nonlinear but still strong boost at +100w/sqft.

My temperatures approached 100 degrees in the grow room with exhausting. I'm telling you, 100 watts/SF will retard growth. There are a lot of growers here who have had EXCELLENT results with half of what you are proposing.

Save yourself some money and aggravation. ;)
