Gypsy Nirvana Mikado 99

I love Mikado. Grew some f2's of Federation's old stuff very recently but they were producing some plants that were sex confused, male-like looking bells with female stigmas/pistils protruding from them....seemed to be genuinely female but quite confusing and would take a bit of work to clean them up from the tendency, so I guess the beans might end up going stale before I ever get around to fixing the problem. Too many strains on hand...too little time
BB
billy, same experiance with fed's f2's. we didnt get anything that resembled the original we had in the late 90's. we worked with a couple different phenos back then. the best we had for what we needed it for was a sweet rasberry pheno that finished in 7 weeks flat. we would have outdoor done by the end of aug early sept every year. we also had the spg pheno, but didnt do well out for us but a buddy ran her in a few times with great results.i was very sad when we lost the mother for these years ago, but was really happy when i saw fed releasing the f2's. i grabbed a pack and was sad again when i saw the results. hopefully the gn version will give some of the original phenos.

Herbal extasy, i like Mikado too. Its whoop ass above average smoke and tasty too. I havent been able to find it in a while.

But i bought the mikado under the impression it was a 50 days strain but like you, i had plants that took 12 weeks or more - nov 1- to finish.

The cross should be killer
I had other pheno that was done in 9 weeks, but lost it in cloning process. I thought too, that this is fast strain, but how wrong could be about that. Funny part is, planted 2 seeds just for fun and got 2 females which both were fire. Last time I underestimate strains, just because they are not hyped and information cannot be found anywhere.
Danish seedbank still carries F2's, that's where I got them. They also have other Federation lost items in their stall.

Oh, SPG pheno was a real bitch. It yellowed and crisped it leaves, if you even looked it wrong way.

I would love to hear a bit more about phenos, tastes, and smells from fed's original mikado to compare with my mik99... Cause my mik99 is definitely not a fruity c99 or SPG. In fact, I didn't know SPG was used in the makeup of mikado (and what else is in there???)....

Smells on my mik99 are more lemon/pine/skunk with a solvent like taste to it. Wondering if any of you ever experienced something like this??

lou, i was blessed to be able to run dozens of the original beans both in the seeds direct from federation and some f1's my buddy worked. we saw 4 different phenos. 1 spg that like herbal said, was extremly finicky and finished at around 9 wks if i recall (without checking my journals), 2 different lemon phenos, 1 was piney lemon like you mentioned that finished in 8 wks and the other was more sweet lemon with 3 leafs and finished in 7 wks. my favorite was the sweet rasberry pheno. she was our best outdoor strain ever. very mold and bug resistant, short and stocky, and finished in 7 wks full on. we got one variation in the rasberry pheno when my bro worked with them that had pink/purple hairs with that rasberry flavor, but was very low producer and was susceptible to molds. in the reworked version federation released we didnt get anything even close. all piney flavor low producers that like billy mentioned, looked confused.

Wish I could say about smells, I am pretty bad with these. It had some grapefruit in it, but very mixed with ganja odours. It grow patterns reminded me lot of Nirvana special, which should be mexican. Smoke was pretty regular in taste.
Other pheno which lost was spicy and peppery. Much better to smoke for taste, but not so potent as SPG.

Here is pic of SPG pheno:

$30 deals on Mikado 99, I just couldn't resist. At full price they're not something I would normally buy but for that price, how could I say no.

Nice grow Lou. How'd you find the germination on these? I know they are pretty damn old.

too many seeds in the vault...the problems we growers face lol

sucks to hear about the shitty pheno's wish i had know about that. That one female you got sure was a nice one. hopefully this wasnt a waste of money :biglaugh:

I had seen the beans on sale, and then saw your thread. Now I own some of those beans, and hope my grow goes as well.

Nice stuff, LouDog.

:) thanks for sharin' Lou :) been lookin at the mik99 for awhile now...think i'll grab em' :)

i know federations original had a lot of keepers and the raspberry phenotype was the one to look for. i grew a bx line i think may be from the same breeder as the mikado x c99, i grew them as large plants and the yield was horrible, weak sweet spice smell i did not like at all. They were pretty looking and potent but other than that no thanks

Appreciate the grow log, Lou... I grew GN's Mikado99 outdoors in 2011. Here in the Pacific Northwest, the beginning of the outdoor season is damp and the Mikado99 was a real mold magnet. But once the summer took hold, the plants shook off any mold issues and steamrolled through to harvest. They were one of the first varieties to be harvested that year - put out may 15, cut sept 20.

Your bud shots look to be 'cindy' in shape and density, compared to the smaller, very round marble-hard buds I experienced on the Mikado dominant plants in my garden.

BTW, last year I grew some SGK X Bubba outdoors from seeds you made and sent into the server fund. Oh My GREEN Goddess, it turned out simply beyond awesome. Thank you so much for making those. I got a nice sgk male so I made some f2s and plan to grow it out again this year. I took a photo or two, will try to find them and post.

Nice log of the Mikado99 Lou..

I remember growing a cross of Mikado x NL#5 in the back garden a few years ago. This cross might also been Verite's (?) since they came as freebies from Sbay from WAY back..

Here's some early flower pics if yer don't mind
