A Noobs Journey - 12/12fs, CFL, Smartpots

Hey all! Welcome to my spot! What I got goin on is a D.I.Y. Wardrobe I built just this last weekend, I moved 2 little girls from my previously, significantly smaller, D.I.Y. Grow Bin I made out of 2 Rubbermaid Bins. Anyway, here's a bit more info in a better organized way.

Lights (so far)
1 - 125w 6500k
1 - 125w 2700k
4 - 42w 2700k

I plan on adding a few more lights as long as my ventilation can take it. Also, I should note here, this is 12/12 from seed. No veg time except what naturally occurs (cannabis has a given 2-3 week veg time regardless of 12/12).

Ventilation
Exhaust
2 x Antec TwoCool 120mm (2 Speed)
High Setting = 1200RPM @ 42.6CFM
Low Setting = 600RPM @ 21.3CFM

Intake
2 x Antec TwoCool 140mm (2 Speed)
High Setting = 1200RPM @ 58.9CFM
Low Setting = 800RPM @ 33.6CFM

So far so good, temps HIGH @ ~88 and LOW @ ~75. As for smell, nothing yet, but plan on experimenting in a few ways such as an ONA Bucket and maybe just a carbon "pillow". I have PC fans so scrubbing is limited. Hopefully in the near future I can upgrade to a better system.

Media
Well, This IS the CoCo section... But as for brands, I started out with a brick of some "ok" coco, they seem to love it so im not TOO worried, but I also picked up a bag of Canna Coco for future attempts. I soaked the original stuff in 1/4 str. veg nutes before planting.

Nutes
For nutes I chose the Hesi Line, including TNT(Veg), CoCo(Bloom), and their PK 13/14. I sorta stuck to a schedule (they say full str. but I don't trust it), that included 1/4 for the first few weeks, then 1/2, then Full. I also have some GH CaliMagic to supplement the, well, Cal/Mg.

The Girls
Ok so now we have a general background and I'd like to introduce you to my girls thus far. I have 2 currently in the cab with plenty of other seeds to go. Right now the biggest and oldest girl is a Delicious Fruity Chronic Juice that is in her third week of flower. My second is a Heavyweight Green Ninja that is about 4 weeks old from sprout. I fear that the both may have been slightly stunted from the high temps in my previous bin. The past few weeks have been around 92 in that box. Seems like an ok temp to me, so hopefully they weren't too affected.

Ok, so now on to some most recent pics!

Here's a view of both my girls in their home.

This is the FCJ girl. in week 3 of flower.

Same girl, just a branch.

And here's my Ninja.

So yea, let me know what ya guys think! I'm here for help basically. Just would like to know I'm on the right track here! Any questions, comments, or concerns are all welcome!

Thanks for stoppin by,

Peace out, and stay frosty!

Here's a few more pics. Didn't realize there was a img limit! All of my FCJ. What would you guys say, normal growth for 3 weeks flower? My first real grow so im in uncharted territory right now!

Took a clipping from both plants, attempting some clonage. Will probably fail, but im hopeful! The fcj clone had very tiny buds so shes a monster crop haha. Perhaps snipping from the GN will give her a few more days veg time, we'll see. First grow, first clones.

-GP

Whoops, thought it would still show them, just not in albums. Anyway, hope that's better, and thanks for that haha, would've never figured that out lol.

Thanks brother! Im hoping this will work out to be a perpetual cab, right now ive just got two girls in there, plus a desk lamp in my old bin for the measly two clones I cut. Ill be poping another seed for a total of 5 girls at varying times. just so I don't get antsy with the other girls. Should keep me plenty busy, besides, the girl already says I spend too much time with them, I smell jealousy, but in reality I think its because she wants to participate haha. I don't trust anyone handling them yet tho!

Ive got a few options as far as what to pop next, either, Arjans Haze #3 (last fem seed), Big Bud(2x regular), or a pick from my random badf seed collection. Descisions haha. Only reason I can't choose is because I don't want more than 5 plants ever, just in case. That's my ”legal” limit.

I have less then a years experience but one thing ive learned is dont over do yourself. good idea keeping low plant numbers until you know what your working with. i think you will do great man. your plants look really healthy to me

Thanks man! So its only been a day, but my clones look good so far. The fcj has a bit of yellowing, but that might just be from the light being too close, this is my first cloning expeience and I they are didnt realise how fragile they are. Would be neat if they made it!

