I thought I would start a thread to share techniques for sorting seeds. Whether it be a DIY piece of gear or store bought how do you sort through all your seeds?

Sorting copious amounts of seed.

subsequently spent sunday sorting some skunky sour S1 surprises...supposed to be sensimilla...so?

This is the method I have employed so far, what is the strainer for?
to seperate the seed from shake so i can sort and size them.
Ah! I see, I am trying to dream up a way to get rid of the little white hollow ones that are immature, I seema to have a lot of them, I am wondering if I did something wrong with the nutes or maybe didn't let tem go long enough. Hmmm!

I saw a guy on youtube doing it this way, is this the way the seed companies do it? seems labour intesive hee hee.

I have done a few things
I like using strainers to separate the shake from the seeds but to separate the smaller seeds from the strong ones I do the "rub" method.
I put seeds in between my hands and rub and the weak shelled ones will crack n snap and the harder more viable ones will obviously be fine.
I then toss this "mix" back onto my strainer and sift again and am left with my viable seeds and the rest are tossed in my compost.

I hire trimmers to sort the seeds. First I dry the bud and make sure it's bone dry. I take the totally dried seeded branches and put them in turkey bags and label them accordingly.
Then I have a few trimmers break up the buds over a clone tray and sort the seeds from the shake. The ripe mature seeds are then bagged and labeled and put away to be sorted into packs/grown/or given away later.
It's time consuming but with 2 or 3 trimmers working 12 hrs days I've been able to get a lot of seeds sorted and organized.
Some type of badass machine or clever technique would be great but for now we do it all by hand.

I make dry ice hash. then can strain out the powdered weed. need to do more testing but doesn't seem to hurt the germ rate much if at all
a way I found to sort out bunk seeds is I put all the seeds in a cheap plastic container that has a static charge, then roll the seeds back and forth across in it. stems and leaf and hollow seeds will stick to the static plastic and the good seeds will roll down. i dunno works for me, Im prob not explaining it right

Exactly, what a great Idea!!! Static electricity is our friend Just like Nicola Tesla was . Thanks a bunch I will be putting this to the test.

Well I have a few Ideas now I may be able to come up with something once a few things fall off my plate, thanks for the awesome feedback. I really wanted to know how the pros do it. It seems lke there could be something made to help speed this process up.

here is a shitty attempt at my static electricity technique. I have only actually done it a few times. I had already cleaned this bag of seed pretty good before, but thought would try it again for this thread.
I used the white container last time and it was perfect, but I couldn't get a good charge in it today for some reason. the red bowl was working ok though. to get the charge going I rub the bottom of the container in circles on the carpet in a panning for gold type motion. the seeds will start flying around like popcorn with the static. then you can tilt it back and forth few times and good seeds will roll down, the bunk seeds will fly around a bit and stuck to sides, then you can scrape them off
the seed was already pretty clean so effect wasnt so dramatic today, but you can kinda see whats doing. someone else can proabably come up with a better way to do this

Yep tats what I saw in my minds eye, I am sure we can watch youtube and find a way to charge that bowl a bit more, like rub a cat on it or something
