I need to come up with a design that I can use for flower and veg, maybe even a dry or clone room.
I have a garage that is being used for laundry room/ utility room with a sink and all that shit. Id move the laundry out into a shed if I could, but I cant. So Im gonna put a wall in and lose part of my garage. That leaves me with 18x16x8.5
The garage looks larger than it actually is. Im having a tough time coming up with a design. I can only use one side of the room for intake/exhaust so its really fucking my brain up. The one wall Im willing to use is in my backyard, its 18' long from the end of laundry area to the garage door. The other wall is right in my walkway and the other is the driveway/garage door. Im just gonna wall that off.
Im planning to seal it up for the summer, but might be able to air cool the rest of the year. I already have 4x600 a T5 70pt dehuey and a busted 2 ton mini split and 2 tents (4x4 & 4x8). Im looking for a deal on a Santa Fe because my dehuey keeps the room hot.
If any of you had the chance to build a new shop in my situation what would you do with this space? I want to veg and flower at the same time. Im not against vegging and cloning in my tents but I think it will be hard to get them inside the flower room. I dont really want to buy a larger tent to flower in, but its not out of the question.

Theyre a lot more efficient and dont run as long so theres less wasted heat.
I ran into a buddy who installs them all the time. Hopefully I can get a decent deal. Im also thinking of having him install a real split.
Probably going to run tents in the garage with AC and dehuey.
Going to use my 4 hoods for flower in a 10x10 or 8x8 and my cool tube and t5 for veg in the 4x8. I can clone and dry in my 4x4
Might think about picking up five 8" cool tubes and doing vert after a run or two. Theres a ton of shit that freaks me out about bare bulbs though. Earthquakes are one... Im not so sure how well tents hold up in quakes though

I'd say wall yourself off two rooms. The veg room could be the clone and prep room, or you could make 3 rooms. I'm not exactly sure how big I would want the flower room to be. Big enough for 2 4x8 trays, but exactly how much room do you need around them, I am not sure. I have only worked in tents, and my tents to wall have 1' and then in the front I have about 2.5'. Works fine, and no need to access the rear of the tents really. So I would likely say you want a 10ft deep by 12ft wide room, so you have the trays a foot out from the 12ft wall, narrow side, and then have 1ft all around them and 2ft between them. Put the door in the center of the 12ft wall. This is basically my plan eventually, except I will use 4x4 trays with casters and a double door to give me room to wheel the trays in/out with SCROGs attached... I would do a minisplit in the flower room and duct air back to the veg room, or run a dual head minisplit, ideally.

There was a small quake not too long ago, but I had already taken my plants out of the tent and had everything hanging in my garage. That quake probably wouldnt have done much to a tent though. A big enough quake would probably knock shit down in a regular room anyway.
My only problem with walling off a veg room would be bringing intake/exhaust to the lights in there. I can only use the one wall going out to the backyard for both duct runs. Its gonna be a bitch in a smaller room, but I might be able to pull it off.
Im not a big fan of the dual zone mini splits. If anything I would install two splits. 99% of the time my flower room shouldnt even need AC, but running a veg room during the summer is a PITA!

Yes, done a few. What I like is a main work/veg/clone room off the main entrance/access door and a dedicated flower room off to one side. So basic design is this:
The access door leads to main veg/work area. At the convenient end of your total space throw up wall, which will be for flowering area, the rest is work/veg/clone. (about 60% main /40% flower). Depending on what materials you have, either put a door to flower room or buy two zippers for a poly door. I always put a poly flap on the inside-side of door to room for added light protection. Similarly I do the same on main access door, which should have a nice lock. Best to use an exterior metal/fiberglass insulated for that door (check 2nd hand places).

All my designs have been of this type of footprint. So with your space you might have a main area from which you will enter. For sake of explaining (mirror if needed) you open door and in far left(or right) corner is veg area, with clone shelf close to it. Say this total area comprises 10x18, which includes a veg area in the corner (somewhere around a 5x5) and a shelf off to the side for clones and rest of the first room you enter is for work and storage. The remaining section is the flower room, which'd be about (8x16). That leaves lots of area to work and grow in flower room.

