Its raining, will my sativa make it?

Hello all,

Well, as the title states I have a sativa that is not even close to being done. The trichs are mostly clear with just a few cloudy. Wonderful smell vary unlike indicas.

It rained last night and the branches are bent over due to the weight of the water. I have shaken the plant to rid it of as much water as possible.

She is looking great and is progressing as anticipated.

There is one drawback as she ony gets direct sun in the morning for a few hours and in the afternoon for 1 1/2 hours (and getting shorter).

The wind is blowing and the buds are dry. There is a spot here and there of PM but quit minor and easily dealt with. I would spray with greenscure but with more showers/rain in the forcast for the next few days I think it a futile act and the rain will retard PM to some degree as I understand it.

So, my spidy senses tell me to harvest while my desire to grow the best sativa I can (which will be a first for a full blown sativa) tells me to wait it out as the 10 day forcast calls for a warmer dry week from late Thursday on.

She could really use the time.

I wonder if she is mold resistant, I acquired the cut from the guys over at the farmers market in Clearlake around the first week of May. The cut is called Vanilla Kush but could have been confused/mislabeled with Buddha Passion (stoner's memory) when I got home.

What else...oh she is starting to show some purples now that is cooler.

Pictures I hope to come.

this is the bird in the hand is worth two in the bush dilemma, yes?

sounds like yr plants are close enuf to keep an eye on so I suggest you do just that. watch for mould and pull when you have to.

Watch her closely, be ready to gently shake water off the buds and have some peroxide or something for mold Tx on hand. If it warms up and they dry off well you should be ok for the most part. At this point I would find a way to make a tunnel, something that allows maximum airflow while keeping the majority of the moisture off, whatever you think you can do that. Airflow is so key, cannot be emphasized strongly enough here, k?

let me see a picture, i got a sativa too... and she will probably go into middle of november, maybe even december... it will be the cold that will be our worst enemy, Sativa's. LOVE Humidity... FYI.

dont forget worm preventative, or you could get a lot destroyed by Bud worms.... they usually kick it in the buds, and shit in there, creating a mold.

After every rain, you can count on Worms in your plants...

Looks.game to pluck anytime. It's easy to spray for bud worms, I found ... But maybe ur lucky. I think if there are no more white, or green hairs, fresh hairs. Then she's done! Those trichs look done too... Sweet sativas. U r gonna fall in love. Enjoy.

I heard from a trusted friend in socal that Kombucha can destroy PM. And prevent it.

Im not saying you dont know what youre doing, I just thought Id throw that out there
I wish you the best of luck. Were in s oregon, and the rains are here hard...luckily we did light dep so it was done
But theres no (edible) mushrooms, yet. Hoping the chantrelles pop up soon

I would recommend taking them sooner than later. If you wait to see noticable problems, then the issues could be far worse than they appear. Basically by now in the PNW our outdoor season is over. The light that we have been getting is way more diminished and won't really help add any more weight and isn't really intense enough to mature it much more.

Pat yourself on the back though because those look like some pretty frosty nugs for PNW outdoor that hasn't been blackboxed.

I always take as late as possible, better to harvest 50% of a great smoke than 95% of hay.

Sativas almost always laugh off rain, but some can get terminal PM, or mould. Where you have caterpillar damage, rot starts, how far it spreads is down to the genetics. Most do not spread at all, my fave outdoor Sativa, Kali Mist does not even really rot any dead buds, they just turn golden brown and stay that way.

This year I saw fat OG Kush buds laugh off 4" of rain [Karma's Biker Kush] and Haze crosses get mouldy alongside.

The best news is that your plants are getting morning sun to get the dew off. If you are worried about loosing the lot, why not take a few branches off every few days, photograph them and mark the stem, Permanent Laundry markers work well] ... that way you can go back and see what flower gave what dried bud. After doing this myself, I always leave them as long as possible.

Milk could be your best friend if PM is the bigger concern for you. I like that idea of the kombucha and am quite intrigued by it.

It's surprising, reading that the trichomes are still mostly clear, because everything else looks like she could be done. I didn't scope my two strong Sativas this year. Everyone had to go when I could get it done, and so off they went.

Well sativa's do much better in the rain then indica .. Just the shape of the bud is designed to let the water flow through it. Where as an indica has very compact type buds and the water tends to pool and stay in the bud..
Sativa's do love their heat so if it's cold I might make sure water doesn't build up on their buds because they are not growing up to their potential without lots of heat. headband 707

Hello all,

Well, she is down, trimmed, dipped and swished and is hanging in my garage at 60*F.

The trichs were 95% cloudy with the rest amber/red. She was starting to get some purple tones and a few buds are nicely purpled. Not that that means a lot to me but others seem to think it a good attribute.

She has a wonderful smell and I was diligent and collected the skizzer hash and the hash from my glove fingers and collected a marble sized hash ball. The hash is wonderful stuff.

Even though I started to lose sun due to shadows in the early part of September I think she will produce about 8 ounces jarred.

There was one small spot of mold found deep within a hugh cola but that was it.

Thanks for all the advice and thoughts.

yeah i took my tops down last night, i will let some of the other nugs a chance to bloom up. but i found only 3 spots on my biggest nugs with mold. Just clip it, and put it in a bag, away from any plants, or drying plants! i still got 2 other plants too, that are sativish.. about ready to come down this week.

Hello all,

Looks great SCF...do keep an eye on the mold issue, while it has not happened to me I am told mold can bloom pretty fast and ruin more of your crop.

Congrats on your sativa, in these parts sativas are rare what with the cash croppers flooding the market indica hybrids.

Congratulations!
Just thought I would chime in here...

The interesting thing about PM is it actually needs a dry surfaces to spread despite the fact it will take off with high humidity from rains and can be spread from water splash.

For more information about this and natural remedies check out "The New Sunset Western Garden Book". It makes a great addition to every gardeners library regardless of crop.

PM isnt the issue with outdoors, its more like white mold inside the bud, from being to wet. Which can effect the drying. Minute i See one molded bud, i usually Harvest. thats why i took the tops off last night. Thanks Minds_I. Dont know if u notice, but in my first picture, u can see 3 plants. on the left is a purpling trainwreck smelling plant, middle is a pure purple plant ,and right is the Huge sativa. all were from seeds.. Happy harvest mang. Make sure to give a report after a NICE CURE. :) laterz.

PM is usually given from people trading clones. especially in very humid locations like San Francisco

I hear what your saying SCF, but I not sure what you mean by "its not the issue with outdoors"... It can be an issue indoor or out.

Ive seen PM cover a non marijuana garden outdoors...

Powdery mildew is caused by several closely related fungi that are fairly host specific. It survives on plants or in plant debris. Your right people often do get it from getting bad cuts which is why I try to only bring in really healthy clones to my veg room.

PM fungus that effects one type of plant is usually not the same that effects a different type of plant. However if weather conditions are favorable IE. high humidity , you will see the disease on a wide range of plants.
