Hey budman. I usually defol anything that's blocking lower bud sites if I get over crowded. Leave and tuck down anything you can, and just chop off the rest. As far as cleaning your air stone try soaking in a bleach/water solution for 24 hrs, then hook it up to your air pump for a while in the same solution. Maybe even try taking a tooth brush to it. Since it's going into organic stuff id obviously soak it in plain water after the bleach solution.

I found this on a saltwater aquarium site:

Here's How:

Rinse the air stone(s) in freshwater, lighting scrubbing any excess build up off the outside.
Allow to air dry.
Boil in freshwater for 10 minutes.
Allow to air dry.
Soak in a solution of 1 part household bleach to 3 parts freshwater for 24 hours.
Remove from bleach solution and attach an air line from an air pump to the stone and place it in a container of freshwater, letting it run for 5 minutes.
Remove from freshwater and continue to let the air pump through the stone for 5 minutes.
Allow to completely air dry, then store for future use.

Tips:

To help remove hard calcium deposits, vinegar can be used in place of bleach in Step 5, or you can repeat Steps 5-8 alternating with both solutions.
DO NOT dry air stones of any kind in an oven, as this will melt the plastic hose coupling.
The above steps can be reduced, but for the best results, do ALL of them.
By repeatedly drying the stones, this allows them to absorb the different liquids and then expel the reduced contaminants.
This cleaning process can be used for any type of air stone material; i.e. wood, ceramic, mineral, etc.

I usually start to pick the big fans off once stretch is over. A little here, a little there, but I'm definitely aggressive about it. I don't like to monkey with 'em too much until stretch is done, though I do take off new sucker branches that pop up during stretch.

I think you're right on track with the bleach/vinegar soak & bubble, then rinse & clean water bubble.

:)

Budman, IMO you get better bubbles for makeing tea if you use and airlift type brewer.
You can make your own very easy with a p-trap
Headyblunt has a cool link for and easy build. No airstone just 4 tube placed in holes in the upsidedown p-trap with notches cut in.
No airstone no clog and much more air helps grow more micro goodies!!!:woohoo:

budman..... I removie all fan leaves.... i also defol in veg through flower........ since you're in flower... wait till after stretch , then take off all big fan leaves, leaving only secondary fan leaves... most of the time i defol about 2 - 3 times in flower because after a week of growth you cant tell anything has been removed.........

pic of a plant i defol 3x in flower

fwiw, from what i see main-lining + defol= best of both worlds.....

things are moving right along..

connie chung is pretty wankster. not really into her. the dtrains are the show stoppers...the BW is kill.

dtrains have a garlic/earthy/piney/pissy stench when you brush against them. one pheno is particular looks like its going to be a monster. good thing i have clones going at a friends...we have it all so there should be no issue if i find something very special

i defoliated some fans with big stems today...maybe a handful on each plant. the light pen looks much much better. i also moved and velcro some ladies down to really take advantage of the footprint. also picking up another fan to lay ont he ground and let them really breathe....this is by far the most packed tent i have had to date. this is about to get fun...

someone told me they have some nanner on the BW around weeks 6 so i am on the look out...everythings looks on the up and up so far

Lookin' forward to seein' the pics from the defoliation, never done it myself, but hear the results are quite worthwhile. :woohoo:

Never a problem with the BW here, but I didn't do any training. Maybe she's sensitive to that sort of thing. <shrug>

re:The BW, I don't wanna clutter up your log. But give a holler if you want to see a pic or two of her at chop. Was surprised how much bud she had, didn't look like much till I stripped the greenery. Nice and frosty, though. :)

Nice! The one I had was pretty darn leafy! I bet it would have been a good candidate for defoliation. :)

Picked out a few pics to show the progression, cut her @ 66 days flower after a 37 day veg.

Great lookin' dame cartman - what was the lighting there? Almost looks like it was run vert, just in terms of its density down below :respect:

On the defoliation, what you've got there in that last picture is basically what you're going for, by the end of flower. I don't start picking the fans 'til after stretch, and when I do, I snag a few here, a few there - always keeping in mind to not freak out the plant by taking s'damned many leaves. :)

Looks great - this is what makes a good place :good:

i installed another 6inch clip on fan that is near the bottom pointing up...seems to be giving them a real breather. the stretch is over and they are starting to really fill in. i have been pulling a handful on inside fan leaves for the past 4-5 days and they are staying very happy and getting much more light. super soil is looking great...there is one dtrain that looks like it might be hungry but it could be my imagination...i want them to start fading around day 45 and i plan on taking them around 65...this is according to the dtrains schedule....im willing to take them a tad longer if the everything will finish the same time. ive read the connie chung might take 70 days or so. depends on the pheno. i happen to think she is a fatty sativa leaning girl...but shes still got green fannerz.the stench is getting serious when you crack the tent...still havent purchased a new carbon filter but have it on the list of things. it is working very well but i can see it kickin out soon. smell is never an issue, i check double check all the time. bring others in with fresh noses, will use the gell stuff if need be.

the temps are dropping which is perfect for my situation. temps have been sitting steady 70off 78on...it cold will continue and increase so i am prepared to throw in the 600 and blast em for the last few weeks if need be ;-)

the last watering the all got an EWC/Sucanat tea and this time they got plain tap water. the sugar did them well as they really have turned the corner in the past three or four days. full swellage mode as dhf would say. the warmth in my chest and face is increasing i am getting closer to a wonderful, organic, bountiful harvest and i couldnt be happier...halloween is going to be a delight.

the dtrain in the back right of the tent is very gangly. some little stems on her. but she is getting so fat. she's really showing off and is absolutely gorgeous...she might come out of nowhere and destroy them competition in weight. dtrain #1 is stout, didnt stretch nearly as much and is frosty as hell...she looks like 8 fat little sausages on sticks. no larf, tight fat nugs. even the fan leaves are frosty...when i take em out next weekend i will get some better pics...in the basement there is no natural light so i rely on my flash. i have a canon 2ti. can anyone recommend a relatively cheap flash so i can take better pics for you guys?

They make a flash diffuser that snaps into the hot pad on
the top of your camera, they work relatively well and only
cost like $25... :2cents:
