Greetings! I feel like I know so many of you already because I have read so many of your posts in this sub-forum. Just finished my first grow (outdoors) a couple of months ago and have been trying to sort out an indoor grow situation. Finally have things cooking in there and will be flipping in a couple (few?) weeks. I will really need some advice on training and defoliating soon and hopeful that some of you will chip in.

My setup is sort of like the WoW grow Marlo posted. I have 6 BOG Sour Bubble and 4 Sam the Skunkman Skunk x Haze, all from seed. I also have young clones of all the plants.

Here's the group shot:

That big plant is a SB that I popped a couple of weeks earlier than everything else. Did lots of super cropping and topping and it's looking good, but the fan leaves are huge. I know Marlo has had to work with this strain in a similar setup and could use some pointers! It's vigorous but getting light into it looks tough.:

So yeah- total novice here that grew from clones last time. I have one strain that will stretch like crazy and one that won't at all. I know I will need to do a lot of training and defoliation, but I have never even sexed a plant before. I feel so... Alone and terrified :p

Just tell me you guys are here and it's gonna be ok.

yo Bandito! my 1st tent run looked like that. I put 2 or 3 bamboos vertically inline in each pot then
zip tied horizontal pieces of bamboo horizontally to those and trained to that grid.

it makes it easy when you have a mix of strains stretching. it also gives you the ability to
move your plants around in flower if you have any issues and need to spray.

that 1st time in the tent I pulled the plants out at each watering and tweaked and trained
and pulled fan leaves. it took alot of time but I didnt mind it then.
Don't be afraid to have plants on the floor also they will get plenty of light.
I discovered that you don't need the fan under the bulb if you have other means of
circulation going on. you can grow another plant where the fan was.

you will be a pro in no time homie.

maybe best to keep quiet about "sexing" with your plants so early in the thread.

Eep thanks Bobblehead. Such a simple tip but I would have never thought to cover up those lights! This forum prevents SO many catastrophes.

Chunky you are hilarious for mentioning pulling out all the plants because that's exactly what I ended up doing last night after posting. I yanked the 2 haze leaning plants because the flower times are so long and I don't have a separate veg tent yet. I also grabbed some sack and took a stab at pruning the big Sour Bubble plant. It feels so wrong at first, but once I got going it became easier. (That's what she said.). More pruning to come but I think this was a good start:

I will pick up some bamboo stakes for the training. I put that plastic netting up for training initially but I want to be able to move the pots around.

Thanks again guys.

Yeah I kept getting hermis at one corner of my room and could not figure out why. I hit me one day, the lights on all my equipment and power stips were doing it. No more hermies now :)

Nice looking grow bro. Good luck!

I was a big fan of sour bubble. Great pot. But the more I got into vertical, the more I knew it wasn't the strain for me. All the best pheno's (for me) were the slow veg'n, short no stretch girls. All no-no's for the way I grow. So I had to move on from the SB. Still have 3 packs in the fridge for later. Some single cola SB's in a stadium or coliseum would probably kick ass. Hard to beat the tatse of that lime kush pheno. The jar smelled like a can of sprite when you opened it.

Running walls like this is fun once you get all the important things figured out. Finding the right strain, and mastering trimming/training will be your biggest obstacles.
That's why i stick with diesels and kushes. They stretch a good amount, have nice node spacing, and take the trimming well.

Should be fun. Taggin for the rest of the show...

Damn Marlo I was afraid you would say that, but thank you so much for chipping in. I knew you had been through it with the SB and was hoping you would drop by. On a side note- I have learned a ton from your grows and enjoy your writing.

Did you ever succeed with any of BOG's gear in your grow style?

Succeeded with BOG gear? Yes and no.
All the sour bubbles were good to great smoke. Very very tasty potent buds.

I also grew BOG's LSD, and that was a big waste of money.... pretty much stopped me from going any further with his stuff. Everything he does has SB in it anyway, and I have plenty of SB.

Most SB plants I've come across have small node spacing and very strong stems. Not ideal for growing walls...as are most indica's. But you will be left with some great smoke tho, and thats always a good thing

Once you are in flower, try not to have much overlap between the plants. That will cause branches to shade each other. Not good for 4oo's

Thanks for the advice. I will flip them before they get much bigger. I am so tickle to have these experienced growers pass on their wisdom.

And Mega- I am a long time lurker and have always rooted for you. My nugs might actually surpass you in cat hair content. I have 4 cats and 2 dogs. Here is my view ATM:

I garden naked just to keep the cat hair out.

But one of the two is obsessed with cannabis, has been since he was a wee kitty climbing up on my shoulder while I worked on my first cabinet grow. And he's fucking smart. Bastard is always sneaking in cuz he wants to check on the status and munch some tastey leaves.

my cats like that too. i suspect becuase he knows hes not allowed in there its like a challenge to get in.

One of my cats eats the leaves too. I kept seeing ripped leaves and was baffled for a long time before I caught her in the act. Had to cat proof the room but the hair just follows me everywhere. Naked would be scary. I can already see the burn scar in the middle of my back. Cats are worth it though.

Merry Xmas everyone. :)

Sometimes you have to admit defeat. I bought a horizontal reflector to finish this run. Aside from having the wrong strain, I just don't have the experience or confidence to pull off a vert grow in this space. Boo! I will circle back to vert for growing trees when I have a bigger space and the right genetics. I will have to wait to join the club but will still be lurking in all of your threads. Good luck!

your Fine bro. Drop those plants to the ground off of the shelves and start defoliating and start to tie them up against your netting in the back ground. You can pull branches from behind to all face the same way or just cut them no matter. Just because you lost the battle does not mean you lost the War. Try it out. I had a 18cu/ft box that I had 4 plants at a time growing in different stages but some dominance and training can go a long way. These plants are very resilient and can grow in the worst of conditions find your nitch and grow with it don't just give up. we are all here to help each other out so start asking questions we will get you on the right path.
