How many here actually stay up til midnight?

S

SeaMaiden

It's been like this for decades. I've just never really felt the need to celebrate the new year, and paired with my tendency to fall asleep long before midnight means it's been a long time since I've been awake to ring in the new year. There have been times I've tried, and the times I've made it I'm yawning so hard if someone hugs and kisses me I can't return the favor.

Besides, if I stay up, then I won't be up in time to watch the original airing of the Rose Parade. I just learned my old horse trainer is going to be riding in the Rose Parade this year, and I really want to see that because it's been a long time since someone I know is going to be in it.

So, it got me to thinking, especially as I get older and stuff like this becomes less and less important to me, how many others are like me and don't stay up til midnight?

I don't. Professionals who lead party throwing activities to draw people who'll identify it with their brand soap aren't impressive once you've seen the low rent hacks who actually peddle it all. (And been one.)

When the same government told you
pot is heroin and that you're so stupid
now they're going to have to take over ALL your medications,
sparklers don't do the whole thing justice.

Dissolving empire as a second hobby makes for the long view, and just because the government employees' union doesn't admit it's the real problem, doesn't mean the war on stupidity's over; so I encourage em: go get drunk and see if that shakes off the sting of being the stupidest thing to come along since Bolshevism.

PS Happy New Year, pot warriors.

Abolitionists: Have a steak, a drink, a line, and a heart attack.

Me and my wife take it as a time to look back on the year on see how life was and how we handled it, what we have learned, how we want to change ect. So to do this we usually get a board game, bottle of champagne, couple joints and just be with each other and bring the new year.

I do notice tho every year it becomes harder and harder to stay up for it. Last year I think I fell asleep at 12:01. I was so tired. This year Ill push for later.

Yeah we stay up. the kids go to the grandparents and we go to some friend's house, listen to some Phish, and smoke some

The day of the week and/or my location in time makes no difference on what I was going to do that day

I haven't woken/slept with any sort of consistency since high school.

I only found out today was NYE yesterday morning and usually don't know the current date offhand.

I've lost the inclination for my life to revolve around time and its subsidiaries

No more huge blowouts, bolivian marching powder or writing a bailbondsman's number on my forearm before leaving the house but after more NYEs than I care to count I still make it a point to be conscious to ring in the new year.

I'll sleep when I'm dead.......

Without anyone to share a midnight kiss with, I could care less.

This year is a totally different story. Ive got an incredible woman who surpasses my wildest dreams 1000 fold. We might be kissing - there will definitely be some intimate contact.

But, I always see the new year in, Im an insomniac.

I chase my sleep schedule around in a circle. I have delayed sleep phase syndrome from staying up till 3-5am every night working in hotel bars and lounges.

Another side effect is I also stopped caring about holidays since I had to work on all of them for 14 hours.

Now that I am off holidays i still dont like them because they force everyone to go on vacation at the same time. Vacation becomes a stressful mess of tourist traps. The ski resorts get flooded with people that cant drive in the snow, all at the same time and it becomes a theme park.

I was gonna stay up and celebrate life, love, and happiness but after reading Cannibis' quote I think I will just run a hot bath, slit my wrists and slide into a nice deep sleep. Talk about a freakin party downer! Bet you dont get invited to many social gatherings! Happy New Years you turkeys!!!

I do stay up, but I don't make a big deal out of it. Earlier this evening (it's 19:40 here) I drank two cups of Monk's, a black tea, and I don't feel sleepy at all. SeaMaiden, I think I know how you feel about staying up late, because I've never been a night owl. Usually, I get very sleepy around 22:30 to 23:00.

what I find funny is that I usually have random sleep schedules and sometimes stay up all night or 3,4,5 am all the time getting work done etc but for some reason I find myself falling asleep before the "ball drops" on new years more and more.

Not sure why but I think it is because new years isn't how it used to be when I was younger and in my party phase lol. Maybe there isn't anything worth staying up for
