Neem Oil and Lighting Schedule Conflict

Dude

Neem oil should not hurt your plants by spraying it on them, light or dark period. i have seen no ill effects (other than a litttle leaf curling, or spotting) much better than the pests

I am going to do a joint now.

Jeff, Dude, what makes you think oil drys?

oh, it does, in like weeks. I mean set out some of said neem oil on a plate. See how long it takes to disappear.

member to mix at least 1 drop pure castile soap (Dr. Bronner's) in with the neem to emulsify the mixture (if you want any hope at all).

I would only treat the infected plants and put them away from the light.

JL,

I understand. The old rolling down hill theory. if it is bad, they can get worse.

makes sense to me.

light definetly burns recently neem sprayed plants!!!!!!!!

its like a drop of oil in a lot of water. it does dry, you'll know.

so how long should you wait to turn lights back on after you neem? also...should you spray the plants down with plain h2o before you turn the lights back on?

Mix 1/4 tsp neem in a litre (quart for my buddies south of the border) of luke warm water with 3-4 drops of dish soap (not the scented kind). I normally use just the plain old Palmolive green shit. This helps emulsify (break down and spread throughout the water) the oil. Pour it in a spray/mister bottle. Spray undersides of leaves. I usually let drip for maybe 1/2 hour then pop them under fluorescent lights for a couple of hours and then right back under the MH's. Never a problem with burned leaves. I don't think you 'have to' mist with plain water unless maybe if you are battling an infestation and are using a lot of it and risk clogging up the stomata. I regularly give my plants a misting of plain water regardless (one of those up close and personal moments ;)). I use neem as 'preventative maintenance' a couple of times during veg, never in flower though. Wouldn't know a mite or any other pest for that matter, if it jumped up and bit me on the ass.

i use it in flower sometimes and never taste it on buds (although i try not to spray the buds much). i never wash it off
it will brown pistils and maybe leaves if you put wet plants under the lights.
i always spray at lights out - you dont want the stuff to dry too quick either so thats the best way.

But if you are vegging '24 hrs continuous' there is no 'lights out'. Maybe spray more often? Don't want to overdo it.

No.... I tried this method but I burned my sativa while my indica's was fine so I switched to 18/6. No problems since then....

I've always vegged for 24 hrs continuous, like it a lot. As I said previously, all I do is remove plants from room, mist with neem, let them drip for an hour or so (I spread out an old poly tarp on basement floor. I give them a few shakes near the end to get rid of any larger droplets), pop them under florescents for an hour or two until most of the leaves have dried and put them back under the MH. Have used this method for nearly 20 years, never a problem with mites, bugs or burned leaves.

Misting plants light on can cause you massive issues from burning to actual wrinkling of leafs i few years back i sprayed plants and a hr or 2 later lights went on i ended up losing about 6 plants

neem oil is great for all stages of growth but when misting plants i found the best time is about 3 - 5 hrs after lights off allowing plants to cool down as well giving ample time for leafs to dry out before lights on

There is a big difference vegging 24 hrs with CFL's or T'5's and sure you can spray plants down and place plants in a corner of room lights on won;t do nothing , but spray plants and have a 600 or 1000 watts on and watch your poor girl fry right before your eyes even neem oil will seperate from water that is why soap is used as a wetting agent i guess helping everthing to stay uniform but if water droplets form they will be like a magnifing glass on your leafs , Even out door morning dew by the time sun is at peak @ 11 am or so there was ample time for the dew to evaporate

Yup, agree, I tried to make it clear that I let drip for 'an hour or so', put under florescents (T-12's) for a 'couple (edit: I should have said "few") hours' and by the time they are ready to go under the big lights they are pretty much, if not 'completely dry'. I 'never' put them directly back under the big lights.
