Funny that Diastatic malt comes up in this thread and is relevant as well. Was just reading about this in Peter Reinharts Bread Bakers Apprentice book last night go figure... This forum and thread in particular amaze me every time I poke around, amazing!

I was reading another thread and the OP suggested (by using your formula) that he will be adding 1/3 cup molasses to a 4 gallon brew. I want clarification because I use less than a tea spoon a gallon. What is your "official" take?

Guilty as charged.... and the actual math works out to about 0.32 of a cup per 4 gallons as I worked it with google.... I love google by the way.

For those that haven't tried.

Disregard the.. "was that so hard" I just think the link is cool... haha

Then after that... google this with the answer.

75.7082357 milliliters to cups

and you get .32 or about 1/3 of a cup.

I hope that I'm not wrong cause I know that MM will chime in soon and either laugh at me the whole way through his post.... or confirm my stoner math is correct.

anyways, google is awesome.

OTIS!!.....MY MAN!!

Dexter, Oregon - 34 years after "Animal House," Otis Day and the Knights are set to return to the stage at the Dexter Lake Club.

The classic comedy, filmed in and around Eugene, features the fictional Otis Day, portrayed by character actor DeWayne Jessie.

The band's performances of "Shout" and "Shama Lama Ding Dong" launched a musical career for the fictious Knights.

Otis Day is set to perform three shows the weekend of December 14 in honor of the first anniversary of the re-opened Dexter Lake Club. The club owner said it will be the first time Otis Day has been back inside the club since "Animal House" was filmed.

For pain management: Straight T.O. or B.O. x NL#5?

Thanks!

CC
I awoke from a dream just now about taking a male BO x NLH and hitting TO. That really nice BO x NLH in the photos...that really nice one....a MALE...but get this...not only does he look good..but he roots in 5 days~ or take that male and do a Bx1 to BO..I'm afraid that might kick some butt...using that BO x NLH male to bump back on BO.....hhmmmmm....

To answer your question TO is the go to for severe pain....BO for common aches...haven't smoked enough BO x NLH yet.

Okay....I'll admit it...PDX draws a wider range of musical style than Seattle these days.

Last decent thing to come out of S-town before heroin started killing 'em was something like this...pretty cool when I was 22 w/a head full of acid...

Finally Made it to the party!

Finally Made it to the party!

Well it took me a few days but I read this thread all the way through. I just wanted to get caught up before commenting...I wish I would have met all you guys when I started growing a few years ago. I have always tried for an organic approach and was starting to reuse my soil when I stumbled upon this thread. :woohoo:

I have been an avid gardener for many years and worked in the nursery business for 5 years before leaving...I am likely to leave my current job soon to focus on what I really care about...cultivation. I came across Permaculture ( i know its just a useless buzzword now but good stuff when properly used) a few years back and have been trying to implement its teachings into outside gardening but never brought it inside for some reason.
Anyway I just wanted to thank you all and drop a few of my own questions here.
If you haven't seen my thread about Millicomposting that I just started in the Organic Soil Forum I could perhaps use some advice.
Also anyone looked into growing your own kelp? Not sure how much wet kelp you need to make, 1lb lets say, of dried kelp meal? Or how efficient it would be, I have fresh water fish tanks but have never kept marine fish. Is there a good water plant that I could grow in fresh water aquariums that is similar (hard to beat I know) in benefits to kelp?
Here's a link; http://www.ehow.com/info_8770105_kelp-growth-tank.html (Not sure how much of an expert the author is but I couldn't seem to find a whole lot on this subject)

Thanks Again Everyone!

What I recommend and usually use myself is 0.50% by volume of water so for one gallon you use 0.005 of a gallon which is kinda difficult to measure so go to http://www.onlineconversion.com/volume.htm and input the
0.005 gal which equals 0.08 of a cup or 18.9 (19) ml in the real world or 0.639 ounces or 3.84 (4) teaspoons or 1.28 tablespoons or 1 tablespoon and 1 teaspoon (roughly) PER gallon

So at 4 gallons x 0.08 of a cup we do indeed get 0.32 of a cup

DING DING DING You win the prize!

Here's the youtube vid I was talking about earlier in this thread, at around 2:30 he mentions some super short nitrogen fixing crop...

Vicia Faba (Fava Bean, Tick Bean, Broad Bean, Horse Bean)

I've grown/grow fava's and while I love to eat them (leaves and beans) and they fix nitrogen, they aren't what I would consider "super short." They generally get at least 2-3ft in my experience.

Heres a link to Plants For a Future's website with a lot more info;

http://pfaf.org/

Great site but make sure if you search for a plant, search with the latin name, too many common names that are different plants or are only used regionally. Also click the "search" button, for some reason enter doesn't work in the search field, lol.

fresh kelp i would cycle through the compost pile

probably an FPE once in a while

Just for ease of use? I am doing some Vermicomposting now and am likely to put my compost through the worm bin. I am pretty sure Gascanastan mentioned worms despise kelp.

Perhaps after a hot run through the compost tumbler it wouldn't be as much of an issue?

I'm interested. Where can I find that? Or order seeds? I'm located in pdx and would gladly travel, reimburse for expenses or trade.
