Remote Speaker/Intercom system to warn intruders away??? Such a thing?

Scenario:
You have a security camera system set up and somebody still breaks in and you see them but they dont know you see them cos you are at another site watching them on CCTV.

Its 3am and you are far away and dont feel like driving over there nor calling the cops. But ya want to let them know you see them and they are being taped and if they do not leave right now, the marines will be called in.

What kind of system is there that you could, for instance, use your smartphone or PC/Mac to call/login to a system at the site and speak to them thru a remote speaker or intercom system.

I looked around a bit, I cannot find such a thing easily.
Ironic, I have seen systems like this in the movies for years.
Called a couple security companies. They had no idea! What a trip, I would think thats a very common feature.

_______

Part 2: Did a little research and came up w this. Its a solid app in iPhone that enables you to login to many security cameras and it seems with audio.

Other leads included Baby monitors.

The only system I can think of is an old-style intercom system, which wouldn't exactly fit the bill you're looking to fill.

I've seen the commercial for A.D.T. (I think) and their home security system can be run remotely from your cell phone.
Turn lights on and off, view all camera feeds, etc...
All from your phone.
So I'm fairly sure they could hook an intercom into something like that.
Keep looking, the system you want is out there somewhere.

x10 has a ton of home automation accessories to do this as well, usually for 100 bucks or so.

The freeware program I use for my security cameras has a feature for talking as well.

one of the compatible cameras is only 99 bucks and has remote pan-tilt
So you can move the camera around and scream shit through the speakers and hope the rippers get scared

Axis M10 series will do it.

I have a camera that is in the M10 series though and I would recommend a higher up one. The night time quality on it sucks. If you could have an IR illuminator on all the time then maybe it would work better in the dark.

Didn't a member here start a fictional story where he had someone who was supposed to be a young man broke into the growing area and the grower had the place all rigged up with surveillance and speakers operated remotely? And then it turned out that the young guy was a young girl and I don't know what happened after that.

SPEAK!

I know this is a year old thread. But I'm looking to do this. I found another thread on a dif forum. That suggests using a hard phone line with a awnsering machine. In turn I want this Eather ran thru a amp to load speakers. Or just some type of speaker. Any more suggestions ?

This is to be used for my warehouse, to warn would be intruders.

yeah sure. at least 6 ideas.

Make a internet radio station (unpublished) and have a computer on the other end listening to it at all times; then there should only be sound when there's actual audio being broadcast. I'll try setting this up if i get the chance this weekend.

Otherwise:
you could do recording snippets. with remote desktop/radmin/teamviewer/whatever connect to the computer and play a few. (could be done in linux via commandline)

Perhaps you could setup a screenreader app and type text and have it read it back.

^-- this looks like you might be able to remote desktop into a remote computer and use a local device on it - i.e. a local microphone and have it come out the remote speakers. Not something i've tested.. Might look at the android rdp client and see if it includes voice.. (probably not..)

Here's something someone built:
http://www.nch.com.au/oi/

Actually you could setup a special skype account, add your skype as the only contact, only accept calls from that contact, and then accept calls automatically. Effectively its just waiting for you to talk.

^-- there are probably several variations of this one, essentially any chat client that uses voip (voice over internet protocal - read internet phone calls =]) probably has an option to autoaccept calls.

i feel ya on wanting a security feature like this.. so ill tell u what i try to tell myself, (unless the noise is real loud... ) there isnt much you could say that is really going to deter anyone sosphisticated or desperate enough to break down a good door/deadbolt... might scare off kids or junkies..... prob not the junkies tho...
my two cents anyway

yeah but it implies that everything is also being recorded. If done right, it is, and remotely accessible, plus remotely recorded. cams + laptop can be very powerful; easy to hide, hard to find, and easy to keep going for a very long time if the power is cut. Same with the internet. besides, how will you find them otherwise. I agree the remote voice thing isn't that demanding, but its better than nothing. remember these things should be behind firewalls. they are hack targets.
