I'd say no...but he would definitely be in the discussion. He would have had a better chance of being the undisputed greatest if he hadn't run into and been controlled by Don King. That was his downfall.

Ali in his prime would have beat him
Jack Johnson(from waaayyyyyy back) would also have handed him his ass.
IMO of course

There is no way Ali would beat Tyson both in their prime. Modern athletes are so much tougher due to modern training

I used to think that too, until I studied Ali in depth.
Ali was a much smarter fighter, tyson was pure thug.

I think if they had a best of 7 series of fights, Ali would win the majority, if it was just a one time thing, it could go either way, but I would give the edge to Ali.

Brian Nielsen should not had got his eyedamage,He would had gaveed him asskick,if not-..
He is not an good boxer, but knock him out-nope-not easy to do..He have newer got all those matches as Tyson had and is more an enjoying familyfather-the dancing bear-than a killer-many DK ppl thought He would get killed in first round-think it was 10 rounds they got..But He got Tysons respect much, for his brave and so...

Rocky Marciano v. Tyson would have been a hell of a fight. Marciano was relentless and was a fucking animal. Tyson was a beast too obviously but not sure he ever fought anyone like the Rock.

1st of all boxing and mma are 2 completely different skill sets.2nd Tyson in his prime would crush Ali in his prime....It's hard to say,but I wouldn't bet against Tyson when he was a angry, mean destruction machine.

Ali was a great boxer, perhaps the greatest, but if you think Tyson was pure thug you should do some more studying. No boxing fan worth their salt can look at him pre-92 and say he wasn't an intelligent and highly disciplined fighter.

In a best of 7 Ali would get swept. I love Ali but he never fought anyone that had Tyson's strength and speed.

Really? George Foreman didn't have tysons strength?
I'd dare say foreman was stronger then tyson.
I'm saying he wasn't an intelligent fighter(tyson)
All his fights were 1 round bum rushs where he absolutely overwhelmed his opponents, and never gave them a chance to get their bearings.

You're selling Ali WAAAYYYYY short here, he beat incredible fighters the likes of which tyson never saw.

Ali was the champ at the height of boxing, not the side show it is today, and was becoming in tysons era.

And this guy would have beat them both, IMO.

In his Prime he K.O. anybody on Earth if he connected... bare Glove that would kill you

Even if you blocked his shots back then...he would just wear you down after a couple of hard hits...

Tyson was the Man until his coach died...and then it was downhill from there

Speed AND strength. Gotta have both to match up with Tyson, keep in mind. Foreman was strong as an ox and slow as one too. Look at Foreman in his prime and then Tyson. Two completely different fighters that pose completely differently problems for an opponent.

I don't know why you maintain that he wasn't an intelligent fighter. Maybe you don't like the guy personally or only know of his career after he got out of prison? He was coached by some of the best and was a student of boxing. To think he was just some dumb thug bum rushing people is at best an oversimplification, at worst it's just foolish.

Jack Johnson was a bad mother but I think you have a better argument with Ali than Jack. Speed is just too significant a difference from Johnson to Ali to Tyson. He's too slow for Tyson on the whole but if he connected just once that would do the trick. There is a great video of Jack Johnson in an exhibition where his opponent starts going a little harder than maybe the exhibition was intended for and Johnson drills him in the mouth and gets teeth stuck in his glove. The shot of him brushing the teeth out of his glove is priceless.

I hear what you're saying, and agree, foreman was a gorilla, but slow.

I see an Ali victory going like this.
Ali stays on the defensive for the first couple rounds using his reach advantage and ability to fight off the ropes to the weather the storm that is tysons first two rounds, after that when tyson is starting to gas from his insane pace, Ali continues to wear him down for another couple rounds, and drops him in the fifth.

All that is dependant on Ali surviving the first two rounds.
I could just as easy see tyson mugging him in the first minute of the first round.

I'm giving Ali an edge over tyson, but a TINY one, like 51% to 49%

Chunk Norris would have kicked both their asses.....LOL'

But seriously speaking, I would have thought Joe Fraiser would have given a better fight against Tyson than Ali.....two similar fighters.
