You can get IP cameras starting at $100. That isn't a bad price for 4 cameras and a monitor tho.

Security is my number one concern, tied along with growroom safety.

Elbows and elbows of the highest quality chronic will do you no good if you're in prison or if your house burns down (which then would probably lead to prison also).

I have one IP camera. An Axis M1011. I'm not really that happy with it because the email functionality is glitchy. It took forever to get it configured correctly and after a few months it started having a giant lag between the time the alarm was triggered and when I received the email. The interface is top notch though, if they would just fix the email issue. I'll probably look into another Axis Communications product higher up. I would like better night time resolution than this model allows.

AK51 _ya that one I grabbed you can check on your iphone app , , and its in real time ....great night vision also,...and .it does email notifcation.

I just like being able to pick up phone and check it when I get that feeling,....

Superman-- yah that would be sick!, I would like the option of fucking with bible thumpers, police and anyone who dared to step on to my stoop.... lol

Right now my camera is inside a window looking out. Active IR illumination attached directly to it would reflect off of the glass and wash out the image. I'd like a camera that has good night time performance without IR illumination.

When it worked correctly mine was great. I could walk through the zone I had selected and I would usually receive the email with pictures on my phone less than a minute later.

Im just curious as to what happens if your power is lost?
You lose the internet and cameras ?

Yes.

Unless you put your modem, router and the cameras on a UPS backup.

Ideal situation is probably using a POE injector to power the cameras and having the injector on the UPS with your modem and router, if they're IP cameras that is.

They work good until you don't notice the alarm on your phone go off because it's on vibrate, or you are asleep. I learned this one the hard way.

Do you have a recommendation for a better security product? A fully wired alarm system is the only thing I can think of that would compensate for sleeping. Hardening any possible entry points would be another I suppose.

I will also say my system, was a 4 camera Swann with DVR that links to the internet. The picture quality is pretty shitty, if you can upgrade the cameras, I would recommend it, though they aren't cheap.

I think a combination of things is the best. I now have a fully wired alarm system, so if there is an alarm the company will call me, and if I don't pick up, they will call the next person on my contact list. I also have the camera set up, so if I get that call, I can confirm through the camera if someone is there or not.

Hardening entry points is a great idea, the more noise anyone has to make breaking in, the less likely they are to do it (unless you have no neighbors). Unfortunately, most of us can't put bars on our windows without drawing unwanted attention.
