don't listen to your buddys bullshit.
when you put the letter f in labeling your crosses it just means "filial- in genetics pertaining to the sequence of generations following the parent generation, each generation being designated an F followed by a subscript number indicating its place in the sequence."
basically it is just a part of labeling/recordkeeping. if i get f6 seeds and make more of that type the next generation of seed will be f7 but in my records it will also be f2 AND inbred.
since you dont know of the work of the previous growers on your afghan you can only assume it is an inbred line. using f in the labeling also tends to be reserved for crosses using un-like or dissimilar parents as in a sativa to an indica.
it is the record keeping part of breeding and means nothing to the outcome of a cross without considering the traits of both parents FIRST.
i'm glad you are the type of person to question everything rather than proceed with bad advice.
thats good stuff that youre preserving those afghan genetics btw!
good luck!

basicly i was told by a grower friend that.. if i was to do this with any strain.. taking a female and a male and pollinating the resulting seed will open the gene pool up and ull end up with shit that the original breeders tried to breed out . basicly undoing all the work of the original breeder.
