when do you think its gonna be full of plants?

I have a mom (from some super fruity pebbles smelling unknown strain bag seed) that is going in there tomorrow, along w/ a couple of rooting clones I cut off her. I am planning on growing the mom, and cutting clones for a few weeks. I have some beans en route (FMS Pure AK and Mandala safari mix plus some freebies.) once the beans come and sprout I am keeping the best clone for a new mom, and flowering everything else. I am trying to get my PPK set up in there too before i flip to flower, and set up a separate mom/clone area, but that may not happen. If so I will hand water till I get the ppk set up, as I need to build the reservoir from scratch so it fits perfectly and I can max the space out. I am going to cut clones off of each plant a couple of weeks into flower. Once I harvest I will take the clones from the best plants to keep as mothers, then will set the whole thing up as a perpetual SOG. It will hold 36 total plants. I am either going to harvest 4 per week or 8 every other week. Hopefully I will be flowering the first big batch (mom, 5-6 clones, 3 AK 5 mandala plus freebies) 14-20 days from now.

Cool man, looks like ya got it all figured out.

Only thing is with the bag seed, you don't know how long it needs to flower.. and Christmas will be Herr in no time. Im probably a month behind you, and I'm looking at the end of Jan as harvest date...

Oh, another thing. What's ppk? Or at least what does it stand for?

PPK stands for passive plant killer (the origin of the name was derived when D9 started trying this out and is kinda a joke now) is a variant of a hydro system. It is extensively documented on here by Delta9nxs, ImaginaryFriend, and Oldone. It combines good parts of several different systems, but keeps your roots out of the reservoir providing more of a buffer for your plants.

The first pic is the PPk Reservoir I designed for my application. There will be a bulk res that will feed this. The water level in side is controlled by a float valve. The air gap between the bottom of your pots and the water level is important, as it keeps the medium from getting too wet. The holes in the top accept the pots in the 2nd pic. the pots hold 1l of medium. You see the tailpiece coming out of the bottom of the pot. That is also filled with medium, and a screen is installed on the bottom to keep the roots from growing out of it. The medium acts like a wick to draw nutrient solution up from the res to the roots. I will also feed from the top with pulses, mainly to keep fresh air drawing into the coco, and to keep salt buildup down. The guys running Jacks hydro nutes in these systems are getting awesome results. The best part is is how easy it is, the ph stays stable, if you lose power it is no big deal as there is no bubbler needed like other hydro setups, as long as there is water in the res, the wicks feed the plant. Once you get it set up and your PPM on your res right for the strain you are running all you need to do is top off the bulk res once in a while.

This is a very over simplified explanation to this method. I have taken the basic theory of their designs and adapted it for a micro SOG.

I suggest checking out some of the links in OldOne's signature (see post #5 of this thread). you get all the benefits of growing in coco, with very little maintenance involved. I like to go on vacation and take off for 3-20 days at a time. As long as you have a big enough bulk res you can do that with this system , and don't have to worry about the plants.

Awesome !!

Thanks for the detailed explanation.

Can't wait to see you get it up and running.

Quick update, cabinet is in the basement, ran a test on it. Runs at 69*-79* F with lights on all sealed up. No pics right now, but my one mom and 2 fresh cut clones are in there right now. I still have some sealing up to do on it, but gotta get some more weather stripping tomorrow. Some pretty major light leaks right now, but that will get fixed. Getting started on the PPK tomorrow hopefully too. I got the design and build all figured out for it, I just have to go through the shop and see what I have for plywood to build the reservoir with. I may need to buy a little bit more 1/2" ply, plus I need hoses and a small pump.

Later all, and thanks for the "props"

Well, Beans came in the mail today. I started to germinate 10 reg Mandala Safari mix, 4 Pure AK from Female Seeds, 2 reg Kandy Kush, 1 Fem White Widow x Blueberry, and 1 Black Domina x OG Fem. I will post pics once they pop and there is something to look at. I have one mom, and 2 cuts from her right now. It is a really fruity indica, I am not sure of the strain though, so for now I will call her Mystery Fruit. I should have a total of 8 viable clones from her by the time the rest are ready to flip to 12/12. 2 weeks into flower I will take 2 clones from each. I will grow all of these into bonsai moms, and determine after harvest which 6 I will keep. I like to have variety to smoke from.

PPk res build is coming up too. Starting that tomorrow.
