@ moondawg: quote: offthehook, Ive looked over my notebooks and since 2000, ive purchased in excess of 100 packs of seeds and not once over those 12 years have i experienced the conditions you claim exist in the market. End quote.

Lucky you! Though on occasion 'I' & some respected ppl I know of weren't n't that lucky ourselves.

Also did I not make no claim whatsoever concerning the thing you call "the market".

What I do talk of is a good deal of experience MYSELF concerning a good deal of old seeds that I had laying around and been tesing MYSELF on germinating rates. ^^

Hence I found opposing data on what you were to claim by stressing germinaton rates to (quote in B) ALLWAYS HAVE BEEN due to 'growers' trouble shooting.

Nothing to see here, carry on.

@ Mr Sterling, What natural proces(ses) other than a seeds age or storage conditions do you reckon to be responsible for Mr Sam the Skunkman's delayed germination rates?

moondawg, I'm in agreement with most of what you said, except that all cannabis seeds will sprout within that window of time. Ol' Sadhu Sam the Skunkman's seeds seem notorious for taking a LONG TIME to germinate for example. I remember people having his seeds pop their heads up after a couple weeks.

My MDanzig blue streaks took about 1 week to pop

LOL, flmao @ TBH, sorry :D

Brains is good yeh, I agree, grew several of the strains you just mentioned commercially myself. Both in as well as outdoors tho that was +half a decade ago, I reckon his stuff only has got better meanwhile.
The Creep is Dutch, same as me & I know what we are capable of when in a position of doing things 'our way' ^^

Yeh I know, some day, we "Dutchy's" should all be lined up and shot for beeing arrogant & stubborn to the hardcore, lol :D

But hey, one can kill the messenger but never it's legacy wha?

btw 'Love your sig IL ^^ Tho one promise was beeing made... It said whatever happens to you, no worries mate... You can handle it! ;)

I like them coz they are cheap n cheerfull:ying:

Honestly since 2005 I've only been growing EliteGenetics and Motarebel strains

I was lucky enough to receive 30 beans consisting of about 7 diff strains from EliteGenetics at Cannaworld before he got busted and had the site shut down. Since then Ive only been growing his genetics and the seeds he gave me bred by Motarebel. Two of the best top notch genetic breeders ive found so I decided to only use them. Crossed a few herijuana x purple butters with his molokai frosts and some other eilte strains but ya no Commercial breeders can even touch these from my experience.

Here is one of the plants that results from crossing their strains(Call it Purple Snowflake) Flowered under only 540w of led in 36sqfoot space so not even much light at all. I can't wait to see these with an added Gavita DE
picture.php

I don't mind spending a few dollars to try out new beans. Good or bad, if they made it that far, I'll pay them for their work if it's looking interesting to myself.

We all have opinions and different setups, needs, whatever. Also different smoking experience and palettes.

I purchased Connoisseurs GDP fem beans when I was looking for purple+grape. Felt it was a great buy and it was reaffirmed. Now that I have Ken's cut itself, I've let the CSG go. Still would've felt the same way and bought it again considering my own situation at the time.

It's like the non-med guys who say their og hybrid rocks it like the clone-onlies and great breeder, etc. It's subjective.

That said, it amazes me some of the absolute garbage still patronized in 2012!

New growers, do not make price your highest priority in bean purchases. Ya you need practice, but save for a better buy and practice on your freebie beans. Lots of good experiences online will bias your views. I've never gone back to outright badmouth beans that were not suitable or garbage... why have the experience/breeder waste anymore of your time? You gave them something of value in exchange for them offering you value, but if they squandered that, why continue? Be fair but understand it's still a numbers game for the real keepers.

Some make results-oriented choices and others ethics-based... In the end, nobody cares except you... Know your why and tailor on...

#1 neville shoenmaker for his neville's Hase and G13 commando action
#2 Shantibaba for white widow and Mango, SSH
#3 Sam for Skunk and Haze

Actually, Neville was the original breeder of Super Silver Haze... not Shantibaba.

#3 I'm not going to comment on, for obvious reasons. When in Rome... ;)

OK,there has been alot of bashing here. Rate the breeder is laughable. Some of ya are rating beans as bad because their freebie they got from the T*#e did not perform well.ONE FUCKING SEED!!!! Give me a break!!! I am stoned while typing so forgive me. BUT, I will tell ya this. Don't come in here and bash a breeder because ya only ran a couple beans or 1 for that matter.Run a pack of 10 or run 20 seeds then let us know whats up.

if you don't call selecting a male and a female to let hook up in the closet then I'm not sure what you think "breeding" is. When I take my dog and have him hump a female he is in fact "breeding" with her.

The thing you seem to be looking for is someone who goes beyond breeding and gets into multi trials and selective inbreeding.

these fine folks aren't claiming to have created they are claiming that they let some plants have dirty dirty sex

Gotta give props to Bannana Man, Mandala & CBG. Grew Shambhala Kush, Hubble Bubble & Peyote Purple respectively and they all grew as described by the breeders and outperformed my expectations. Waiting on them to cure and the future looks dank.............Thanks to great, honest breeders.

Some of these ratings are always gonna be biased one way or another ..
And I say that bc people REALLY don't take into account how DIFFICULT it is to grow some plants ..some plants need a whole regime of nutes at the right time to perform to its full potential ..while others are water and go ..IMO ..some people are gonna say they've been growing forever it can't be me ..and that's not a fair assumption to make until u REALLY got the plants to fully express them Selves ..but don't get me wrong u have a lot of turds being sold in pretty packages these days ...

