Mother Gives Baby Marijuana Through Breast Milk

Stumbled across this article, thought it might be worth sharing.

"A mother in New Zealand has been convicted of giving her infant drugs -- through her breast milk.
Prosecutors said the 29-year-old woman, who was not identified, gave marijuana to her baby by breastfeeding, the New Zealand Herald reported.
The woman, who pleaded guilty last week, was sentenced to six months' supervision.
The authorities smoked out the suspect during a police search for drugs. The suspect's partner was also arrested on drug charges.
Acting Senior Sergeant Andrew McDonald told reporters that the woman's actions amounted to child abuse.
"Child abuse is family violence in these circumstances, and it is clear this baby and its mother needed help," he said, according to the BBC. "People often believe drug-related activities are victimless, but it affects the people around them."
New Zealand experts say if the woman had not pleaded guilty, she might have been able to avoid the conviction.
Warren Brookbanks, a professor of law at the University of Auckland, told the Wanganui Chronicle that it would be difficult to prove that the woman had deliberately administered cannabis to her baby through her breast milk.
"It would be necessary for the prosecution to prove that the mother both knew she had cannabis in her system, and that she intended to administer it to the baby.
This is not the first time a child has exposed to marijuana at a very early age. Earlier this year, a three-year-old boy in Murrieta, Ca., slept for three days after accidentally eating his grandmother's pot-laced cookies."

Can't believe the police chief has the ignorance to relate this with "family violence, and child abuse" wtf. Glad some people are waking up, australia looks like you have a long way to go.

Interesting. I don't know which part bothers me the most...the "family violence child abuse" idiocy, or the fact that they probably tricked/coerced this young mother to plead guilty, when she might have walked. Apparently no lawyer..(?)

Thank goodness we are at a tipping point in the US where this type of BS will fade into the past.

Gee... considering cannabis is a less harmful 'drug' than America's front-line drug-kit doctors have for kids, it's sad to see such disruptive b.s. being done to a family. Would love to say it doesn't happen every week in the U.S..

That group of socialists should pick on someone their own size... beating up on a woman and child like that. Shameful!

Stay Safe! :blowbubbles:

i just last week read a health article that mother's milk has natural cannabinoids to stimulate the sucking action and give the newborn the munchies.

Uh, this took place in New Zealand. That is an island nation far off the east coast of Australia.

Not to say that Australia isn't also a backwards country when it comes to cannabis...

thanks, pangea, i usually do a random walk through the intertubes, and never remember where i found stuff, but that was it. Also,

If it were not for these cannabinoids in breast milk, newborn children would not know how to eat, nor would they necessarily have the desire to eat

Studies in Jamaica also show children of mothers who used cannabis, had higher birth weights and were generally bigger n more healthy. ;)

Infact a study was done where mice were seperated in 3 groups..
Group 1 control, group 2 were administered blockers to inhibit hunger. The third group was given the same 't' blocker along with cannabinoids. Group one, of course fed fine, #2 lost weight and I believe some died.. group #3 were just fine and gained weight like group #1.

I found this out when I was preparing for Child services to come after us for the same thing.

Oh and I may add, my boy was born 2 months. A girl had her boy the day before exactly to months early. My son already outweighs her son. 13+ lbs. Compared to 10 lbs. And she left the NICU the day before us. Her son was 5 lbs at birth, ours was 4 lbs even.
Our Pediatrician asked if I feed him Miracle Grow, I said nope... "Nope he's all organic."

I fully believe it was Cannabis.
