Penguin's Cannabutter Recipe

Hi everyone,

So I know this has been covered countless times on here before but I wanted to upload my experiences of making cannabutter myself!

I started off with the following ingredients:

Three pounds of butter

About 100g of fresh trim from my harvest two days ago
7g of vaporised weed
7g of cured buds

I tried to work to a ratio of one ounce of weed to one pound of butter but this is close enough!

Penguin's Cannabutter Recipe (Part II: The Method)

Brought a couple of litres of water to the boil then added the butter and stirred until it melted
I then reduced the heat to low

Threw in the weed

Gave the pot a stir to mix the contents thoroughly
I then let this simmer over the course of three hours, stirring when the mix starts to bubble too much

After three hours when the mix started to get a bit glossy, I strained out the contents into a sieve sitting on top of a tupperware container
(I probably should have used a cheesecloth to strain but didn't have one handy)
I then put this in the fridge overnight

Penguin's Cannabutter Recipe (Part III: The Results)

Penguin's Cannabutter Recipe (Part III: The Results)

The next morning, the now clarified butter has separated with a layer of fat (the stuff I want) sitting on top of another layer of impurities
picture.php

Poured the impurities out from underneath the layer of fat and ended up with about a net half pound of butter!
Because my sieve wasn't fine enough to catch all the plant matter when I strained earlier, I will slice off the darker surfaces with a knife then store until a recipe calls for butter :jump:

Happy growing!

I am sorry I do not have time at the moment to read the details, hope I will soon

but for me I don't use much ordinary butter as it is and cannabutter would be bringing butter into my diet where it doesn't exist now, not a good thing for my high cholesterol and high blood pressure and diabetes. Is there an edible alternative for those like me?

sorry, not intended to be a downer or hijack but I am frustrated with wanting a healthier option to the butter alternative! I only use butter on my corn in the summer and that is a limited thing. anyway, thanks for the recipe anyway as it helps many not in my situation!

Thanks smilley! Glad you liked the thread mate. Feel free to post back your results too.

Hi Red Fang, unfortunately for this method of cannabis preparation, a high fat substance is actually the ideal ingredient for extracting THC. By heating the butter we are trying to infuse the THC chemical from the cannabis leaves into the fat cells of the butter. THC is able to be stored by lipids.

Hash oil or infusing THC with alcohol might be good supplements for you although these may not be healthy either. Making tea from steeping cannabis leaves in hot water is possible but will not be very potent as THC is not a water soluble compound. Good luck!

thanks dude! well I suppose I could use more butter on veggies from the garden. Once a week or every few weeks I have a bacon eggs and toast breakfast as a guilty pleasure to feel a little more normal so maybe I could use cannabis olive oil for the eggs or cannabutter on the toast? I do not use butter on the toast as it is just a touch of honey if anything. I do drink and shouldn't in my condition so maybe that option would work. my mom who also should not have drinked used it in her tea, whiskey I think. Personally I can't stand it but maybe a touch in the tea would do if strong/concentrated enough? Sorry again man, not your problem and don't want to sidetrack your thread from its intended purpose, if not for the damn type2 diabetes, I would have brownies infused with your butter recipe! Anyway, great thread and I am sure others will derive great value from it! peace

im no expert on diabetes, but coconut oil is supposedly VERY healthy fat, and amazing at absorbing THC. I beieve that you dont need much oil to absorb lots of THC if you make it stupidly potent, then just use a small amount of oil added to whatever.

Sounds like a good point there and a great alternative to think about Dave. Coconut oil will be the next thing I Wikipedia that's for sure!

My 2 cent: Use butterfat instead of butter, cause normal butter contains emulgators. You can separate the butterfat cleaner from the cooking water and I find the tast better. And I cook my butter at least eight hours and two times. You still can cook THC out of the stuff also if it's already cooked one time before. Do it again! By cooking your weed three hours you extract only a part of the THC. You will get a second crop. Not as strong as the first one, but it's worth the effort!

And another hint: Dry your weed before very very thoroughly, cumble it down to dust and water this in COLD water for 24 h. Pure it through a cheesecloth before cooking. You will have a better taste. Especially if you cook the leaves and the trim and no buds.
