cleaning up after PM

the last harvest is down and bagged.
i got hit with PM in week 5 of bloom.
hit it with greencure to keep it at bay, and it did but took
everything @50 days.
I just bombed the room with fungaflor, i have to cleanup the reusable plant stakes and pot saucers etc etc.

ive read that bleach will not kill spores.
and greencure(potassium bicarbonate) doesn't either,
read the label and it doesn't really specify if it does or
doesn't kill spores?
looks like potassium bicarbonate is only preventative

The least toxic combination seems to be Potassium Bicarbonate, which, while primarily preventative, has some eradicant capability

BUT the greencure site says this

Mildew Infestation Control: In cases of moderate to severe infestation, such as shown in the picture above, GreenCure® can be used to eradicate powdery mildews by spraying plants completely with a mixture of 2 tablespoons of GreenCure® per gallon of water weekly for 3 weeks followed by the preventative program thereafter. GreenCure® kills mold / mildew spores within seconds of contact by causing an immediate dehydration of the spores and destruction of the cell walls. Many of the deceased spores will slough off or be washed away with the next rain or watering. In most instances, leaves can recover, however as with any wound, scars and discoloration can remain. If you prune infected leaves, stalks or branches, they should be disposed of in the trash, because composting will not kill the mold spores.
someone suggested TSP, a detergent powder used to clean houses before painting.
ok did some checking and TSP will do the trick, its cheap and goes a long ways

i found this stuff andit lloks very good, says it organic and can be used the day of harvest
http://howtogetridofpowderymildew.com/no-powdery-mildew™/

I found more cheap products that kill spores

formula 409 kills *mold* spores,
the active in it is benzalkonium chloride
whether its specific to PM spores...? not sure ??

Ayup. You can also use isopropyl alcohol.

I have a strong feeling Formula 409 has never been tested on powdery mildew. I think when they're discussing 'mold' they're talking about the shit that builds up in your shower and other damp areas in the home.

If you're going to use something like GC to treat a physical area and not a plant, why not go with sodium bicarbonate? MUCH cheaper.

greenmatter

physan20 IS wonderful stuff

where did you read that bleach won't kill spores? i am NOT saying you are wrong, i just have not heard that before. any links?

How does GreenCure® Work? spray greencure on anything you want to

Dr. Horst’s research validated the power of Potassium Bicarbonate as an effective way to kill mold spores and prevent them from taking root. GreenCure® uses several modes of action against mildew the most obvious of which is that it causes spores and tubes to suffer immediate and rapid water loss, thereby effectively killing the fungus. Once destroyed, the residual spore material often sloughs off or washes away.

GreenCure’s® effectiveness can be viewed under an Electron Microscope (pictured on below), where it is possible to see how the mildew spores on the right are completely withered after being treated with GreenCure®. The spore on the left is untreated and remains plump and continues to send out an infectious tube to spread its destruction

kills anything it gets in contact with

but

pm will always return because its systemic...reapplication to infected plants is a must once a week

vaped, the gereencure did wonders for the Pm
when it finally came in....it was almost 2 weeks tho and i was pissed!

and agreed vape,
after reading further GC will kill PM spores
here's before/after pics of PM spores
before_and_after_spores.jpg

but anyways for the others posting
when i talked about clean up
I'm talking about killing spores.
and using something readily available and cheap.
tri-sodium phosphate does a great job.. TSP
used to clean and prewash before painting
its fairly cheap too and very innocuous.

I think TSP is the way to go to clean up a room
cheaply and effectively from what ive found yet

the active in 409 that kills *mold* spores benzalkonium chloride (an ingredient in Formula 409) kills mold spores, now mold spores and
PM spores may be different.
sea maiden, your right what you say about 409 being used on mold.
but I'm only interested in it spore filling ability which so far looks like it will do the job

and for years on painting jobs bleach was used along with things like TSP was used as a prewash.
using bleach isn't effective because the roots of mold are insulated from it by the host and enzymes protecting its roots,
and bleach cannot get into porous things like wood etc etc where the roots are
but again, whether it works on spores or not ive yet to for sure.
common sense says it will.... but :shucks:

I only remember my mom making us wash the walls with TSP. One of the issues with bleach is staying time, another is what damage it may cause to the object being treated; i.e. putting holes in your best pair of jeans trying to get that damn stain out.
