How many Watts can I have?

Hello!

I have started planning a small growroom 2.1x1.5x2.2(height) for 2 plants scrog in soil and I would like to get an idea of how much watts can I put in there?

Room temps: 68.8 to 73.4 (I would not grow in summer)

Ventilation: exaust= Soler&Palau TD-160/100 N SILENT,106CFM(high) or 82CFM(low) It would go Cooltube>fan>filter
2 PC fans for circulation
Intake=passive

Lights: CMH and HPS/MH both in cooltube.

I would like to put the maximum amount of hid that is possible for this small cab of course whidout having temp. issues :)

Hope I gave enough information for an estimate

Thank you very much for your help!

You did ask for a maximum! I would agree that is significant overkill, though. Recommendations for HPS are generally 50-75 watts/square foot. This puts a 150W HPS just outside the low end at 47.5w/sq. ft., and 250w just outside the high end at 79w/sq. ft.. Given the way you worded your questions I would choose a 250w.

One thing to keep in mind though, that cabinet will be very hard to grow in with only 2.2 height. A cooltube takes ~6", ~5" is the minimum safe distance for a 250w HPS, then ~5" taken for small cups/pots. You're looking at around a foot of vertical growth.

If you can't get more height than that, CFLs might be the way to go.

Are your dimensions meters or feet? If they are feet I suggest vertical placement of 200w [actual] CFL bare bulb and rotate your plants often. No scrog. Good luck. -granger

i've stuck a 250w in a cabinet that was 2'wx1'dx2' high and my highest temp was 25*c... I also had it in an aircooled tube with a 4" vortex

also recommend HID for yield over CFL any day

if you drill 3" holes into the bottom of it and set the cups into the holes it reduces your footprint from the containers. This is a good method for sexing and breeding or just having a personal oz or so of your favorite smoke.

Thanks for replies!

The CFL idea is good but I rather stick to HID's.

1x 100w and 1x 150w would be great but it's almost impossible to find 100w bulbs and ballasts so 150w and 70w would be an option too

Since I would really like to go with CMH + MH/HPS and not just the regular MH/HPS but should I get a 150w hps+70w cmh or 150w cmh+70w hps?

Even if I could go with 2x 150w that would be a waste imo as I only have 3.15 sq. ft. of growing space.

Hope to get some opinions on whether the bigger wattage should be cmh or hps/mh.

150w cmh and 70w hps... Or both cmh.

The more blue in the cmh spectrum will keep the plants shorter and a bit leafier, as well as keeping temps a little lower than hps as your main. Not a bad trade off in your situation. ;)

Read alot about 250w cmh (hps retro-white) and I think I might go with that. The lumens are about the same as 150 cmh + 70 mh/hps and I get a full specter.

+
1. Runs cooler than mh/hps (doesn't throw so much heat as hps does). That way I could add some 2700k cfl's that I have laying around for flowering to increase the red specter
2. 1 bulb for whole grow

1.You get a bit leafier buds (cuz of blue). That isn't a problem for me
2. 10-15% less yield. Again not a big problem since it's micro anyway.

Any opinions on that?

Good idea but still... I would have to have it at 250w (if I even could cool the 400w that would give me almost 18000 lm/sq. ft.which would bleach my plants). So it would be pretty useless for me to have that.

Read a post from Hortilux which said:

This is the results from our dimming test. This shows how the spectral quality of the lamps is negatively affected changing what is comming out of your lamp.

As you dim your lamps you reduce the heat inside the arc tube. This reduction in heat does not allow the chemicals inside the arc tube to produce the full spectrum.

You are better off using a lower wattage lamp than dimming your lamps.

understandable ,but most growers upgrade at some point ,.the extra watts may come in handy in the future.

the eye hortilux info is ok ,but there super hps lites do suck even if the label says otherwise .
,
If i had a lite meter I would challange that statement ,I bet my digi set at 400 with a 1000 watt bulb would be the same as a 400 watt ballast with a 400 watt bulb