Depending how much you plan to invest in odor control, at a minimum the flower area will have a 8" inline with a carbon filter. Poly the inside of the flower room and you will have enough constant neg pressure to keep all smells from escaping.

Next to maximize wattage, use 1/2" foam board and affix mylar. Hang from ceiling using j hooks at ceiling for ez removable walls (cut small holes at top corner of board, reinforce with duct tape and zip tie to light weight chain). Place these around grow area (i.e., as close to the plants as reasonable).

And if you got a specific question on exhaust ideas for those complicated situations or other questions, let me know, I've been there a few times...

I cant install vents on both sides of the garage because its at the front of my property... Im trying to avoid letting everyone know Im growing herbs in there.
I plant to run intake and exhaust for the lights off the back wall thats connected to my backyard. Or I might even just go bare bulb because Im tired of thinking about duct runs!lol
Ill post a couple pics later tonight when I go back over to the new place. I have no clue how to use a design program so Ill try some basic stuff in paint. I think I have an idea of what Im gonna do, but Ill post here to see if anyone has any better suggestions.

Im planning on using a 6in vortex to exchange air through both rooms so that I can use a 2ton mini split and 1 dehuey to control both rooms.
I plan on hooking a Y to both ends of the fan so that it pulls air from both rooms and shoots air back into both rooms without needing two fans.
The Garage would be about 22x16 without the laundry in there, but theres really no way to easily access the laundry if I build a shed outside for it.
Res will be in the walkway/sound barrier. I might even put my ballasts in there with my sub panel and light control
The dehuey will probably sit right under the AC if I can get it up on a table or something.
My veg room will probably have the 2x400 both along the wall in open reflectors or bare vert. They wont be set up like the diagram above. That was just for representation.

I have 8.5 ft ceilings after the drop down from the laundry room. The concrete is as high as that step around the room along the walls.
Im putting a sink in next to the washer.
Can I use that heater register for exhaust?

So far there are no windows or vents. I like the gable idea, but I think Id still have to make a register over the hole they would be in

You can buy ones that have the register built in. The ones I used had an 8inch coming off the back so I used a template and a jig saw to cut a hole. When your up in the front making your cuts try to be quick. I installed floodlights on a motionsensor right above my vent. Gave me an excuse to be working on the garage and the exhaust fans kick over at night when the lights are on. On the offchance light leaked through or a relative over for the holidays tried to see where the woosh sound was coming from they'd have a hard time looking straight at 2 floodlights. Cost 20 bucks. Gave me an excuse. Ill take it. Lucky you got a interior walkway to the house. Ill be trudging my ass through the snow with 5 gals this winter.

This is my dream room(s)... 16'x16' total footprint at least 6 feet tall preferably more like 7', sheetrock and 2"x4" contstruction

Dual flower rooms on a flip flop, 4 weeks apart... 9'X7' each
Dual bare 1k vert on movers (up and down) per room
Coco PPK Weed donuts tied to freestanding screens ala Ichabod, Arminus, others (MARLO)
Individual scrubbers/fans for each room moving tons of air, at least 2 exchanges per minute.
Individual dehumidifiers for Individual environmental needs

7'X7' control room containing ballasts all electric and scrubber fans/ducting all up high...
Water supply/drain and resevoirs down low, with feed and return lines run through the walls into flower rooms (haven't figured out how exactly yet)
Windows with pandafilm covers (lightproofing) into each flower room so Visual checks (gauges: temps/humidity/lights/etc.) without having to enter the room.

9'X4' (or 3.5') Mothers/clones/Veg
Haven't thought about lighting or feed (probably DTW coco)

9'X5' (or 5.5') "Hallway"/ trimming station with custom built dring racks

Measurements aren't exact as I did not figure in the width of the walls, also I would do this in a basement with a spare bedroom up above as a lung room. Growing isn't for the clostrophobic, when I move to a med state I will build and document the above.
