I use a bubble cloner and transplant when roots have side shoots sprouting. They look like fish bones when they are ready. I've found if I let them get too long they are a pain to get in the medium (soil for me).
Second Lobster, if you wait too long you also get root bound issues. I have transplanted clones out of cubes as soon as one single root has poked out, and I am sure they were not as developed as some of the fishbone roots I have seen in my aero cloner...
Absolutely. I think the transition is easiest with fully rooted, but shorter roots, around an inch or so. I am also experimenting with trimming the longer ones and it may have sped up the transition.
Mountain High I have only tried it this last round and it seemed to me to cause them to hit the ground running. What i did was let the longest roots in the cloner get to about 3-4 inches, average length around 2 inches, then trim down all the roots that were longer than 2 inches, down to 2. Also cut off the tips of some of the 2 inchers. Its could not be less scientific at this point, but i can say for sure that it did not slow them down or stress them. Instead it seemed that they may have started popping out the sides of my smart pots a day or so earlier. Now that I think it may have helped, next time i'll do some side by sides with the same strain and same size clones, cause really when in a haze of dank ass world class cannabis genetics, i may just be trippin'. No pics, but maybe next time
