Blood Pressure

Well Hell, I am in my mid 40's and I was doing a pain clinic run and for the second time the nurse/technition told me my blood pressure is up. I hate that. All my life I have been blessed with health

So, I have decided to quit smoking and work on my weight. I am about 10 to 12 lbs overweigt at the moment.

So, what are my older brethern doing to (if at all) to work on their blood pressure.

I make my own alcohol (taught to me at age 9) and I like me drink. Truth be known though i only drink about 3 to 4 ounces of alcohol daily

A few tricks can be used. Cannabis does reduce blood pressure, my 73yo mother uses it sparingly for that. She also uses (hot) yoga and relaxation techniques. She's still on one BP med, but she was on five.

Exercise, relaxation techniques, reducing weight (though it doesn't sound as though you're really all that overweight). How high/up is your BP, anyway?

Yep man I know how it goes. Just turned 39 and am in good shape. I started feeling like shit and high BP was the diagnosis. Doc said everything else checks out great. I asked him what I could do about it besides meds and what would be the cause. Told me stress and family history. Not a whole lot I can do about it. So I'm now tethered to a small dose of lisinopril every day. Getting old sucks.

watch the documentary Forks Over Knives, there is something you can do about it, it's not all because of heredity a lot of it is lifestyle and what you put in your body.
I changed my life after watching that movie and it's paying off.
I still smoke huge amounts of ganja daily too.

There are natural herbs and multivitamins that you can take daily to help with it so you never have to touch any of those scary synthetics. My father is 71 and about 60lbs overweight but his blood pressure and cholesterol levels run "normal" and haven't spiked or dropped in almost 12 years now since he began taking certain nutritional products from a company he belongs to that I don't want to state and get in trouble for advertising lol. I will gladly give you the company name and products to check out if you are interested just PM me.

If you are in your mid-40s, you can do a lot to change your blood pressure. 160/110 is high and you need to be VERY careful but you can start lightly walking for exercise. Make sure your doctor approves a light walk @ 2mph - 1 mile - 2 days a week. After a couple weeks, you may find that you enjoy walking/hiking. I was 156/92 @ 90 pulse(rest) 99%o2 - 252lbs. ~~ 9 months later, I am 112/72 @ 60 pulse(rest) 99%o2 - 180lbs. I started hiking, found out I loved it, I was alcoholic, now I cross-country jog/run 15 miles per week on hiking trails. What did it for me was the lack of exercise and improper diet.

Eat less red meat (if you do) and more olive oils - less saturated fat. Limit cigs to 1 pack per week (if you do), 3 drinks a day is not so bad, a healthy liver should handle it.

As a side note, being 12lbs overweight is not the problem. I was 70lbs overweight and VERY unhealthy, I started hiking and by the time I was 40lbs overweight(230lbs) my BP was 118/76. You CAN be big AND healthy, your BP is more important than 40-50lbs overweight. I would rather have a patient who is 50lbs overweight, rather than one who is 40+ too high on their BP.

ps.. Nice to see you back in action, SeaMaiden

Dude! Anything over 140/90 is too high. My numbers have always been high. My pulse has always been over 70 too. I think it has to do with my smaller frame. I'm only at about a buck three fifty in weight right now. I was up to 183 a 7 years ago.

The way it seems to me is that like the smaller animals, like squirrels and shit, always have high metabolism and fast heartbeats. I figure I'm more like that.

The doc put me on 10mg per day of Lisenopril and my BP went back to normal. I tried to get off any meds through diet, excercise, and getting proper rest before. My BP shot up and I stated getting angina too. I went back on the meds and it went back to normal.

Getting older just sucks, I totally get it dude. But don't mess around with it. Hypertension can kill your ass. You might NEED meds.

Initially, right after smoking weed, your BP is supposed to go up some, then it drops down. That's what I've read anyway.

To answer the original question, I found this Yogic breathing seems to work for me. Inhale slowly through your nose for 8-10 sec, then exhale through your mouth slowly for 7-10 sec. Do that for about ten minutes and you start feeling better. In any case, try to minimize your stress.

Thank all of yall for the answers/advice.

Yeah, I need to get out more and exercise. What I need to do is take my butt back to work outside inside of this inside job I have now. I didnt have health issues until I started riding a desk.

Hi,im at 180./110 sometimes and take atenol daily and feel like shit most days,I dont know how to send messages can you please send me details as I'm desperate as my health us bad.thanks.

Be careful, Izzy.. Atenolol is a powerful ACE inhibitor. It is a synthetic version of a viper venom.! It is a VERY useful medication but should be used carefully if a person has asthma, bronchitis, COPD, pneumonia, pulmonary obstruction~ect.

180/110bp should be carefully monitored and evaluated by a medical doctor. All additional 'natural medicines' need to be acknowledged by your medical doctor.

Hibiscus flower tea with a little Lemon grass to taste

I use a three finger gorilla pinch of the dried flowers and a two finger pinch of Lemon grass for 12-14oz of boiling water.

Steep and drink it has a really nice sweet flavor that is twangy.

Blood pressure issues?

Cannabis will definitely help, ingested more so than smoked.

Care to pretty much stop worrying about it? It can be done. Choose your foods according to your blood type and how they come up for you on this list.

Last 10 years I've watched a good number of folks of all blood types have amazingly positive responses to this information. No matter what your issue is... you'll do well to yourself and those around you to look up the info and follow it.

Absolutely amazing.

Stay Safe! :blowbubbles:

Hypertension issues? Without knowing your health history or going to look up info some suggestions to consider would be:

Magnesium & Potassium
B-vitamins specifically B12, B6 & Folic acid. (This is a combo formula a lot of vitamin manufactures make because it is a Homocystine reducer. So the word homocystine is often on the front of the bottle)
CoQ10
Taurine
Arginine
Hawthorn berry, flower, leaf
Olive leaf
Nattokinase
Celery seed - look for % of 3-n-butylphthalide or 3nB
Garlic
Fish oil (fish oil would be the most preferred imo otherwise the options in the following order Cod liver, Salmon, Krill)

hope that helps! let me know if you have any questions.
