How to prep GH coco???

Okay I am having a problem when I transplant into GH coco. My plants get mild chlorosis, which goes away after a week or so.

Here how I prep my GH coco:
Take the block and put it into a tub with PH 6 solution with humic acid and CalMagic. EC is about .9, with tap water at .3. After letting the coco hydrate, I add to container and transplant. Then I add 1.4-1.6 EC, 6 PH nute solution (GH Duo at 1:1 fortified w Calmagic and humic acid).

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Yea... I have a suggestion.

Quit giving your coco baths and start giving them showers

In otherwords,..."Flush"!!!!!!

Most GH coco I've come across had an EC of 0.5-0.6 straight out of the bag. what you need to do is flush (NOT SOAK) mild nutes along with some cal-mag. then wring it out really well before actually transplanting into it.

Fwiw... I like canna coco cuz its usally only 0.2 EC outta the bag. so no bullshit flushing.
goodluck!

I second what was said above. You want all that crap coming out of your coco, not bathing in it.
Fuck additives man. Just use your normal nute solution or half strength.
Its always seemed easier to just replace the nutes inside the coco than to try and water them out.
Ive never used GH coco, but Im sure its similar to washing botanicare. I quit using canna because of random shit I found in different bags.

Interesting to hear shit is being found in canna coco now. say Tribal, what kinda coco r u using if ya dont mind me askin?

Oh and again, fwiw, botanicare cocogrow was 0.5 ec straight out of the bag as well.
not sure about their other coco but the cocogrow.
peace

I usually use Botanicare. Ive only tried canna and roots organic.
Ive never paid much attention to the ec out of the bag because I rinse and charge it.
The bricks are a little too much work for me though. I prefer the bagged stuff.
I once had a random sprout grow in a pot I had just put a clone into when using a fresh bag of canna.

I take I should give my new transplants a shower. How much should drain out before I call it good?

No man before you even transplant flush the coco with water (I use plain water) then transplant and water with diluted nutes and work your way up.

For many years now I've used the coco they sell for worm bins, just rinse the ever living piss out of it. Gotta bake it now cause all the creepy crawlies come in it. But it works ;)

Too late for now, already done it. Should I just flush the crap out of em?

Also If i were you, id use plain water then let drain 15 mins elevated then recharge with 1/4-1/2 strength nutes. That way you dont waste nutes.

Seriously? please tell me you are joking and you didn't REALLY just flush your plants using the tap from your shower... Please!!!!

I was basically saying dont just soak your coco by letting it sit in a bin full of nutes like a bath.
But instead, flush pure RO water threw it until the EC/ppm's are low enough knowing the residual salts are practically gone first, then water with a "MILD" nute "MEDIUM" calmag recipe to "CHARGE" it then you should be golden.

I also know of some that just flush everything out then skip the charging all together with great results. its just all a matter of what you're feeding them

I hydrate the blocks overnight then toss the water, rinse untill the runoff is within 100 ppm of my tapwater. i do the same with the used coco after harvest.

then I precharge with veg nutes and let it drain and then dry out.

when I transfer cuts into the coco I go light on the water for a few days or more
while they grow roots.

I also add bene's and EWC, and perlite to my coco.

good luck!

I flushed with 1/2 strength nutes using my normal watering pitcher. And yes, I use tap water for both my methods of growing, which include a hydro setup. I've used tap water in several different hydro styles for years with great results. First grow with coco tho...

Sometimes the GH blocks do need rinsing, but I haven't run across that. What I do is a lot like what Chunkypigs just outlined, get it soaked (warm water works a lot better than cold water) and expanded with a very mild vegetative nutrient solution and sufficient Ca/Mg. This is one instance where I generally like to use a combination Cal-Mag product, otherwise the rest of the grow it's separate Ca and Mg.

When I flush my coir to reuse it, I use the tap water because I just can't bring myself to let that much RO/DI water just flow down the driveway.
