butane for BHO, differences?

looking at whats available locally and I see a brand called
bella tavola in 1.5oz cans
12pk for around $23
it says triple filtered

then i found sterno brand butane fuel cartridge
8oz 12pk for about the same price as the bella?
there's a lot more in the sterno cans.

any one have exp. with these brands?
and are they suitable for BHO extractions

i dont have any experience with the said brands youve listed.
but i can tell you i have used sun and burnzomatic brands and between those two i did see a major quality difference in the end product.

the sun brand was definitely a lot cleaner than the other. butane is not cheap so my advice to you would be to research it well and get yourself a quality butane. when said and done, it will pay off.

the sun brand was also triple filtered and ended up being much better. so id go with choice A if no other choices are available. but like i said research it further.

im sure others will chime in with more advice.

I have used nibo x3 12 bottles for 20$ and worked but will get impurities no colibri in your area ?

yeah i figured right off the smaller 1.5 thats 3x filtered is what was needed.
not sure if collibri is here, really just started to look to see what is available.

hi doc, i have a pile of popcorn bud and want to use that for butane
for the trim/leaf i'll use 90% iso
and acetone on the stems, maybe suga leaf.
read a great acetone extraction thread here a few years back posted by ? mr weekend?

I'm just getting into xtractions and there seems to be umpteen ways now adays.
budder, wax, bubble... shatter and on and on.
it'll take me a week to figure out what the differences are lol!
i did make some butane 12 years ago from some pressed mexi
that stuff was fookin radioactive

no i haven't, there's so much now in the way of extracting hash and oils
I really am clueless as where to start.
i wish we had a sticky that listed all the varieties of hash and extracts,
their differences and how they are done.

The butane you are looking for is 5x filtered, some common preferred brands are

Vector
Colibri
Lucienne
Newport

Please do not use inferior butane to make BHO, if in doubt, do the mirror test. Spray a little directly on a mirror, or a piece of glass if necessary, and see what residue is left behind when it evaporates. Ideally you want zero. If you do this with just plain butane of inferior purity such as ronson, benzomatic, sterno etc.. there will be impurities left behind just from the butane itself. Do yourself a favor and search out some quality butane. You will be blown away by the possibilities a stainless turkey baster and a can of vector can provide.

I have made BHO many times and i will tell you something if you dont have a 200+$ electric vacuum pump it ain't worth it, and if you do it do it outdoors not in your house because a single static shock can make you turn into a fire ball, you can spray yourself with a fine mist of water to remove the static from your clothes, wear glasses and gloves like in science class lol

When i talked about solvent less extracts i was talking about Glycerin oil and coconut oil infused in cannabis check it out.

doc, yes and ty for the warning, I am fully aware of the risks and precautions needed when working with something as volatile as butane,
if you put the bowl in your hands, the heat from only your body will cause it boil off.
i did a few BHO runs 12yrs ago when it was new territory(for me anyways)

I may be getting a vac pump to set up my mini split so i'll have that available soon down the road a bit and i'll get more involved with the fine mechanics of extractions

Hate to disagree but HMK has made killer oil for years without a vac, I have never had a vac on any of my oil, and mostly end up with amber shatter. Its your technique or starting material that messed with your final product. Check out the hash forums at TC and you can see tons of good oil from years back made without a vac at all.

Just met a dude yesterday that said he was usung 12x refined newport. I, believing most people lie, decided to look into it and sure enough didnt find 12x butane. I like vector and fasfil of my local choices

Definitely go for Lucienne, to get the best tasting shatter.

Be careful of Vector it has 15% Propane mixed in with the butane which leaves a less clean taste than Lucienne.

If you are having trouble finding quality butane, try to find a local cigar store. Cigar aficionados are very anal about the flame that is used to light their stogies and will only use pure stuff like vector. Oh yeah and forget the vacuum purge it works but is by no means the only way to get quality BHO.

Also docteur, coconut oil and glycerin are both solvents since the thc (the solute) dissolves into them. Just because they are not as volatile as say butane or iso does not mean they are not solvents. Dry sift and water hash are solvent-less hashes as the thc is not dissolved rather the trichomes are separated from the plant material resulting in a higher concentration of thc by volume.

I use the lucienne 4x refined, where i get it , it actually costs less than the best deal on ebay with free shipping lol, just under $50 for 12 cans. It works awesome. My friends say that my oil is the strongest shit they have ever smoked, and i don't have a $200 vac purge, mine is a $20 food saver from walmart, takes time but it works. I opted for the 4x refined because all i use for the process is lower buds, no trim(that's for bubble bags), i like to make the strongest stuff i can. The colors i get are awesome and i only usually run "pure" batches(a single strain). The most i ever got was 7 grams from an ounce of barney's farm lsd(straight fire buds, dankest nugs ever), it looked like pine pitch. Some i made from hawaiian snow was yellow like crack lol. Just my two cents started typing and couldn't stop, i love bho

i have a vac for food staorage and i have large container,
qt sized that have the vac lids,
so this would work then?

and how does vac purge the oil of the small amounts of tane?, does the butane come out as a gas.
would i vac the container and just let it sit, for how long or does the process happen quickly when under vac?
