As you can tell from my signature, I'm a Moody Blues fan. Classic Moody Blues not the new incarnation as much. Been listening to them today. Shit, just listening to my favorites is over an hour and a half of music. Good stuff man.

Nice mellow music for a mellow, snowy, day.

Any other Moody Blues fans out there?

Is that your favorite?

It's hard to choose one, but if I had to I'd cheat.

For upbeat: I'm Just a Singer

For mellow: Are You Sitting Comfortably

Tuesday Afternoon....Ride My See Saw...Hell I'd even go for some Driftwood right now.
Bought a double 8 track of their greatest hits in 1978 and discovered them the same month I discovered pot. Used to take a portable stereo on a hill behind our house at night to enjoy what is still a great combination. Discovered Aldous Huxley that month too.

i'll never forget 'departure' and 'ride my see saw"

in a dark basement, black light and incense, we smoked a joint and fired up the Moodys for the first time...

'or to fly to the sun without burning a wing

to lie in the meadow and hear the grass sing

to have all these things in our memories

and to use them... to help us...'

Out & In - To Our Children's Children's Children

Gazing past the planets
Looking for total view
I've been laying here for hours
You gotta make the journey out and in

Wonders of a lifetime
Right there before your eyes
Searching with this life of ours
You gotta make the journey out and in
Out and in, out and in

Moody Blues is some of the very best "stoned" music. Their music is really good, but their lyrics are also very thought provoking.

I used to love to stare at the Question of Balance album cover while it played. Heck, all their album covers were great to look at.

Why do we never get an answer
When we're knocking at the door
With a thousand million questions
About hate and death and war?

When we stop and look around us
There is nothing that we need.
In a world of persecution that is burning in its greed.

Every Good Boy Deserves Favour. Hit of windowpane, lying down between the speakers. Procession set the mood, Story in your Eyes got things going. Long time ago.

One reviewer said they sounded like Mantovani on acid. I still don't know who Mantovani is but that phrase stuck with me. It must have stuck with some reviewers too because that phrase got repeated more than once.

Yes in the sense that Montovani merged traditional orchestra instruments and musicians with cascading strings from more modern instruments instead of string quartets.

The Moody Blues first album, Days of Future Passed, recorded with the London Festival Orchestra would be the best example vs. later albums.

There are a bunch of Mantovani songs on YouTube. I really like his stuff, very relaxing, but then I'm a geezer and like to ride elevators for the music.
