how much spacing from light for a 1k watt in vert?

I was going to space them in a square 30 inches from the light. Is this alright?

When using a 1k watt dimmable ballast if I dim to 600 watt can I still use my 1k watt bulb?

I could also do a 3' x 3' square let me know if a 600 watt would be better for this space. I have 7' x 7' to work with but only 56 inch height ceilings and no reflectors.

600w HPS does 3'x3' or 1sq yard or 1 square meter really well, doing 9 plants in 3-4 us gallon pots, keep light above 12" or 300mm above, test with the back of your hand at plant height, feel burning see skin blister raise lites until burning skin stops...lol

600w HPS is better yes better than 1kw light as you get closer better lite spread and is cooler on the plants

use this then...2x 600w HPS is/are far superior than 1 kw lite

You should always use a 1000w bulb with a 1000w ballast, at least on the dimmable ballasts I'm familiar with. You can run it dimmed but it's going to be far less efficient per watt than at full power.

vostock, are you advising in regards to horizontal lighting or vertical lighting? (just trying to avoid confusion for the OP)

I dim my 1000w lights to 600w for summer time, seems to work fine. I think it might be bad for the bulbs or not as efficient as having an actual 600w bulb. I just switched to vert and I'm running 600w as you can fit more plants into the space because you can get the plants closer to the lights and not worry about torching them. More 600w is better than fewer 1000w imo.

I run my plants from 22-24 inches from my 1000 watt bulb. Then they will hang in toward the bulb till I can't get my hand between the bulb and the plant. If they get to close I just tie them farther up the stem till they come back to where I can get my hand in btween the bulb and plant again.
