Tomatoes in winter

Here is some Black krim I started on October 4th.All together I think I have around thirty two, started from seed.

This is only the second time growing in the pool.Next year I'm building a box.The first time I grew in the pool it got to hot!So they didn't ripen on the vine, tried to squeeze in a second grow, and it didn't work out,but I had to try.

The three gallon containers work pretty good,I've gotten unreal yields in them.

I live in growing zone 9a and do almost all my tomatoes in 5 gallon buckets. I have had good luck with Black Krim & Black Prince.

Pic above is from a couple of years back. I now have 30+ buckets out on the drive. Everything I grow is from heirloom seed stock. What is your favorite mater? Mine is German Johnson.

That one on the left almost looks topped.

To tell you the truth, since I ate one of these Black Krim, I have pretty much just been growing them.I should end up with quit a bit this year.

I'm going to look at those German Johnson,Thanks!:tiphat:

I flat refuse to pay for store bought tomatoes. They just suck.
I have a catalog coming with a section for heirloom maters. If it looks like it's worth a **** I'll post it here. Most of them ran about $2.50 for 30 seeds. Yep we will be trying some new heirlooms for next fall.

I am popping my seeds right now on my heirloom tomatoes....my greenhouse is complete...and can't wait for use it....and I refuse to eat those things they call tomatoes in the stores now.....but I love growing my own.

What kind ya growin? Had temps down in the twenty's lately and lets just say the one's in the pool didn't like it and I even covered them(looking bad)Good thing I got the three gallon containers going too.We got three to four more days of this Canadian front coming.

I put them in the garage in the evening.Sometimes it gets cold in the desert.

I put mine in the garage when the temp. go below 37*-38*f One of the good things about using 5 gallon buckets. I'm still waiting on those catalogs to get here. I haven't forgot about y'all.

I might switch back to those next year.I've had some real good yields from the three's though. The temps ruined all the plants in the kiddie pool, pulled them all this morning.

This is part of last springs mater crop.

Out front on my drive way this springs crop is just started.

Last falls crop was a flop and I'm hoping that I don't need these extra seedlings.

Mr.Fastcast how was your yield in 3 gallon buckets verses 5?
Still waiting on my catalog but here is the site I think I'll be ordering next years heirloom tomato seeds from. http://www.totallytomato.com/

I had 2 types of black maters Krim and Prince. Krim being the larger of the 2. Both put out a high yield. I have Krim & Prince in buckets again this winter/spring. Never made chunty but tasted it while stationed in the UK.
