I haven't been growing long but i'm interested in adding a few more tents and working out clones & mothers and a strain for the next harvests.

Currently growing in a DR120 tent in soil, i'm thinking of building my own DIY dripper system for the flower tent and moving onto coco to get better results while working out which variety's to keep as mothers.

My questions are:
1) If my next op is to find a keeper mum should I veg for less and at a max height of 12"? Herd growth rate on drippers with multiple feeds a day has a great growth rate so i'm not looking for huge plants due to some height restriction...

2) Should I LST? Notice in a past some side nodes on plants from seed are really weak so would LST bulk them up for a better chance for clones?

3) Been reading into bonsai mums so probably invest in a DP90 first and a T5 light. So if i'm thinking right i'll go by this method:

>start off with 10 seeds
>10 are forced into bloom at max 12" tall
>Take 2/4 cuttings from each plant that is female
> Each clone that survives & healthy is trained into bonsai
> When harvest comes along note which ones stand out then cure to pick the best mother.

Does that sound right? Has anyone got any good links for mothers & clones apart from the bonsai archive? Just trying to read up as much as I can.
Very excited for the future and this hobby.

Thank!

I'm going to work your questions backwards.

This could work, this is not the method I would suggest.

I would pop the ten beans and plant them. Top them several times to keep them shorter and bushier. Label each plant, strain name 1, strain name 2, etc. Wait the 7-14 days for your cuts to root and transfer successfully. Put the 10 plants into flower. Sex appropriately. Discard all the plants you don't want. Finish the plants, cure the buds appropriately, and then choose your keeper mom or moms.

2) Should I LST? Notice in a past some side nodes on plants from seed are really weak so would LST bulk them up for a better chance for clones?

Plants from seed shouldn't be any weaker than plants from clone. At least I've never found that to be the case. Strong lights, a good amount of air movement, and some selective pruning you should have some awesome plants.

That question is hard to answer without knowing how much flowering space. For the most part I would not worry about height too much. You can top, supercrop, and otherwise correct height problems.

I bend and don't top. I used to top, and I still top things like garden veggies, but stress usually speeds them up. I like a nice slow growth in my girls, so I bend vs. top. I get the same results doing either, so hopefully bending is less stressful.