I see people getting all worked up over "breeders" makes me laugh ..lol

Instead of rate the breeders it should be rate the GROWER/S (yes rate urself) before u bash some one making or selling seeds on a global level ..like I said before you always gonna have turds in pretty packages but knowledge and research conquers that

Breeding is not making seeds. Breeding is the selection work and testing that involves making high quality seeds.
But they call themselves breeders, give the seeds a fancy new name and sell it for 10$+ a pop?
To me, that's the uttermost opportunistic behaviour mankind can express. Using artificial hypes to make a shitload of money while putting no real work in it at all. Shame on dem, bunch of wall street capitalists!

Despite my better judgement i’m going to reply to this thread.

Only for the reason that a new grower may pick up on what i’m saying and learn a thing or two to help them make better choices. Just like everyone else i too were once a fish and had no idea what i was talking about. If someone had told me 20 years ago what i’m about to tell you kids then 80% of the strains that have been through my garden wouldn't have even been looked at twice let alone purchased and grown out.

First we have to define what a breeder is. Wikipedia pretty much nails the definition.

“A breeder is a person who practices the vocation of mating carefully selected specimens of the same breed to reproduce specific, consistently replicable qualities and characteristics.”

If we take this definition of a breeder and look through this thread then automatically we have to take out 90% of those mentioned. Taking an elite clones or highly homogeneous lines then 1:1 crossing it with something else does not qualify you as a breeder.

Classical breeding techniques require years of dedication. Making a cross, sending out testers then releasing it under a different name does not make you a breeder.

Unless the parental line of plants of a cross are highly homogeneous to start with then it is going to take several generations to have a line ready for release. If the breeders parental lines are poly hybrids then you can expect to add a few more generations before a line is suitable for release.

It is an insult to see some of the names you guys have to put next to real breeders.

I will give one example. Let me just say that i absolutely mean no disrespect to this guy. He is a great up and comer and i do appreciate his hard work to make select genes available to the public. He has been beating on his craft for a few years now and the results are more than impressive. A name to keep an eye on for sure! There are many like him but he is one of the best in my eyes. It needs to be clear that i mean nothing negative by what i’m about to say and i’m only using this popular guy as an example. I would absolutely 100% buy his gear.

Mosca Negra beans go for a pretty penny and they are 100% worth every cent.

DJ short’s beans on the other hand go for pretty much the same price.

How can this be?

Mosca’s releases are a 1:1 ratio F1.

DJ’s releases are a lifetimes work.

Now i will use some illustrations to further my point. I know even Mosca himself will absolutely agree with what i’m saying here.

DJ’s work.
Now this is just the direction the lines went. These won't include “test crosses” at EVERY step of the way finding homozygous dominant genotypes.

Moscas work.

Old Time Bubba Kush - Bubba Kush x Old Time Moonshine

Please explain how two releases from different guys have the same monetary value and both are classed in the same group as breeders?

One release is a 1:1 cross and the other is multiple crosses selecting and testing involving thousands apon thousands of plants.

THERE ARE VERY CLEAR DISTINCTIONS BREEDERS AND EVERYONE ELSE!

YOU CANNOT PUT ALL THESE PEOPLE IN THE SAME CATEGORY AS SAMS, SOMA, CLARKE, DJ, TOM, CHIMERA, ETC ETC

You will all work this out over the long run.

But I ain't got time or space to practice botany techniques, Im old and in pain. hehe. Time sheddule. hehe. I need good meds now! Having said that, I've had better luck with the small closet pollen chuckers that gift beanage out than any of the ones I ever bought and it took a good long time for me to get over buyin ever dang one that came with a good report, bean whore, if you will. Ive ended up horse tradin those expensive buggers out. So I rate the compassionate and generous gifts for free closet chuckers #1. Some of us dont' have the access that other have to the great chit, so beans is mostly all we can hope for. And then of course, make our own. JMHO,

Edit: I noticed you aimed your Q at Mr S, but this is what I would want to say on it.

OTH > Actually I don't know why genetics do drift and if they indeed do so at all. ( mind clearing me up H707? and I am not ironicly calling you out by any means. Honest!)

Just a piece of plain ignorance still on my behalf but what I do know is this: Quote of myself & kaka from a view pages back:

Im sorry you've never grown it or you would know that Sub is being truthful here. There is a reason its survived so long, its just that damn good, so good that many hundreds of trusted gardeners have been gifted this clone via the boards over the years. I know Chimera even uses it in some of his crosses and he certainly wouldn't use it if it wasn't worthy.

Think about other cuts like original diesel and the real sourd cut, those plants are 20+ years old also.

OTH > You say it so I prolly will have to take your word on it.

I'd love to see this peticular clone beeing selfed in a couple of patches of huge sea of greens tho, only to breed them in for a couple of generations using the same principle but then with TRUE males and see what happens...

Wanna get my bet on what it will turn into instead of beeing dormant for prolly 35 years as you guessed?

Humm the fact that you have not seen the drift always makes me wonder.. I have heard this arugment before lots of times and and I still am not convinced by many ppl's claims that their plants have not drifted by cloning from clones or even a tired mom..
My fav strains were clone only strains that I could never get without some sort of problem with them i.e. spidermites etc. This was not the case when I first bought these clones they seem to lose their own vigor.
Obviously there will always be amazing pogeny of plants but can ppl keep (GC,Purple Kush ,Trainwreck indefinately? nah and if they could I wouldn't be having the problem I run into all the time looking for these strains.. There will always be great breeders that can hold strains longer then others or are just great at what they do but those ppl are few and far between here in Van B.C. ask them about this subject don't take my word for it..
