Grow tips you learnt

Hi all, what are a tips you have picked up over the years that have helped you get a better hydro grows. Mine would be:

1. Use a PH and EC meter to make sure you nutrient is correct.

2. Dont have your nutrient mix too strong. I have found most strains grow best with a weak nutrient solution

3. Change your nutrient at least every 2 weeks

4. Train your plants to maximise and get an even growing surface, wire netting etc

5. use grow nutrient for the first week or so of 12/12

Hmmm...

Mine would be:

Use a balanced nutrient profile so you don't have to change out your res.

Use only clean nutrients, no biologicals or other plant derived 'additives'.

Make sure either your res or your medium provides a full pH swing.

Use only R/O water for ultimate control and super clean end product.

Never top off with pH'd water.

No adding nutrients the last 2 weeks, only plain water.

HydroSoil: I think I'm breaking most of the rules, lol. But a couple questions:
Do you lower PH if it goes over a certain threshold?
How do you not change out?
I am adding ACT to my res, what are downsides to this? Once ACT is added then the point of no plant derived is thrown out, so if no ACT, downside of say floralisious+?

Thanks!

Never leave someone else to feed your plants....No one would look after your plants like you.

Always cure your plants right, in the dark using an air tight container.

Never get to over excited or count your chickens before they hatch.

Often over looked. Vegging time is a crucial time for your plants.

I can answer your 1st part..

Typically when running a stable nute profile as he suggested pH will move in equilibrium with EC.

I ran hydro like this without any UP or DOWN ever..no res changes either. Res is diluted over the course of the week using straight RO.. pH rises as a result..EC goes down.. at which point nutes would be added to bring EC up to desired target EC.. pH goes back down.

My tip: Keep your humidity in check late flower or bud rot will ruin your successful harvests. Quality doesnt mean shit if its filled with mold.
2nd tip: Maxibloom at 7g per Gal is great for turning brown thumbs into green thumbs with minimal effort and investment.
3nd tip: float valves, pumps, timers, hand clamps, and remote outlet switches are your friend. Stop carrying buckets of water around.

As always - Less is More.

Don't worry...be happy...
Play music for Your Plants..they like a groove to...
If its droopy watch over watering...
If its Clawing and dark green stop feeding...and only water till it asks for more food..
If its purple stalked/woody in veg check and rebalance pH/nute method..
More light is not always best..
If your Not Sure...Just water...
Not all Indicas are Heavy eaters...
Not all Sativas are Light feeders..
and always Stay kewl

It's cheaper and a lot easier to buy good stuff if you get the right connects lol. That is my tip. I can get good stuff for $120 per ounce and absolute skunky fire for $200. Giving up space to grow, all that time, trouble and risk.... Well the numbers don't add up for me at this time to grow.

All of this... bam on the button. :dance013: :tiphat:

For Hydro systems with roots directly in the nutrient (dwc, nft and so on...) you want to start the pH at around 5.(2-4) ish... Allowing the pH to rise to around 6.0'ish before adding nutes to bring it down.

In systems where the pH drops in the medium (hydroton, peat, rockwool) you'll need to start the pH at round 5.6'ish.. allowing it to rise to 6.0'ish before adjusting.

Hope that helps. :)

Always have a backup pH pen. Even if its one of those $10 ebay ones. Just keep it calibrated.

Your setup, no matter what you're doing, isn't shit w/o good air flow.

Don't over pay for nutes. There are some good, low cost brands.

Healthy roots, healthy fruits.

Foliar feeding is often over looked.

Some awesome tips thanks everyone. Also if you plants dont look healthy act on asap, flush with water, change nuts, check for bugs, etc. Plenty of good info with pics out there to help you identify what going wrong.