Hey guys, here's a few pics to keep the grow log going. It's not lights on yet and these are from 3 days ago, so we'll compare the growth we've had. I started my FCJ on a VERY LOW dose of PK13/14 for the last 3 days as well. Im starting my Green Ninja on 1/2 strength Hesi Coco today. Those are my flower nutes btw.

I did have one issue, i'm not sure if i have pics of it yet, but will make a point to grab those today. On my leaves on the top of the cola ive got small brown spots on some of them along with burnt tips. I'm thinking it has to do with cal. possibly conflicting with pk 13/14? Does that make any sense? I've been supplementing with Cal/Mg for some time now. The bottle said it wouldnt hurt to use it the entire grow in coco. Hope it didnt lie!!! haha. Here's an excerpt i found on another forum. Seems like my answer lies in here, it has pics that look pretty similar to whats going on:

Calcium (Ca) -Macro Nutrient and an Immobile element.

Calcium is another important element that helps the plants cell walls, cell division in making the plants stems, stalks, branches stronger, as well as contributing to root growth, mostly the newer root hairs, Calcium also helps enhancing the uptake of K in the the plants roots. Calcium moves really slow within the plant and tends to concentrate in roots and older growth.

When plants exhibit a Calcium deficiency the younger leaves are the first to show it as well as older leaves. The Leaf tips will die back, the tips may curl, and growth of the plant is stunted. The plant can show a weakness in the stems and branches, as well as a under developed root system that can lead to bacteria problems with roots dieing off. Having slow plant transpiration rates can aggravate the uptake of calcium. Make sure your soil isn’t very acidic, for calcium gets harder to be absorbed through acidic soils, Which leads to having a plant that is deficient in Calcium. The leaf tips, edges and new growth will or may turn a yellow/brown colour that happen in spots and often surrounded by a sharp brown outlined edge and then the leaf tips die back. If too much calcium is given at an early stage of growth it can stunt the growth of your plants. Having to much of calcium will also flocculate when a concentrated form is combined with potassium. The parts affected by a calcium deficiency are the roots. Stem or petiole, young or old leaves.

Too much Calcium will lead to other micronutrient deficiencies. Calcium fixation is caused by many types of mediums such as: clay soils, unbuffered coco and humus. The lime tends to bond to these soils very easily. The stems of the plant will not be able to hold the plant up and will exhibit a white brown in between the veins of the leaves when having too much calcium. Also having to much potassium and or nitrogen will cause a calcium lockout.

Problems with Calcium being locked out by PH troubles

Very acidic soils with excessive potassium, dry and or wet soil. Lack of calcium in the soil may cause too acidic soil. This may cause to Mg or Iron deficiency or very slow stunted growth

Soil

Calcium gets locked out of soil growing at ph levels of 2.0- 6.4
Calcium is absorbed best in soil at a ph level of 6.5-9.1 (Wouldn’t recommend having a ph of over 7.0 in soil) anything out of the ranges listed will contribute to a
Calcium Deficiency.

Hydro and Soil less Mediums

Calcium gets locked out of Hydro and Soil less Mediums at ph levels of 2.0- 5.3
Calcium is absorbed best in Hydro and Soil less Mediums at ph levels of 5.4-5.8 (Wouldn’t recommend having a ph over 6.5 in hydro and soil less mediums.) Best range for hydro and soil less mediums is 5.0 to 6.0. Anything out of the ranges listed will contribute to a Calcium Deficiency.

Solution to fixing a Calcium deficiency
To fix a calcium deficiency you can treat by foliar feeding with one teaspoon of dolomite lime or Garden lime per quart of water, Or Any Chemical/Organic nutrients that have Calcium in them will fix a Calcium deficiency. (Only mixing at ½ strength when using chemical nutrients or it will cause nutrient burn!)
Or you can take crushed up dolomite lime or garden lime in a gallon of water and water it in the soil. 1 to 2 teaspoons per gallon of water, which will be slow acting. Garden Gypsum, which is medium absorption. Limestone, which is medium absorption, Rock Phosphate and Animal wastes which are both medium/slow absorption. Note: Caution when using gypsum to an already acid soil (pH that is less than 5.5) can have a very bad effect on different types of plants by effecting the absorption of soil aluminum, which is poison to plant roots.

