A Bunch Of Issues

My friend is having some serious issues with his plants and is too sketched out to seek advice on-line. This is my attempt to save his grow.

He is using a T5 8, Foxfarm soil and a variety of strains, which I will list when he gets back to me.

Thoughts? Is this a pH issue? nutes? He is using just Foxfarm without nutes. Apparently Foxfarm is nutrient rich?

Go easy on us? Please be as constructive as possible. We want to turn this situation around (if possible).

Spider mite signs on at least one plant, another showing what looks to be light burn, all seem to be unhappy with vapor pressure deficit parameters. I've never used FF soils, which soil is he using? What about the watering routine, and parameters? If it's really hard water or something like that, it could also cause issues.

Kinda hard to tell..
What are the temps? Some of those big t5's can put out a decent amount of heat...
I'm no expert but it looks like heat stress, and some of those plants look like they've got some thrip damage(pic 2/5). Thrips LOVE heat stress/dry conditions.
Fox farm soil usually has enough nutes to start your plants off but you're gonna need to feed guys! They look hungry.
Get a fan on those, they're pretty spindly. Airmovement will strengthen stems, keep temps in check, and irritate thrips.
Buy some veg nutes, cal/mag nutes, and liquid karma. This will help a lot.
Buy a pesticide with spinosad. It'll kill the thrips.
After all this, spray with some neem oil. It's safe to spray under t5's.

Hopefully this works for ya

Thanks for the immediate responses! Heading to the store tomorrow to grab Neem and veg nutes tomorrow. What nutes do you guys recommend for Veg?

I use botanicare but there are many choices. Have used advanced, general hydroponics and fox farm with much success as well.. I like botanicare because i've always used liquid karma as an additive no matter what line i'm using so one day i just started using the whole botanicare lineup.

If he lowered the plants make sure he's lowered the light too!! flouros should be around 6" from the tops. that's why it's imperative to have good airflow; a few fans moving air on and above the tops of the plants while they are in veg will keep hot spots from developing.

oh yea and ph test your water.. all the fertilizer in the world won't help you if you have a ph imbalance locking your nutrient supply out... you're gonna want your ph around 6.0

Alright, we picked up some Botanicare Veg and the plants seem to be responding already to the lowered light. We also have a clip fan on it now and tested the pH. Unfortunately the pH is around 8.0. Should we switch water sources, or is there a good solution to lowering the pH to 6.0?

an easy fix is good ol' plain vinegar.......but don't let it sit. If you use vinegar, use the water soon after adding...I mean within the day,,,not hours or minutes..:)....

That's the way a lot of people, including myself lower PH BUT.........adding nutrients to your water will lower or should lower it so please check after adding nutrients, then add vinegar if needed. I'm sure you will get more replies as to what to use. They'll be just as good or maybe even better..just that usually everyone has vinegar.:)

I use roots organic natural ph down. Was like 10$. I've had it for 2 years and still have 3/4 of the bottle left. All you need is like 20 grains of it per gallon of water..
And like vukman said, i know for a fact that the botanicare will lower the ph of your water.

There should be instructions on the bottle of neem. It's usually like 1/2 tsp per quart of water. And DEFINITELY SPRAY IT ON lol. Add a tiny drop of dish soap to it as well; it works 10 times better.

Thanks for the advice, everyone! We've balanced the pH of the water using a little bit of vinegar and gave them a good flush to clear the roots and soil. We will apply the Neem in a day or two.

What is the humidity, and temperature in there?
Do you have a fan circulating air around, and at the plants?
Is there any air movement at all? exhaust? intake?

Thank you for all of your comments and assistance! Things have turned around quite a bit!

What is the suggested/most effective method for applying Neem? Spray bottle?

Any sprayer will work. For small gardens I like those sprayers with the nozzle that will spray up. And you should add the neem to luke warm water and add either a biodegradable soap or whatever they have at the grow store to allow the oil to mix w water. Very important if you want it to work. About 2 teaspoons / gal. of soap, shake well. And I think the neeam will be 1 oz/gal., check label.

Wow man those look great! doesn't even look like the same garden..
It's good to see that those turned around on you.
What nutes did you end up buying?
and when are you gonna flip the lights to 12/12 ?

-Here is a list of the strains in the garden-

Hawaian Diesel
Chem Dawg
Grape Kush
Cali O

Does anyone have any experience with any of these strains?

I've got a mostly chem cross.

Great plant but get a carbon filter... It's dankness can overpower everything in the garden...
