This will turn your stomach--

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A Monroe County man convicted of growing marijuana in greenhouses with his son has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
The government says 52-year-old xxxxxx xxxxx. and son xxxxxx xxxxx “shamelessly exploited” Michigan’s medical marijuana law to try to get around a federal ban on pot.
xxxxxxx xxxxx was sentenced Monday by Detroit federal Judge David Lawson, while xxxxxx xxxxxl is returning to court Tuesday.

The greenhouses on Ida Center Road in Monroe County were approximately 100 feet long and 50 feet wide.
The xxxxxx's admit they were growing marijuana but insist it was for medicinal use under Michigan law. xxxxxx xxxxxxl says he thought the large operation was protected.
Drug Enforcement Agency officials said even if the xxxxxxx's were licensed to distribute marijuana, they took advantage of the laws and far exceeded their limitations, the Monroe Evening News reported.
xxxxxxx xxxxx’s sentence was six years less than what prosecutors had recommended.

Yeah but they also bust gray haired old ladies with the intent to lock em up... They did that last year. I know it ain't much... But getting a case in the d is a small break... They see real crime daily... This is likely viewed as a waste of their time, behind closed doors. Likely why they got a 'lower' sentencing. Several normal, everyday farmers out here trying to convert over to save the farm. Wouldn't be surprised if these folks were a bit on the ropes and naive to their state protections. Not like the lawyers here aren't pushing peeps with a false sense of security.

Make no mistake. The bad guys here are the Feds. How can a system be so heartless to destroy a man's life over some medicinal herbs?
It's insanity, and it's got to be stopped.
Another of Obama's victims.
Cruel & unusual punishment.
Just sickening.

5000+ square feet is a whole lotta dope.

Not saying they were in the wrong, but they did break the law. Medical law aside if you exceed certain plant numbers or certain product weight state laws do you no good, the Feds are like honey badgers, they just don't give a shit.

My thoughts are with them, I wouldn't wish the federal governments wrath on amyone.

Mi is still a good state to do work in though, the aa, ypsi, detroit area are much safer/pot friendly than Monroe.

if they were state legal they shouldn't be judged as greedy because of the size of their op

I don't care how many plants they had. A man should not be caged like a wild animal for it.
I'm not superstitious, but if there were a hell, it will be well populated by the Feds.
These scumbags make a living destroying people.
They are sadistic.

I hope you folks don't get the impression I believe what happened is right, I'm just stating fact. You break federal law and get caught your fucked.

I risk my freedom everyday too(lost it once too), and think anyone who believes a plant should be a prisionable offense is inhuman, or ignorant as shit, but it doesn't change the fact they broke the law and got caught.

Not much to do but overgrow this bitch, and send them positive vibes.

Keep up the good fight.

Ridiculous. Any State with a Bill Schutte is not safe to grow such massive greenhouses in. Too capricious, the LEO's are, personal freedom too precious. These people pushed it way too hard. I met a few people in Da Mitten who seemed unable to know when to chill on the numbers, once they got going. I am sure they will end up in Hot water at some point.

While I hate to see anyone locked up for cannabis, yeah they pushed too far too quick. I'd almost say they dared the DEA to do something.

For those that don't know, we in MI are allowed to possess 2.5 z's per patient, max of 5 patients plus yourself. Each 100 x 50 greenhouse was legal for a "Michigan pound", 15 ounces.

Doesn't take a genius to figure with 70 plants they were going to be a tad over the limit.

Well, that crosses Michigan off my list.
And of course, as we all know, there shouldn't be any government involvement in any of this, and we all should be able to grow as many plants as we want.

It makes me sick to think their sitting in jail for growing some plants.

I also like to support the idea of overgrowing the government but in someways you just have to stay within the law.

In no way do I support keeping cannabis illegal, but pushing the law like this isn't helping anyone. You can grow enough for 5 patients and not get anywhere close to 72 plants at a time so it kind of seems like they were just trying to make money but I don't want to talk down on them because I have no idea what they were doing.

I don't really see any problem with making money but with that kind of space I imagine they could produce quite a bit especially with it being a greenhouse. Once again the fact that their in jail makes me sick to my stomach but not only are there some grey area's in Michigan's medical marijuana law but greenhouse's in particular have seemed to cause quite a bit of trouble due to the fact that the plants need to be safe and secure. I mean lets be honest the the LEO's idea of safe and secure will be way different than any rational human being.

All of the people in MI being taking down by feds, are doing stupid things to begin with... I.e., the russel complex, the owosso warehouse that was sectioned off for patients to rent, and this one.

If you go big and are blatant, you're a target for the Feds. Grow big plants in a grey area way like these giant greenhouses, or exceed federal numbers in any building or organization you're a part of, and DEA will be knocking on your door.

No one should be in jail for growing this plant, you're not smart and you're not a martyr when you go to jail for pushing the limits of a system that is already having a hard time gaining legitimacy. If we follow the rules and don't put it in the face of the people that can take our freedom, we'll be fine.

were they over plant count or did they get busted at harvest....? if they dont get you with dried material it doesnt matter how many plants you have or how much they might yield unless they were over... sad situation.

I think their plant count was within limits(72) and they had the OK from the local Leo also
but there where two green houses at one location =144 plants witch we all know is a no no for the DEA
still a sad story i was at the rally in the D in front on the court house

I dont care how big or how many plants they had, when rapists and murders get less of a sentence then farmers, you know the systems fucked.

We should start a change.org petition for every situation we see like this. There must be hundreds of thousands of members on this website.

The Feds must have told YouTube to delete the video.
Big Brothers censorship of the truth again!

This dude and his son in prison makes me very sad. This is why its so important to put in the wicked hard work of guerilla growing even in a legal state.
If they stayed within the plant count limits and did the rest guerilla style, they would prob be off with probation and a nice harvest still. Or never even got messed with in the first place.

Sure it should be legal for all !!
But to call what these folks were doing "greedy" is a severe understatement !
Two huge warehouses full of giant plants, a trillion miles from any legal activity under current Michigan law. " Caretakers" is a outright joke !
They were taking care of themselves only and doing a very poor job of that. Anybody doing anything on a scale like this should know the possible outcomes and protect themselves. NEVER have over 100 plants on one property - everybody should know that. Like 45 giant 8 ft x 8 ft plants would be so hard to " step down to".
They should have used some of their income to get good legal advice which would have told them NEVER have over 100 plants.
People that get this super ultra greedy give us all a bad name. They went to prison - this should have been of no surprise if they did their research, people have been sent up for years doing similar things.
Is it fair ???? That is irrelevant. The reality if you get caught doing similar, the results are prison time. Just the risks of doing business on a huge scale.