Now if you added to much chemical nutrients and or organics, (which is hard to burn your plants when using organics) you need to flush the soil with plain water. You need to use 2 times as much water as the size of the pot, for example: If you have a 5 gallon pot and need to flush it, you need to use 10 gallons of water to rinse out the soil good enough to get rid of excessive nutrients.

Pictures 1-2 shows calcium deficiencies. First one shows late, 2nd one shows early development.

Hope someone can help me out on this one! You cant see it in the pics I uploaded, but like i said ill grab some in a bit! Thanks for any input!

Peace out and stay frosty!

Pics look good, I would keep doing what you're doing maybe just give em some plain water if its showing a little burn.

.

Ok so here's some pics of her TODAY, as of a few minutes ago. The previous post was 3 days ago. Not HUGE growth, but growth nonetheless! And i'm only half way through flower!

And here's some pics of the worst leaf that seems affected by my cal(?) problem. Let me know what ya think! You can also see spots on other leaves.

Let me know if i'm on the right track. I'm also thinking the small dose of PK 13/14 affected her somehow. Should I not mix them all together? Hesi Coco, GH CaliMagic, and Hesi Pk 13/14.

Well, my problem persists. Its gotten only a bit worse, any advice on this would be awesome. I kind flushed her with a gallon of water (2gal smart pot), and then I skipped a feeding, followed by a gallon of her normal str nutes(took pk 13/14 out til I figure this out).

Hey all, been a few weeks since i posted. Thought id drop by and post a few pics. I guess i been ashamed of my necrosis from a severe cal issue. Im a noob, so this was expected, although i didnt kno itd go so far! It seems to have stunted growth a bit further, but so far, she's looking good, considering all the torture she's been through! All in all, she's a success in my book so far! Have been foliar feeding with a 5% calcium supplement, so im hoping she's recovered. I've noticed growth, but its been kinda slow. Yesterday marked 7 weeks flower. Hoping for about a 1/4 oz.

ive found that most coco nutes still need added cal for most of the strains ive run lately. thats probably what it is. i hate having to buy a bunch of additives just to make the base nutes work lol

Well, all, its almost that time for me to pop my harvest cherry! I know, its been an exciting ride right?.... anyway, today marks week nine flower and day 7 of her flush. Her flush consists of ph'd RO water with a tiny bit of calcium. dont know why i added cal, just did. tomorrow begins her final flush of straight ph'd RO water in hopes of her drawing the remaining nutes out of her. I have a few pics of what she's lookin like at the moment, she looks tom me to be ready, although im a noob and could be wrong. either way, she's dying and weather its from me or nature she's comin down this weekend. My harvest plan is a bit in the air, i believe im going to chop her down and let her hang dry whole and wait to trim til dry. by hten i should have trim ready to make hash and buds ready to cure and smoke after a few weeks. My only concern is RH. Right now its exceeding 70% due to this strange humid weather we're having, it should go away hopefully by this weekend! But i could figure it out im sure, it is my harvest at stake! only one tiny plant but leave me alone!

My macro skills aren't fantastic and i have a shitty cam at best for it, just stuck a loupe up to the lens, any blurriness is due to my very unstable hands haha.

Let me know what you guys think, thanks!

12 Hours and Counting

12 Hours and Counting

Hey all! Like a child on Christmas Eve is the best feeling i can describe! I just hope im not wrong about my Christmas "Date". What Im saying is it's the night before chopping! I believe... Regardless, i'm chopping in the morning. This is my first girl, a freebie Fruity Chronic Juice, as you would know if you read the thread haha, Ive had some problems and have hopefully learned from them. She's experienced a major cal deficiency due to my lack of exp. and using coco, but recovered as nicely as she could, the necrosis never went away, but that was expected. It may or may not have stunted her, i'm not exactly sure, nothing to compare to except a completely different strain thats sativa dominant and dwarfs her.

Anyway, she's gotten a pretty thorough flush for just under two weeks, started on Week 7 flower and the 30th marks Week 10. Gave her a full gallon flush today at lights on. I'm hoping i score at least a half oz dry, but we shall see. Im proud of her as my first girl, she may not be the greatest, but she's been a fantastic learning experience and is probably the biggest milestone in any growers journey. I appreciate all who have helped, any lurkers that just lurked, and look forward to the long, exciting, fun road ahead.

