So which is your favourite hydro medium? and why?
Recently i've been turned on to Mapito, but it seems the newer batches are not as good as before??

Been using Sure to Grow cubes and loose fill for 2 years. They are a little cheaper than rockwool and no need for soaking. They do seem to hold water longer than rockwool.

I'm not sure what is going on with the bud here in BC but from what I can see and smoke it's pretty BAD!! Now seeing as though I know lots of places to get bud and all different types of bud you would think that there would be at least one standing up against the rest and it is NOT... They all seem to be the same crap... Nothing really better then the other. I can pick up 4 or 5 different types of bud from any club in town and not really see any difference between them except one might make me sleepier ..Not to mention they are all growing CRAP strains of fluffy shit WTF is that?? FUCK, FUCK, FUCK where has all the good bud gone? So as far as the growing medium is concerned whatever they are using STOP and go back to what you used to use LOL headband 707 imvho

IMO if i were to go flood and drain i would use a combination of coco and rockwool and marbles thing i like about this stuff is they retain moisture as well as allow lots of air into the root system which allows more temp control down in the root system

For flood & drain.

hydroton or no medium at all (supported via neoprene or foam "collar")

I'll second this.

Clay pebbles are a bitch, but I still prefer them over anything else for F&D. No medium is what I try to go for with dwc for sure, I can see where it would also be great for F&D. :D

Yes, the pebbles float. No, they don't float out of the net baskets (unless your levels are too high) and once they're rooted, they stay put.

Stay Safe! :blowbubbles:

Scoria AKA Lava Rock AKA something else

and a bell siphon

and a 300mm deep grow bed.

Plenty of room for aerobic zones, fast flood/drain cycles possible with a constant pump flow 24/7.

All I know is the old school 4" rookwool cubes on big tables packed a little tight 1-4 per sq/ft. Flower em early and yields are crazy. But that was the early the 90's... little risky with the high counts too (disclaimer: I never did that tho, just someone I knew did)

So with all the new media types avail I hope people explain their systems.

I used to do just what you're describing with the cubes.. and yes, aside from the high plant count, you have to throw away a shit ton of cubes every 60 days and that is a major security risk. (at least it was for me, it got a friend of mine busted)
