Double Pollinating?

A

Alfred

Hello all,

Does anyone know if double pollinating, pollenating once then waiting a couple of days/ a week and then pollinating again, is worthwhile?
I have pollenated a small plant once but only half of the pistils look like they turned brown, i wanted to get a better number of seeds, so i thought pollinating again would be a good idea?

Any help is appreciated. :) :thank you:

Not sure if it helps or not but I did it when I made my auto pineapple express seeds... Better safe than sorry...
I figure if there's new pistils popping up then that means the plant is still looking for more pollen
I'm sure someone more experienced will chime in soon

Thanks.

I am only asking because i don't have much pollen and i don't want to waste it. :)

I'm no breeder, but if you used the bag method, where you put some pollen in a bag, slip the bag over the branch you want to pollinate, put an elastic band on to close up the top of the bag, then shake it all round to get the pollen on, then save the bag of pollen and do it again in a few days to the same or a different branch until there wasn't much pollen left in the bag it might be a good way to get the most pollen onto pistils. Pollen and stamens also have ways to move the pollen to where it needs to go, sort of the way sperm swim, but a different mode of action, so its gonna find its way to where it needs to go. Annual plant's number one goal is to produce as many seeds as it can, so just spread the pollen around the best u can and you should have lots of seeds. And I hope you have better genetics than those that produced what's in your avatar!!

i'd save some, but then again 2 rounds made 200 seeds last time, maybe cut the pollen with dry cornstarch to make it go further?

I think the most important thing to get more seeds is pollinating at the right time. I find that pollinating after 4 weeks of 12/12 works best for me. Most things I've read say pollinate after 3 weeks but I think 4 is better. If I really want to make sure I get seeds I pollinate the same buds twice to make sure I get seeds, once at 3 weeks and again at 4 weeks. Takes around 4 weeks for the seeds to mature after pollinating.

If you are contemplating doing two seed dustings I would just wait until more hairs are there then do it. The later you pollinate ( after 4 weeks ) the better off you will be as your seeds will be on the outer of the buds and once dried you can almost shake the seeds out from the outer bud and have a ton of seed free inner bud to enjoy.

I would wait until week four and do one using a paint brush or art brush or makeup brush and dab the hairs that you want to be seeded versus dumping, bagging etc.

Yup.

Just finished a 10 day dusting with a thunk girl @6 weeks and two chosen sensi star x nycd boy clones in the same box.

Clean up afterwords top to bottom, left to right. So messy.

The only way to be sure to get the seeds I want.

Works for me, anyway.
