Does anyone here remember Silverback?

I don't get much response to my questions here...perhaps I am not asking about interesting things, perhaps people can tell I am older and stuff, perhaps Overgrow is never coming back in spirit. But here goes...

There was this legend named Silverback, who died in a canyon near his grow of a heart attack. Myth has it that he was there when Bubblegum was developed out in Indiana, or Ohio...I forget.

He was a big fan of Maple Leaf Indica, and he also loved a KC strain, either 36 or KC 33...

Can anyone remember? Is KC gear down to ten bucks US because it sucks that much? Or is it just being overlooked in this mad world of shuffling genetics?

Silverback on KC33

Early riser from sag is a very good outdoor plant, vigorous and disease resistant.

Im not sure that a more vigorous strain than the KC is available . Ive grown it numerous times and its the only strain Ive grown repeatedly that has never had a problem of any kind. It wont mould and its pest proof as far as I can tell. If the wind blows it over, it grows roots out the side and grows sideways. During stretch, ive seen the plant grow as much as 6" a day .

Potency, flavor and bag appeal is excellent. I keep the plant categorized in the same group as sensi star, or endless sky. A very short list of exceptional cannabis strains.

I remember him as I lurked nearly all the threads he chimed in (along with Backcountry, another master of outdoors/guerilla growing & experimentation)...invaluable knowledge...didn't know he passed away...rest in peace Silverback....thanx for bringing his memory back....

Concerning KC Brains, I grew 2 packs of Leda Uno (in 2008 I think)...it was very good in all aspects (germination, grow, potency)...it's at least as good & IMO more stable & consistant many more expensive breeders....hope it helps...oh yeah I always go by 2 packs...it helps finding the right pheno...

Always loved reading his posts. He spoke from a lot of experience. The timing of his "death" had me scratching my head for a while. It was announced after he had a dust up with Julian. For a while I wondered if it was just an Internet fiction. RIP Silverback

Wow, replies...

Thank you so much...it is kc33...it is the time of year to order for next summer, and am rummaging around. Will order a few packs.

Backcountry is alive and well I hope up in Oregon...he was all about the hot dry grow, and irrigation. Not my worry in the north central US.

Any other remembrances? And forgive me, I can't recall what TNR is from Sag, but will click a few keys here as I sip red wine and wait for my first Blue Satellite 2.2 plants to dry...

Have fallen under the spell of Esbe, but should branch out...

Deep in my bog a number of danish strains are coming home to the jars for a long cold winter.

And I am ordering Leda on your say so...just love the sound of its name, and have been curious for years about that one.

It's been awhile since I heard his name, I remember hearing about his passing though. Hell of a story dying out tending your patch.

Hi Oldsterone. Yes I remember silverback. I guess we all have to go and it sounds like he died doing what he loved. There's something poetic about that.

While we're dating ourselves, I wonder whatever happened to Stoner133? I always found him thoughtful and helpful.

I'm happy Backcountry is all right....Leda Uno is a famous strain, very well equibrated, with some good pheno to find, but today it's quite oldish and nothing "really special" about it...there is a legend about the Leda Uno "black pheno"! so much strains today...

Thanks for these responses...

Ayato, I don't know that Backcountry is alright, just assuming. Have not seen him around.

And Two Heads, I have lost track of Stoner 133 of BC, Captain Skunk of Illinois, and Northern Dude from Ontario...I used to trade seeds with those guys, and I am now reminded of their strain Derailed Blues, which was a delightful cross of Blue Mystic and Trainwreck; probably easy to make again. For some time these dudes went to planet ganja, then opengrow, but alas, where they are I know not.

Those were the days, as we sometimes recall. Donald Trump with his awesome girlfriend mingled in with his indoor plants, Sasquatch and so forth.

Have a good finish in the swamp Two Heads...I am in pretty good shape in my bog I think...I already have jar stuffed with Blue Satellite 2.2 but man is that stuff strong. 10 plants still packing it on...jeff

He along with Moondawg here, helped get me onto Maple Leaf Indica and for that I am very grateful.

Sounds like he lived his life like he wanted and sad that he died so young, but not sad how he lived his life.

Has it really been that long to legitimately ask "does anyone remember Silverback?"

If you don't remember him, you haven't been here or other forums with outdoor sections where he dropped knowledge left and right.

UDG has a huge thread he was a major contributor too and I'm pretty sure he has at least a couple on here still floatin around.

Anyway, Yes, I remember him and I'm sure many people remember, if not him, at least lot of the knowledge he passed on.

edit................................
Silverback was great. a true resource to the community. He is missed for sure. Sorry for coming off so abrasively. Thanks for bringing up his memory.

There are a lot of us who still ask why? why no Overgrow? So many don't remember, I do, Silverback, Overgrow, and my first smoke, 1963, 15 years old, when some friends from N.O. came to the "country" to visit Grand Ma. It was never a thought in my mind to not try weed. This is one of the things I shared with Silverback.. I never knew his name and he never knew mine but kindred spirits don't need names.

Siverback was a Idol to me. Another Old Timer some of you know is Ranger Danger. Who is also no longer with us. I never chated with SB but read most his post for sure.

Way back in the day RD was my mentor. After failed grows he took me on. The first thing he made me do was buy KC Brains Northern Lights Original. Said he would not help me anymore until I got the seeds. I grew this same NL for about 5 years with no problem. Finaly got my 1lb plant.

I just do backyard grows now. But up to 2008 I was still using tips from both these guys year after year. Like mouse traps upside down on twigs to scare little animals away from smaller plants.

Here is the very same seed pack. Also back in the day I was not really on Overgrow. I was at Growkind at the same time. 1995 is going way back.

He had a huge impact on growing around here.

There are 2 primary strains grown around here and both are crosses he made. They have certainly changed my life.

We have a strain called "Peach Cobbler" which is a blueberry male crossed to a Maple leaf indica female and its probably the most commonly grown strain around here. I dont know why Delicious seeds or Sweet seeds hasnt made this cross because its tasty as hell. My wife says it taste like the syryp that canned peaches comes in. Sweet, thick and fruity, it yeilds big, finishes in 55 days and is the happiest, giggliest smoke ive every tried. You smile from the first toke. I guess with both Blueberry and Maple leaf being tasty and euphoric, their offspring would as well and it is. It is some good shit.

The second strain most commonly grown outdoors is a maple leaf indica female and a KC 33 male. KC33's passes on its lemmony taste, its huge, sativa structure and its amazing vigor and hardiness on to anything its crossed with. Maple leaf is also a tough, disease resistant plant that finishes fast as hell - 45 days indoors and 60 outdoors and this cross finishes fast. It makes 7' plants with a good lb of tasty, lemmony potent smoke...AND MANY OF THE PLANTS ARE DONE BY MID SEPTEMBER!!!! It is the fastest finishing plant ive grown. If you had to pick the last of august youde get a decent harvest with the cross.

I grow both strains all the time. I have a room full of peach cobbler right now and have already harvested about 1/2 of my "shit that killed Elvis" strain of MLIX33.

kc33 is such a good parent/father that ive ordered up 12 og kush seeds. Im gonna dust up the best female in the bunch with a big honkin 33 daddy and see if i cant turn it into a plant that outdoor growers can love.