Thanks yall! I included a few pics for my own log, but also for any input! Again, if anyone thinks she's not ready, please, let me know, it probably wont change a thing, im chopping tomorrow morning, just too excited! if she aint ready, i probably wont know until after a few grows anyway haha. I've examined the trichs under 100x and for the most part theyre clear. Id say 50% clear, 40% cloudy, 10% amber. seems like a decent ratio. I have a few pics, shitty cam, and like i said, just stuck a loupe up to it haha.

Well Done!

Well Done!

Im proud of her as my first girl, she may not be the greatest, but she's been a fantastic learning experience and is probably the biggest milestone in any growers journey.

I know exactly what you mean, I still remember my first grow (Northern Lights). People can read all the info and theory there is - and it seriously helps - but it's experience that is really needed.

You did very well, honestly, and I think you will only improve.

Well done :good:

Thanks a lot raed! ive learned all I know from the guys here and over at riu. Im very excited about my harvest, I have her hanging upside down in my closet, fully intact minus roots. I wanted to hang her right side up, but couldnt figure it out with what I had. I also wanted to swish her around in some water prior to hanging in order to remove some dirt and debris but decided not to due to the stupid humidity weve been having. Will let her hang out til next weekend when ill trim her up, jar her up and continue the cure. Ill also test her for the first time, and make some bho with her trim and bottom popcorn. Very excited for the for the final weight, if I had to guess, id say an Oz on the high side, and thats what im shooting for, but would be significantly happy with just a half. I really hope I did alright and hope shes a decent smoke, I treated her with all the love and care I could, thus my nick lol, I hope she returns the favor. But, in the event I truly fucked up, theres always hash!

Thanks again all!

Post-Harvest Update

Post-Harvest Update

Hey all! Well, my first harvest has been officially accomplished! My very first girl is now curing in jars after about 10 days hanging whole. I'm sure I didn't accomplish everything exactly correct, but I'm very proud of my efforts and end results. I managed to yield ~37g of dried bud minus the ~10g of bud affected by early stages of mold which i used to make some QWET, which yielded about 1.5g of some decent oil! I'll be running the remains thru a Butane Extractor to make some BHO this weekend, we'll see how that comes out! Huge fan of the oil now that I've smoked some!

So, to sum up, my first grow, first harvest, first extraction! I'm fairly happy with my results and plan on only improving! My small space is obviously very limited, but there will be expansion in the future, as my nick indicates, i am passionate about the field I have decided to enter, I may be relatively new to it, but I'm looking forward to a life that I can feel proud about. I dont see this as "growing pot", i see it as improving my awareness and connecting with the world around us. I'm not just a cultivator of cannabis, i'm a seed myself, planted in the realm of the living and growing with the same purpose as the rest of life around us, to co-exist and connect with everything around me, to contribute to the bigger picture, to brush my stroke on the great canvas of the unknown and to finally discover what the meaning of it all is... :artist: = :ying:

Thanks for joining me on this journey, and thank you for guiding me with all the knowledge that is this and other forums. We are the hope for mankind, weather they know it or not! I'll be here for a while and can't wait to get to know all of you better, while at the same time getting to know the wonderful life-forms we raise everyday!

I'll continue using this thread as a learning experience and a reference to look back upon, so i'll continue to post pics and update my grows, it IS a perpetual garden so I'll always have a lady or two or three growin' up together.

Alright, enough non-sense, let me introduce you to my new girls and update ya on my oldest! Ok, the smallest one is my newest seedling, a cheapo I bought to continue my trials, she's a Arjan's Haze #3 (Fem) and im looking forward to her smoke! The second biggest is my Green Ninja clone i snipped from her mom the oldest girl that is currently in week 7 and doin alright. She's got some red stem goin on and i'm not too sure what the deal is, most of the branches with buds are drooping, not sure if its from weight or from weak branches! Part of me leans towards the latter, but maybe someone could shed some light! I got some samples of nutes from my local hydro guy that ive been experimenting with on her, they are all Humboldt County's Own Brand and are Gravity, Snow Storm Ultra, and Crystal Burst. They say use in conjunction with each other so i have been. Noticed a bit of burn so I'm using them more sparingly. I'm still feeding the Oldest Girl with my remaining Hesi Nutrients, but am quickly running out and have made the swith to Lucas Fomula for the rest of my ladies, mostly because i have to order Hesi online... The GN is a mostly sativa strain so she'll be going for a few more weeks.

Alright ya'll, thats all i can think of right now, pretty stoned (of my own stash finally!) so im sure ill remember, thanks again for everyones contributions!

Peace, One Love, and Stay Frosty!
