You're not a addict, you're chemically depend. true A doctor told me a addict is a person who takes drugs recreationally to get high. Taking for pain relief is a totally different story right.
Ditto. My doctor had said the same thing to me when I said I must be addicted to oxycodone for pain.

My lower back used to freeze up in pain and I'd end up on the ground sometimes, once in my driveway getting the mail. What actually had triggered it one time was picking up an empty garbage pail the wrong way (bad leverage and leaned too much) after I guess being sedentary for a bit too.

Just be careful lifting most any object, it's mainly about balance and getting center of gravity. An office chair/home pc setup also can be very bad for your lower AND upper back especially after long periods. That's why I'm on a Lazy Boy as I type this on my HDTV screen (heard 30-45 degrees incline is also recommended). Also exercise and some mild stretching couldn't hurt, and that's also for prevention.

What has actually cured my lower-mid back aches over the decades is simply laying in bed flat on my back with a low profile pillow under my neck for about 15-30 minutes. I make a habit of doing this each time I relax or go to bed till I fall asleep (and end up on my side w/pillow in between knees to keep hips aligned). It worked so well I still have a top-of-the line Teeter Hang Ups still in the box that I haven't used yet. I guess gravity does the stretching. They do say you're an inch or 2 taller after getting up in the morning from bed.

Ever since I haven't really had any back problems. Knock on wood. :)

I have a TempurPedic type foam bed. Just as good if not better w/high foam density (5 lb) that lasts. There are so many cheap knockoffs but I found this site: mattressbymail.com (The Foam Factory) and have 1/4-1/2 the price. 15 year warranty and mines like new after 5 years. I'll never pay for those Tempur-Pedic prices, they are ridiculous.

One of my friend's sister says she like the Select Comfort better that inflates and has an adjustable setting for each side of bed. But I guess each person is different and I don't think I'd trade.

i think i need a new mattress.

Maybe, but try this first if you haven't already....flip your mattress over and then turn it 180 degrees and it will feel like a new one for awhile and when you start leaving a permanent depression, flip it over again, this time without the 180 degree tiurn.

and while you are flipping the mattress, vacuum it on both sides to suck up all that fine dust which can affect your sinuses.

another good exercise for back lower backs to do (before sleeping as it's relaxing) is to lay flat on the bed (if you have a firm mattress or do this exercise on a mat on the floor) with your legs hard against and vertical against a wall for 5 + minutes, make sure your buttocks are firmly against the wall and your upper body and head are flat and horizontal so your body is in an L shape, breathe slowly and deeply....this is relaxing but can be challenging at first, so try to do it for a few minutes for the first week then build up your minutes.

When doing any lifting, keep your buttocks & lower abs firmed as well as use your legs..where I live, house movers who are short and thin carry refrigerators up and down 5 flights of stairs by themselves by carrying the load on their back, then it's all about legs and balance with zero pressure on the lower back...it's surprising just how relatively effortlessly how much weight can be carried this way.

I'm in the middle of trying to quit pills for a few days anyway. Just to do it and to really feel how bad my back is without opiates. I don't like them. At all and having to take them is a bitch. I eat cannabis and it helps me hold down the opiates. It's hard to cut back when you really need the drug for pain. I live in a crazy State. I could get all the drugs I wanted if I didn't use cannabis.

Hank...check out youtube for yoga videos for bad backs and it's quite possible you will find pain relief with an hour of yoga each day, the benefits will begin after the first workout. Combine the yoga with a daily walk and you will start feeling like a spring chicken again. I don;t want to sound like a broken record here, but pain drugs only mask or blur the pain and do nothing to help the actual problem, yoga with strengthen the muscles that support the spine, lengthen and straighten the spine as well as other benefits.....buy a yoga mat and get bending and breathing.

after getting up from even a couple hours of laying down my sciatica nerve is in severe spasm, gets me screaming, crying, writhing in pain. only after sitting up very quietly for awhile does it stretch enough to allow me the comfort to move/walk again. thank god for good weed.......

I'm starting PT (again) this Monday. I got a list of 17 exercises to do at home. So I hope it helps some. Don't want to go for some reason. PT helped a little bit a couple of years ago but now I've got this spinal cord restricted thing going on with my nerves. I need to get off my ass and give it my best, hell it won't hurt me. And PS Stoner save your crying for your back you'll be this way from now on. Oh yeah thanks for the T-day wishes, the misses says thankyou too

I have some remodeling going on @ my home, I've been up & active more in the past 20 days than I've been in a year, unfortunately my back/nerves have not been up to the challenge.

toss in a couple of weather changes and I'm almost afraid to lie down for fear of the pain of my sciatica going out once I get back out of bed. I tricked it a little bit yesterday, instead of standing up & getting hit with 100% of the full JOLT when it went out I stayed hunched over & took three short hobbled steps to my task chair. By the time I got to the chair the nerve was beginning to slip out of place but sitting right away as opposed to standing eliminated the horrible pain I've recently been subjected to. Still hurt like a bastard but @ least I wasn't howling in pain.

My back will self adjust shortly or I'll finally be pushed into a decompression surgery which I've resisted passionately.

as mentioned above I've been dreading laying down, I was just sitting on the edge of my bed holding my mothers Virgin Mary medallion and praying for some relief, I put the medallion back in my shirt pocket and a few moments later I had a subtle little 'pop' in my lower back.

I realize that my life is comprised of many pops in my lower back but this one came with curious timing and without any flexing or twisting on my part to elicit that pop. I think I'll lie down for a short while.......

I hear you guys. I'm under 25 with 2 degenerative discs. Going in for MRI to find out if there herniated I believe was the word? Shit sucks so bad. Weather is getting cooler and it's getting terrible. Was laying down watching Safe House with my lady and couldn't literally move for about 30 minutes for some reason yesterday when i tried to get up. Worst it's been so far.

Started a Vax-D treatment. Third chiro I've tried. First time trying this thing though. I don't have insurance so this shit better work for this price paid.

This shit is making it hard for me to do anything productive. Gives me a little harder drive to get out to a Med state ASAP. Hard for me to keep any job since the pain can be fine one day and then the next I can't walk.

Heart probs stop me from taking certain pain meds so I have to just suck it up sometimes.

Started my own bizz because of this. Best thing I've done since I can just pay a trained friend to take over when I can't get out of bed.

WTF!!!

I did a Google search looking for the source
of my problems and I run into this offer.

No wonder I can't find any relief from my pain.
How long has this shit been going on???

it's all good bench warmer, np.

my back's been in much better shape since that pop a week ago although my sciatica has been acting up to a lesser degree, it just tweaked no more than 30 seconds ago as I began typing this post.

gotta go sit down in my easy chair.

I'm up early too S4L, gosh darn back(hey I didn't say God damn). PT is starting to help a bit. Wish I had a more positive attitude for the PT. They seem to be afraid they'll hurt me. I've this new exercise for vertigo, hope it works.
