Hi Everyone & Merry Christmas,

This residue has collected on the bottom of my ashcatcher.

I can't get it out w/iso & salt shaken vigorously.
I'm wondering if anyone else has ever encountered this stuff and knows what it is and how to deal w/it?

best regards

:tiphat:

Try a soak in a degreasing product like Purple Power, or if you're feeling spendy, order some Grunge Off which does the same thing, works about as well but smells better and may be easier to rinse.

Yes, iso and salt will get rid of it.

Edit: I read that wrong, sorry about your trouble and wish I could've been more helpful. Good luck.

Thanks everyone!
CLR sounds very useful indeed. I'm sure it's available locally.

Happy New Year!

Throw it away and buy a new one. I haven't cleaned a pipe in 10 years. Fuck that shit.

that pipe is still dirty. Let it sit in the alcohol over night and add more salt. That will get rid of the gunk.

If you have hard water, or heavy metals stuck to the glass you need to let it soak in vinegar over night and then do the salt iso shake.

I have a jar that I dedicate to cleaning my stems and small glassware with.

what I do is immerse the item in alcohol and let it sit for a day or two, of course this all depends on how dirty the item is.

with that ashcatcher I would let that one sit for about a day or so BUT immersed totally in alcohol, immersed meaning about a 1/2" filled above the top of the ashcatcher. then you can use the salt more effectively

if no container then use a plastic bag preferably a ziplock of some sort/ get some pipe cleaners as well

i like soaking my pieces overnight in rubbing alcohol and salt

I cant even start smoking out of my glass if I clean it with CLR or some degreaser....Just thinking about inhaling some of it makes me gag. Y

try running extremely hot water thru the piece before you let it soak in rubbing alcohol / vinager. it helps a lot.

this is a couple days old. how did the piece turn out?
