Hi,

I am just starting out with my first batch of soil. Was wondering if anyone could comment, give any thoughts.. help etc. it would be appreciated. I'm using a slightly modified base of LC mix #2. Was wondering if anyone can see anything wrong with the measurements or contents.. I sourced some fresh local EWC so I bumped up the % of EWC.. and threw in a bit of glacial rock dust. ok here goes.

9 parts Pro Mix BX (perlite is added to this already)
3.5 parts perlite
5 parts earthworm castings (local/fresh)

a 'part' was 2.25 quarts.

1 1/3 cup dolo lime
1/3 cup glacial rock dust

If I am correct.. this can be used without cooking for cuttings/seedlings?

I also am trying to modify the Just Add Water mix (think it was #1) to avoid at minimum the blood meal, and ideally the bone meal as well.... I know I am missing a substitute for the bonemeal .. would rock phosphate work? I'm under the impression it doesn't play nicely with the lime...? What I have on hand is the following.

Fresh local EWC, glacial rock dust, alfalfa meal, kelp meal, greensand... and some liquid karma.

anyone have suggestions for additional amendments? The amounts to use per cubic foot?

I have been reading soil threads for weeks now, and want to get the cooking started asap. There is so much information out there, it would be a shame to screw it up from the beginning. :)

thanks in advance for any help!

Fish Bone meal or high P bat guano in place of plain bone meal...

Alfalfa, bat or seabird guano, or fish meal can sub for blood meal..

You could also use nettle, yarrow, and comfrey as sources for main NPK additions.

I'd back off the lime a bit and fill in place of with oyster shell flour and gypsum...

I personally like using a bit of blood meal though...

Hey man I just posted up a mix on Soursmokers "what do you think" thread. Contains everything you listed if you swap rock dust for SRP. The mix I listed is not water only. SRP is not a good sub for bone meal. It helps with the Ca to Mg ratio...I also feel like it makes the overall soil hotter than if it is not used.
Supposedly it keep N from turning into ammonia and being lost to the air. I started a thread about this and didn't get a single response. I read about it from the Rev at Skunk mag. IME it seems to be true.
