Distance from 1k hoods

Ok so this has been debated a lot between me and a few others lately. How far should an air cooled lensed 1000w hood(FROM THE LENSE/BASE OF HOOD) really be? 8 inches? 12? 18-24(often said) i think 12 inches has proven the best results. But someone else said they should be 8 inches and he gets way more gs per watt than me. On the other hand, a friend was upset some tops were slightly "bleached white" which he said seemed like burning but they did not have any crispness just very light/white pigmentation under the 1000w lights. I feel the lights make it look even whiter. But they are healthy! What do you think?? Thanks a lot!!

By the way they have been about 10-12 inches away the entire run and they look great. Hoping for a g per watt.

Ive gotten really close. Were talkin a minor distance difference here. Thanks for your awesome opinion though. You seem really nice. Ive gotten 3.5 out of 2k before with a distance of 12 inches with the tops bleaching a bit. If u dont want to help out then youre more than welcome to just not respond.

The best way to determine how close you can get your plants to a light is to use the back of your hand. Hold your hand at the top of your plants for 30 seconds. Did you feel uncomfortable because your hand got too hot? raise your light. Did it feel pleasantly warm? Perfect. usually occurs at about 10-15 inches from a 1000 watter.
